How do you get the engines into engine driver to start with?
If you mean the server roster... Then it depends on what WiThrottle or DCC-EX Native server you are using. JMRI, EX-CommandStation, WiFiTrax, LNWi, etc. They all require a different approach.
@peterakers9071 OK thanks 👍
I’m going to give it a try… I bought 2 pairs identical locomotives … 2 sd70ace and 2 -4400. N scale hopefully I will have the same patience as you
Looking forward to your progress Peter
@@KPKOREN This is already available in the Beta version on the Play Store. Just go to the Engine Driver page in the Play Store and sign up for beta releases
@@peterakers9071Thanks. I think I’m a Beta tester from years ago. I’ll give it a download soon. Thanks for your hard work.
I use this and love it. we need more loco sound lol!
@@androsborsato you can load your own sounds
Nice work 👏
I've done one these builds and really like it! However, I did go with the additional 7 buttons, and for some reason they do not work on any "FUNCTION_x" Commands, But all work with options like "POWER_TOGGLE" It's really throwing me for a loop
Maravilhosa

Very interesting Peter. Will there be a way to access functions higher than 8? Did you consider making the highest brake setting an emergency stop?
The function button area is a scroll region. You can access all 32 functions by scrolling. No, perhaps later, but you can (and always have been able to) set a toolbar button as a true eStop.
Very interesting Peter. I would love to try this out sometime soon, but a bit busy with the WiTcontroller builds ATM.
That's pretty cool!
I have 2 class A climax locomotives
Outstanding. Many thanks.
Was the consist function settings tab ever released?
Yes. A long time ago now.
@@peterakers9071 Very interesting feature! Thanks alot for the effort gone into this. Makes consisiting alot easier. Please do not remove this feature 😁
👍
Nice. So turn off the speed table before doing this process? Thx
You can use the speed table to speed match if you wish, but a) you then need to go through the matching process 28 times, and b) you can't use the speed matching page in EX-Toolbox. So if you wish to use the speed matching page in EX-Toolbox and use the process in this video, then yes, you need to turn off the speed table first.
Hello Peter, the function key only triggers a light for the time it is pressed. If I let go of the button, the light also goes out. Why is that?
It depends on what Command Station you are using and how you setup the roster entry. Contact me via email and I will see if help akersp62@gmail.com
Can you refine the function of the throttle press/click? I notice you can add 7 buttons...I was going to send questions via discord but it just gives me a "there are no text channels" error 🤔
I don't know what you mean by 'refine'. Contact me on Discord preferably discord.gg/xAp488TB P.S. if you mean 'define the encoder push button'... then yes. I can be set to activate any command. (Same as all the other buttons.)
@@peterakers9071 yes sorry, typo, I meant ‘redefine.’ Thanks for taking the time to reply Peter. If you want edit out your email above please go ahead I’ve made a note. Thanks again.
Brilliant! 😃
Hi Peter .I have watched most of your videos, but i cannot find settings for turnouts. I have 21 turnouts on my layout but when after I have connected number 20 in the operating screen it only shows up to number 18 so can you please let me know how to show all my turnouts . Thanks, John Monk, Central Gippsland.
The is no limit to the number of points/turnouts that ED will show. If they are not appearing, then there is something different about the ones that aren't showing. By default ED will not show points/turnouts that don't have a user name. That can be changed in the preferences.
Thanks for the video. So only the android engine driver app will allow you to run a dc engine on what was the program track? Not the IOS WI throttle app?
The WiThrottle iOS app can run DC locos exactly the same way, but it it doesn't natively have the ability to switch the track to DC. That is not necessarily a problem, as you can set the track as DC in your CS config, or you can create routes/automations that will allow you to switch the track to DC. Either way.. yes it is possible, just little a bit more work to setup.
Hi Peter, have a question, that a few user groups haven't been able to answer... I have a full size control stand, which i am taking the outputs of all the switches, variable resistors... and so on, reading into an arduino Mega, then into Python. From there I can generate and send MQTT to JMRI, and I can see it fine. Where I am lost, I don't know how to bridge the gap between JMRI MQTT to JMRI DCC++/EX and out to my locomotive. The path looks like this: Control Stand Throttle-->Arduino Mega-->Python-->Mosquitto-->JMRI MQTT--> xxxxxxx ->DCC++/EX--> Promini TX--> Promini RX-->To Locomotive. I can't figure out the xxxxx part. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, greatly appreciated!
sorry, but I have no knowledge of MQTT. If you want to talk to JMRI then the WiThrottle protocol is more than sufficient, and easy enough to do what you want with an ESP32 or similar. If you just want to talk to the EX-CS, the it is easy to do something similar with either the WiThrottle or native protocols. Contact me via email akersp62@gmail.com and we can discuss.
Less is more outstanding
Season tickets are available 🤣 Seriously though; that's a fun little mini layout; nicely finished! 👍
Beautiful 🤩 great mini layout 👍👏
That is so much like my life.
Al vídeo you do on the Program Track (B output)? That's what I think I understand, but if you are in the main Track? Can you do all this in the same way? Thanks
You can write CVs on the MAIN, but cannot read them.
Great vid. Quick and to the point vid. Was trying to get the DC feature running, some how I fumbled my way into figuring it out. The DCC EX website is packed with info. However the Track manager section throws a ton of jargon at you, assuming you know what they are referring too. I was worried I did not do it right, Your vid confirmed I am not the idiot I thought I was. I am still a idiot🤣, But not as big of a idiot I thought I was. Many thanks👍
Thanks for an informative video on DCC-EX and Engine Driver. As a novice, I have a question: Is there a way to download JMRI engine rosters into a cell phone so that Engine Driver can use them which would use the same labeled function keys (specific to each engine) that I have already setup in JMRI? If I use Engine Driver & JMRI Wi-Throttle I have them ... but with DCC-EX direct seems I don't. All the best ...
Yes, there is a script in JMRI that will allow you to extract the roster for loading into the EX-CommandStation
Is it possible to get the print files for the Garratt?
I finally got a chance to ask the owner /designer. He said they needed more work, but he will eventually release the designs.
super 👍
Can’t have too many steam engines running. I used to work at The Great Train Store outside Atlanta and loved watching our G scale trains run around the walls and outside. The sound these had was really good.
Hi Peter. Thank you for this app. FYI, I'm getting an error message when I try to run Engine Driver: Something went wrong with Engine Driver. Engine Driver closed because this app has a bug. Try updating this app after its developer provides a fix for this error. Thank you.
hi, can you contact me on akersp62@gmail.com and i'll see if we can work it out.
É possível juntar mais de duas locomotivas?
Yes, there is no limit to the number of Locomotives you can have in a consist.
Qual o procedimento para juntar mais de duas locomotivas?
@@alexandre3680 select the first loco. Then select the second locomotive pressing the same button. It will ask for the facing for that locomotive {forward or backwards), then press the back button to return to the Throttle screen. Repeat that to add as many Locomotives as you want.
Excellent! Bluetooth is much more reliable!
Thank you for the information.
Peter, Do you have a video on how to change the labels for the functions? The local club is interested in Engine driver and would love to know.
Hi, I don't have a video for it. Generally the labels are set up for each loco in JMRI roster. ED then just grabs them when you select the loco from the roster. That way they change depending on the specifics of each decoder/loco. You can change the 'default' labels in ED, but that means you will have the same labels for all locos. It is really only intended for when you don't or cannot have a roster entry to choose. (DCC-EX also supports having a roster with individual labels for each function for each loco.)
@@peterakers9071 Thanks Peter
Awesome!
Thank you for this video and app!!! I hope this isn’t a repeat comment but my other comment does not seem to be showing up. Is there a way to select “full screen” in the WEB portion of this? I am going to use your software to run panels (Kindle Fire HD 8/10) in front of each yard. It will run the turnouts by touch screen. I would like to ONLY have the panel screen and no other buttons. I would also like to lock the scroll and and zoom so the yard master doesn’t move the screen off the yard he is on. Thank you so much!
Currently you can't go full screen in the Web view. If you are ONLY using the table for using turnouts/points, then you are better off opening the panel in a browser (Chrome, etc.) rather than ED. Locking the scroll and zoom may be difficult in ED as all it is doing is showing a web page in a browser embedded in a window inside an ED window. ED doesn't have much control of the browser at that point. If you want to discuss further contact me directly: akersp62@gmail.com
Nice work guys.
Are those just off the shelf bridges placed upside-down in the background?
Yes
Hi Peter, great layout! I am having trouble finding good N scale boats/ships. I would like a trawler and a small tanker. Did you scratch build the white ship that is close to the one end of the layout?
Hi, I kit bashed a model of a costal oil/fuel tanker by adding the open holds and moving the mast. I can't remember the name of it, but will hunt around.
This is the kit. It is the wrong scale, but it doesn't look out of place www.hobbysta.eu/chematic-022/shell-welder-coastal-tanker
@@peterakers9071 thanks Peter! Mucha appreciate! I had already decided that for ships I can move a little out of scall to get something good. 1:130 I think is in the realms of fitting in. Thanks for the assist. So much appreciated!
Peter I see your throttles have descriptions on the function keys. Mine only shows Horn bell and lights, yet the decoder has many more sounds. What am I missing please?
The function button descriptions / labels for individual locos come from the roster in either JMRI or the DCC-EX EX-CommandStation. To get them you need to setup the roster. If you just to just change the labels for all locos, use the menu item 'default functions' in Engine Driver
The creep speed on these engines is phenomenal….Mine did a 36’ run in a little over 2 hours…
Hello Peter, let me say something important, the CV programming system is great, but I noticed an error in the function corresponding to the light and the bell because it activates but when deactivated it does not work, I tested it with the previous version to confirm the error. other than that congratulations on your app.
hi, can you contact me on discord and help me work though the problem? discord.gg/6rcFRqMg my id there is "flash62au (Peter A)"

@@peterakers9071 Thanks Peter, I'll wait, I was just missing this CV programming option in the engine driver. there is an app in the play store called RTdrive that does CV programming but it's horrible to control in addition to having a big delay. Some time ago I suggested this function to the engine developer to the creator and I didn't know he was already developing it. I thank you and especially the developer for the " great app " he created. congrats developer friend.
You were probably talking to M Steve Todd. I am one of the other developers of Engine Driver.

I am using DCC++ EX and engine driver app. How to make roster in engine driver app? Also how to make F2 (Horn) function latching ?
Hi, you can't make 'rosters' in Engine Driver. Engine Driver only shows the roster provided by the wiThrottle server. Engine Driver remembers the recent locos you have acquired (default is last 10) which can be used as a sort-of roster. However, You can add a roster to the DCC-EX EX-CommandStation, which Engine Driver can then present. The Instructions are here: dcc-ex.com/ex-rail/editing.html
