A backline move which starts to the right and then goes to the left. It is designed for a center field scrum. We were playing on a narrow field, but there was enough space on the blind side to exploit it.

A clip from a rugby game played at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park, on February 12, 1995. Teams are OMBAC and Golden Gate. (I believe this was part of the "California Cup" competition.) Tony Wells gets his head stepped on by OMBAC's prop.

This video is from a Saturday in the spring of 1997, where all 3 sides of Golden Gate Rugby played. After the 2nd of 3 tournament matches, we shared a bus ride with our newly befriended Siberian team. They had just played the local Sicilian side, and we had played the English side. Note that,only 6 months prior to this, the Soviet Union had disintegrated into 15 separate countries.

Here are the commercials with an improved soundtrack. This sequence of bogus commercial were produced by a film production company as a demonstration of what they could make, in the mid-1990's. I didn't like their soundtrack, so I replaced it with something from Beavis and Butthead.

This film reel was made by a commercial movie production firm, trying to show their own talents of film production, during the mid-1990's. They used Golden Gate Rugby Club players for the shoot. Please note that the content of the commercials (glorification of injuries, etc.) did not necessarily reflect the philosophy of the rugby club.

I reffed this game. What a joy to find after thirty years! I remember at least half of these characters by name. It helps my memory that I went on tour to the East Midlands (RFU) in 1997 with Golden Gate. We had a bit of a golden age, but I don't remember the pitch being so crappy. It was a privilege to be in the frame with such personalities as Rocca, Wellsey and Comstock. Legends! If you ever bitched at me, you are forgiven. I can see from the video that I might have deserved it a time or two. And to have Ed Todd, one of the very best, as a TJ was an honor.
God bless these kids; fighting for the animals was even more laughed at then than it is now. They have guts.
Course rugby at its best. They didn't have proper goal posts so took the soccer ones and latched a few two by fours onto them as uprights using the top soccer goal cross bar as the cross bar, two feet lower than a rugby goal post, and some four feet plus wider.

What a find! I played for SFRFC in the final of the 1991 Golden Gate Tournament (and was the MVP, weirdly), which we won against the Seahawks. Cool to see so many players I balled with here on this video. Weird to see Steve Forester (if I'm correct -- #11) play for Golden Gate.
