The epitome of the mad clown”our business is rejoicing.” I always associate Shostakovich with Psalm 137. The bitter counterpoint with the harp is so poignant. The agonized prayer of one who does not believe in God, and yet cries out “why” This is superior to the first concerto and is definitely one of Shostakovich’s greatest. Fabulous playing! Hats off!

A brilliant performance of one of DSCH's greatest works. I think of it as Rimsky-Korsakov starving to death during the WW-2 siege of Leningrad.

You need to post more. Lucky pianist to be accompanying you. I have heard this a million times. Never more sweetly played. That is the wrong adjective. Contemplative, yearning, mourning, resolution, never loosing the pulse, everything Faure has to say!
