Great Speech From The Twilight Zone
I've been watching the original TZ series from the beginning for the last few weeks and have been loving every episode. I'm 112 out of 156 episodes in so far and while there have been hundreds of scenes that have left me either pulling the old *lean slightly back while slowly nodding and grinning in approval* or the *awe inspired slow clap while shaking head and smile-gasping as the final twist, point or message lands*. However, this particular scene is the only one that I just had to re watch over and over. I felt compelled to share it's wisdom. Episode 112, 'No Time Like The Past'

From the 1960’s where we were told nuclear weapons would destroy the world any minute yet 60 years later we are still here. The Cold War ended without a single nuke being launched on either side. Liberal Hippies of the era were about doom and gloom and free love yet it was Reagan Era conservative policies that broke the back of the Soviet Union.

This monologue, while good, is just an updated and revised version of The Devil’s speech from GB Shaw’s “Man and Superman”. But as every good writer knows, you steal from the best.

Humans are the only living things that reject their biological purpose willingly and I am not sure where that comes from. Are these apparent flaws built in or were they caused by some evolutionary mutation. We have a self concept and an imagination and will kill each other and some will kill themselves because of their discontentment with life.

Regretfully, Paul realizes he really can't change the future by altering the past. After returning from July 1881, Harvey asks him, "Where do you go now?" *"HERE. Here in the 20th Century, where I belong.* *That's what I've learned, Harvey. To leave the yesterdays alone. Do something.....do something about the tomorrows.* *They're the ones that count. The tomorrows.* *TOMORROWS.* *God, let there BE tomorrows................."*

harvey should have refused to send him back. If he actually managed to change *anything* that would make harvey's reality cease to exist - by sending him back harvey was signing his own death warrant. Never help a time traveller unless they let you into the machine with them

"We live in s septic tank. a cess pit" As opposed to the 19th century, when British MPs had to close Parliament because the smell of sewage from the Thames was too awful & they were all gagging & vomiting from it, when Cholera outbreaks came from people chucking baby nappies (diapers) in or too near the water supply)? Or was the 18th century a halcyon age of enlightenment? When ordinary people went around spouting poetry, no wars, drunkenness or fighting back then! No sirree

It is really quite refreshing to question things that really are perplexing yet realistically possible to grasp within our own thinking to make us ponder on such trivial yet real harsh realities brought onto us by our own doing. What really gets to me is how this describes the state in which humanity struggles to sustain its own existence by separating itself through ideals, power struggle, differences, points of view, so on and so forth. Whatever the case may be it is a continuing struggle between us all that we face on a daily basis in the reality we share among each other

Rod Serling was a great teacher to me from childhood. A moral element in his character , he understood the importance of mutual respect between cultures of people and the dignity of human freedom. A visionary, he saw the higher capabilities of humanity while having a deep understanding of our frailties. For this , it has made him a very strong influence in my life😊

(in Rod Serling voice) -- In a large empty room, situated on a 20-foot high riser platform, lies the control center of a nuclear weapons installation. Beneath it is a shorter and smaller spotlit platform and two diagonally opposed strings of ornamental lights suspended between the two platforms, for the purpose of exchanging profound rhetorical dialog concerning the self destructive nature and existential fate of humankind in the 20th century nuclear age. Jacket and tie attire are requested ... in The Twilight Zone.

Which episode of The Twilight Zone is this, I may just have to spend the $50 to buy the complete series on DVD at Walmart, all five seasons just to see this episode, not to mention the four episodes with Burgess Meredith AKA The Penguin in the classic 1966 Batman series, he was such a good actor.
