2017 Grand cherokee Radio Uconnect 8.4 bubbles in screen fixed
This video will show the process of fixing the bubbles that formed in the Uconnect 8.4 used in Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler products years 2017-2019. I did it after researching on the forums online. Be advised I do not do this professionally and if you are doing it is at your own risk, I did it as a DIY and to help others having the same issue as myself. The videos were made 2 weeks ago I wanted to make sure it worked for sometime before posting the video. Always remember to be gentle with the screen and digitizer those are very deliciated parts. Also make sure you have your radio Code handy just in case before dismantling your radio, your car should recognized it once you put back your radio automatically but there is always the possibility of that not happening. If anyone has more experience in this process feel free to comment for better ways to fix this problem and to help everyone out. Thank you.

2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia oil change
Переглядів 9 тис.4 роки тому
This video is to show the basic tools to change your oil. I’m not going to put the whole process because is pretty much like changing the oil in other cars just a very specific oil is required to do so. Tools needed 12mm socket or wrench, pennzoil 0w-30 platinum EURO LX6 qts (it takes 5.5 qts) Mopar Oil filter MO-339 and a T-30 to remove belly pan.
Hey thanks for this! I just bought a used giulia and I was trying to find a dipstick to see what shape the oil is in haha. My car says the scheduled maintenance is expired. If I change the oil, will I still have to do all that stuff with the computer or can I just keep track of the miles?
Hey there so you reset it with the brake pedal. The way it works is simple you press your start button once without starting the car just in the accessories mode. Then press the brake pedal firmly 5 times fully down on the fifth press leave press for about 10 seconds that should reset it. Turn it back off and turn the engine on check for the reset light to be gone.
@@Indigo_travels_usa oh wow ok thanks. I don’t think there’s a light on though. When you go in to the maintenance menu, it just says scheduled maintenance expired. Is this the same thing?
It should be fine mine was. That’s just another way to deal people to the dealership
Decent information but you didn't show you doing anything
As long as it helps. I don’t do DIYs and honestly I didn’t know if it was going to work I did say everything you need to do that’s what made it such a long video. I provided basic information on what I did and so far it seems to have worked for others. There are a million videos out there on how to remove the radio and such if that’s what you’re saying. If you take the time to listen you’ll probably be able to do it as well. Cheers
Is possible tested without the car?
No you need to have it connected to the car because of the security system
Great thanks!
Did you video the string procedure? Is the glue electrically conductive? Great job.
i used a fishing string because it is more difficult to break. I don't think the glue has anything to do with the electrical system is just there to isolate the digitizer from the screen itself and act as a heat barrier.
@@Indigo_travels_usa thank you for your reply. I know they have special tungsten or titanium filaments that the smart phone mechanics use to separate glass in screen replacement. I thought that’s how it came about . Your idea beats the plastic separator tools, hands down. I didn’t think the “glue “ was conductive in this case because I know of the heat barrier, but had to ask. Do you have any knowledge of Subaru digitizer replacement? Respectfully
Will this work on a 2018 GC?
I did it on the 2019 limited but I guess Chrysler found out people were fixing the issue and at least on the 2019 limited you need to change the screen which is not bad but it puts you back about 350 bucks. So I'm not sure but I think maybe this process won't work
PHENOMENAL~!!!!!!!! IT WORKED!!!! FYI I used a plastic scraper and a bit of heat to get majority of glue off. Holy mother it works perfectly now! Thanks Man!!!!
Good man whatever you can input there that made it easier honestly I was going blind trying to figured out until I saw that it worked and posted it. I used alcohol because I was afraid to screw it up and I had no money for a new screen or digitizer. I just did my moms which is a 2019 limited and that is different you do have to change the screen I don’t know why Chrysler made it even more difficult. Glad it worked!!!
So my question is does the digitizer just lay over the LCD panel and you only used the tape to glue the metal frame to the radio ? So the gorilla tape doesn’t go on the LCD panel it’s just used to hold the metal frame onto the radio ?
If you go to minute 13:58 you’ll see that it goes on the digitizer not the metal frame the metal frame has no glue on it, it has clips that hold it. Watch the entire thing I know is long but it works if you do it properly. Good luck
I would have loved to seen you do the double sided tape method. I can’t understand why so many ppl who do these quick and easy fix videos never show the fix part of the video. I saw another video of someone that he said he didn’t even use a glue or tape and just put the new digitizer laying over the lcd panel , which to me makes no sense cause you have to have something that fuses or bonds them together. But I could be wrong I just want to fix this. This should have been a recall
Yes that would make no sense the new digitizer has nothing to attach it to the screen so you would definitely get the ghost touches in there. Unfortunately I’m an amateur at recording so I did what I could. But basically the double sided tape I put the edge of the tape in the inside black edge of the digitizer and whatever is left outside tge digitizer I trim off. I don’t know if that makes sense I try my best. Is a long video but I do try to go step by step on it
Hi...the same problem in Italy with my jeep renegade...I made this operation with alcool isopropilic and gorilla tape and the u-connect is perfect for this moment...for the future probably change the LG display with Amazon if not function the display Thanks for your video👍
So is there supposed to be new glue in there to replace what you took off?
no no glue just follow the steps carefully. An air gap is built between the digitizer and screen after putting the double sided tape I used around the corner. no glue in there
Thank you for posting this video just repaired my wife’s Jeep using this method. The hardest part is getting that glue all off.
Glad I was able to help
I followed all of these steps and the radio works just fine, however none of the touch elements are working. Any thoughts on where I went wrong? Thanks
I would probably think the digitizer got damaged. That would be the only option. It is very sensitive.
Did you ever figure out what the provlem was?
Thank you so much. I didn`t need to replace the anything. I imagine most just need to clean the screens, to rid them of all of that gooey glue and replace them. One tip, If I may. Instead of using alcohol, simply apply "peanut butter" to the glue, wait 2 minutes and simply scrape the residue off with a butter or steak knife (with the intentions of not scratching the glass), then dishwashing liquid, then alcohol, or glass cleaner to finish up (that whole process will take minutes, not hours.
Lol good tip
Thanks a lot! This totally works. Removing the old glue was “fun” but rewarding. Feels great to avoid donating extra money to the dealership After the re-install I have a small red shaded region on the display but not a big deal
Happy that it work mine still running strong did my moms wk2 2019 which was having the same problem and it work just as well
I think your right the corners from facotry but the main thing is the amount of glue they used hot weather not opening your windows in that heat bottom line manufacturers messed up and won't own up to it some how they have been able to avoid hundreds of thousands of customers
Totally agree poorly engineered and ridiculous how expensive it is
My '17 Charger SRT is delaminating and I'm thinking about doing your repair or getting a new screen for $400. Some have used thicker Gorilla tape. You used the 15lb tape...they make a 38lb tape. Do you think that would have helped by putting a little more distance between the digitizer and the screen? With a little more distance it wouldn't be so sensitive. Thanks.
I would not recommend it more space = lessinput to the screen you may end up with spots that will not have inputs in the screen. Remember the oem glue has only a few mm from screen to digitizer that’s why as soon as you get the bubbles the ghost inputs appear. The strength of the tape is not problematic remember you have a metal plate that holds the digitizer and the screen
@@John_Doe_2 agree that’s why I use the tape I did is not very thick. Good point
So did you replace that digitizer for $33 on eBay or did you just clean it? Thanks good video.
Nop just cleaned it with propyl alcohol a lot of paper towel and I used a spray bottle to put the alcohol in
Thank you so much for your video! Big help!
It has been 3 weeks now. Everything seems to be working well. This worked perfectly. MANY THANKS!!!
happy for you! enjoy it
Great tutorial! I have the same issue and agreed, is completly anoying. A couple of questions if I can. First, don't you need to put any glue bewteen the screen and the digitizer? And second, you mentioned on the description to have the "radio Code" handy, how do you get it? Thanks alot for this video it really helps!
Good questions. First question. You don’t need the glue anymore, there is a few millimeters of space so the air in that space acts as the glue would, and the space between the digitizer and the screen would be equal all around since the double tape is the same thickness so no glue needed just be careful with the digitizer don’t scratch it take your time. For the second question. Your car recognizes you radio when you plug it in and it does its setup automatically because the radio is VIN certified meaning it recognizes your car only when you plug it back in your car. Worst case senario if it does ask you for a pin make sure before putting the radio back in place write down the radio serial number which is in the back of the radio and you would be able to call Chrysler and get the code for the radio. But, like I said the car does recognizes your radio when you plug it in. I just wasn’t sure at the time I made the video if you needed the code but you do not.
I did it and it works perfect now!! Followed exactly every of your steps. Thanks a lot!!
@@sturalockar glad it worked out!!!. I may have to do it again but for my mom’s keep this time. She is having the same issue in her 2019 I’ll post that video as well.
I’m having this issue in my 2019 jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Where did you buy your replacement screen please? Thanks
I didnt buy one I fixed it. A screen can go for about 300-500 dollars. what you see here is a way to fix it.
@@Indigo_travels_usa thank you
Please link gorilla tape thanks
Thank you so much for this. Is a messy job but it’s worth it. Screen works great now!
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you so much for this video! It worked for my Jeep and saved me so much money.
Glad to hear enjoy!!. Hope everyone can fix it is a very common problem.
I work at Chrysler btw and yes this issue should've been a recall no doubt about it. My gfs 18 Jeep Grand Cherokee has this issue and it's spreading to the point now it needs reoli. Was going to install a whole screen replacement for $500 but I may try this first. Just wasn't sure how well touch would work without the factory adhesive there.
So basically it's the digitizer reinstalled without the factory glue the full the void between the LCD and the digitizer to help with touch input.
Yeah the factory glue in the middle basically allows the screen to have some space from the digitizer so phantom inputs dont happen as well as acting as a thermal barrier. Bubbles mean that glue went somewhere else usually drips down. Now without the glue the digitizer touches the screen, making the phantom inputs. But if you put the tape like I did only around the digitizer then the space between the digitizer and the screen becomes air but is still close enough for your finger inputs to work but for the digitizer not to touch the screen and it works as a thermal barrier as well. Hope it helps, and I'm still rocking lol so it has worked flawless all the time. Just be very careful with the digitizer is very delicate and expensive just be gentle with it it will take time to take the old glue off but slow is the speed to go on this.
Hey, im going to to this for 18 grand cherokee. Did you remove the sticker cover when you put the screen back or just left the side of the tape with the tape cover?
Is double sided tape so both sides are removed so it sticks to the digitizer and the screen; is what keeps the digitizer attached to the screen
What gorilla glue double sided tape did you use? Gonna do this next week!
You get yours working??
@@camerondorris-pheigh8665 yeah has been working since I posted the video. The tape I used is in the 11 minutes 20 seconds of the video
i really appreciate it. Completely a better option than dealership . My Chrysler has been acting up the same way
As long as it helps brother this is such a big issue and they haven’t done anything
Bro did you have any issues with No volume and the AC blowing only hot even if it was cold prior and sound was working before I cleaned everything.
Not at all. It does reset right when you plug it in but it recognizes your car almost immediately. Make sure your connector for the climate control is plugged in correctly and everything click.
@@Indigo_travels_usa thank you. I figured out the Ac. Now the issue is no volume. The radio works but skips only at volume 4 anything higher or lower it dosnt play at all. I’m trying to fight my warranty company and Chrysler/Stellantis for this. The volume thing was happening from before I cleaned it and I figured it had to do with the delamination which it did but after cleaning Everything works perfect just the volume and skipping so it maybe the mother board so I’m trying to get an exchange without having to pay being this delamination is their fault. I know a lot of people fought but only a few won and the only reason it’s not a recall is because no one was hurt because it didn’t cause an accident but mines was at the point where it was switching transmission modes already that’s why I decided it’s time to clean. Anyways thanks for your video it helped alot
@@brianhaupu1608 yeah unfortunately jeep hasnt done anything related to this problem. My moms jeep is delaminating already and is a 2019 limited. It is a shame that this happens so soon and they are not cheap thats the worst part and the reason I try to fixing it like this. Let me know how everything works out for you. I wish you luck with them i know how bad of a pain in the ass they can be.
How is it holding up after this time brother? mine is doing the same
No problems whatsoever best decision I ever took. Mine was brand new less than a year
Very good 👍 So what you did you cleaned all glow and you used dubel side tipe only on corner
Double sided tape all around the perimeter of the digitizer. That did the trick.
Im italian had a lot of alfaromeo love them, but the way, selenia is not an extraordinary oil, i always change it with sheel or bardahl they are amzing just respect the specifics that you car requiee in the user manual! The acea aoecification and the graduation, thats it
Always love alfas they have something extraordinary an look nothing like other cars
No good...olio selenia foward 0/20 ,0/30
I know it should but Selenia is not available in the USA this is the closest thing
hello I AM FROM POLAND I bought an Alfa Romeo in the USA, the best oil for you is ravenol 0w30 c2 + ceramic tech 🙋🏼♂️🦾
Thank you for this. My mechanic charged me 240 for my first oil change. I did have to go to 5 different parts stores to find the oil, plus a tool shop to buy car ramps and a nut driver - took me most of the day to get it done. Next time I know exactly where to go and should take me about an hour or less to complete.
Great tutorial. I ended up buying 4 quarts in one Advance Auto Parts and 2 in another.
Thanks for the tutorial! Looking to get a 2018 soon. I’m 19 years old, is this a good buy for long term? I will take care of it. My income is not consistent as I do college full time. Will I have problems with this car?
Honestly don’t do it. Very nice car but there is a lot of cars out there more reliable and easy to get parts from and cheaper as well specially if you are in college. Get a car that will give you reliability. You will give you more time to focus in college trust me.This car so far I have manage to do everything myself but there is very little to no information out there to DYI. I heard of people having issues with it and Alfa’s have a reputation of been electrically unreliable. I haven’t had any issues but I do my service before manual says is due I feel waiting for an oil change at 8k miles is nuts especially a turbo engine which consumes some oil. For now I’m stuck with it. I changed it from a Dodge Charger I had and it was in my opinion a mistake. BUT I love how it looks.
@@Indigo_travels_usa What sport sedans are reliable to you? Many people have said to me that the 2018 model does not have many issues, and that the only drawback is costy maintenance. You taught me in this video how to do an oil change so now I am eager to get one even more. I’m a bit in doubt now as I have been saving up for this car but don’t know if it will last me
@@-ChristianRF any car which you do regular maintenance and take good care of it will last you as long as you keep up your Mantainence and I recommend doing it before manufacture schedule. I don’t believe in long schedules for maintenance and all my cars have lasted over 180k miles. And people saying that oil is oil are wrong keep that in mind specially on this cars.
It’s a fun car but it has its issues. I got my 2018 Giulia when I was 19 too and thought I was ready but the issues are mostly electrical (dead batteries, start stop not working, head unit freezes). Those error codes go away after a day or two but pop up every so often. It’s a lot of fun but I always feel a little nervous since at any moment something could go wrong.
@@thelaw3278 I heard some of that going on till now no problems with mine. 36558 miles and all good. The auto start I heard was a relay thing
Unfortunately a lot of modern cars dont have dipsticks anymore.
Yeah is frustrating but something to learn from. in the repair manual the mention some small dipstick that is on the bottom but I haven’t seen it yet. Weird
@@Indigo_travels_usa its for the diesel engine. They dont make seperate manuals for diesel and petrol.
@@DonViToCRLNE that would make sense thanks is weird it doesn’t specify I would have love these with a diesel in the USA
@@Indigo_travels_usa i think the new models have it specified in the manuals but im not sure. No diesel in the US? Its not that bad, Alfa isnt a diesel car anyway xD but aren't petrols more common in the US?
@@DonViToCRLNE yeah petrol only in the USA
YOU ARE USING THE WRONG OIL, THERE ONLY 1 OIL THAT IS APPROVED AND THAT HAS THE SN PLUS AND THAT WILL PREVENT LOW SPEED PRE IGNITION (LSPI). IF YOU DO NOT USE THIS OIL NOT ONLY WILL YOU DAMAGE YOUR CARS ENGINE BUT YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE OIL IS MADE BY SHELL UNDER THE MOPAR MAX PRO 0W30
This oil is more than qualified for that car is under the specifications for this car which is the fiat specs. If we are talking about the original oil this car takes, it wouldn’t even be Mopar it would be selenia which is the oil this car comes with from factory. Look under the hood and you’ll see that none of the fluids are available in the USA. And shell does penzzoil and doesn’t void warranty because is under spec for fiat and Mopar and is SN Plus. This is the only oil apart from Mopar that can be use and won’t void warranty. The first oils changes if you did any at the dealership you’ll be surprise to find out that that Mopar oil was not fiat authorized because it was not under their spec. I know because my first oils change I asked for the oil specs at the dealer and to my surprise and theirs it was not under spec. Go on the forums and you’ll find a lot of information in regards to this. It’ll shock you. Now, if we talk about castrol or mobile one they are not under fiat specs and they will tell you not to use it on the Giulia or stelvio
