'94 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier - Revision G (iPhone, No Boosts)
Переглядів 1,3 тис.6 років тому
This is a quick iPhone clip in the room of my 1994 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, Revision G. This is Channel 2 Modern Red (Bold/Diodes), with NO boosts or pedals. This is the guitar straight into the amp with a 2003 Mesa Traditional/Straight 4X12 (V30) cab. This is my newer of the cabs (speakers aren't as broken in as my other). I often hear that Revision G is flubby, loose sounding, etc...but I ...
'93 Mesa Dual Rectifier, Rev F, Channel 2 Modern - No Boost (iPhone)
Переглядів 1,8 тис.6 років тому
This is a quick iPhone clip in the room of a '93 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, Revision F. It's on Channel 2 Modern/Red, straight into the amp with no boosts or pedals. Random Drop D riffing. I oftentimes hear that Recto's are too flubby, aren't tight amps, etc. I disagree. When dialed in properly, they're versatile amps that can easily play metal without a boost. The low end sometimes clips the ...
'92 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier - Rev C, Channel 1, No Boost (iPhone)
Переглядів 4 тис.6 років тому
This is a quick iPhone clip of Channel 1 of George Lynch's original Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier (Rev C) from the '90s. It's just an iPhone clip in the room, so those expecting pro quality will be disappointed. There are no boosts or pedals used - it's simply the guitar plugged straight into the amp with an iPhone sitting in the room. It's dialed in a little brighter than I normally would, but th...
Mesa Boogie Mark Comparison (IIC+, IIC++, IV)
Переглядів 25 тис.7 років тому
Quick iPhone clip comparing a Mesa Boogie Mark IIC , Mark IIC , and Mark IV (A) using the same settings. This is NOT pro audio, and anyone expecting as such will disappointed. The cab in the video is a 2002 Marshall 4X12 with G12M Greenbacks on top and Marshall V30s on bottom. Guitar is a Les Paul with a Gibson 500T in the bridge. The Mark IIC and Mark IV (A) are both running a quad of Mesa STR...
metallica is a fake muses stollen shit band lololol...
I love the standard 2C+ wayyy better than the ++
Rev g rackmount destroyed to the others
I have 5 of mark series amps, Green stripe, Red stripe, Blue Stripe and a a IIC+.. if they were vastly different they wouldn't have just swiped each version with just a magic marker swipe or a black dot or a + sign. The big difference in the IIC+ and the Mark III was the third channel. Mesa got noticeably different with the Mesa badging vs the Boogie badges. The Rectifier series,The lone star, Road King,Nomad, etc came later and did sound different... The stiletto was probably the most different being EL34 based shooting toward the Marshall tone. Even my newer Mark 5 EL84 based amp sits in my studio with the older mark III'S and IIC+ it too sounds really close even all these years later with totally different power section/ tubes. The petrucci amp is a modern Mark amp and you can line up all the Mark series amps and NO one in the audience would ever know the difference and most guitar players blind folded couldn't pick them out one from the other especially with the transparent EVM 12L black shadow speaker or an MC-90 black shadow. The IIC+ landed production in the right time to become the flagship vintage boogie. Thats when 80's music was huge and that amp was produced at the right time for the players who made it famous. it didn't make them famous. I would argue a Mark III purple, red, blue or green stripe Mark III could have been used by the players who made the IIC+ famous and those albums and concerts wouldn't have sounded any different. They just weren't available at the time those bands recorded those albums. They stopped the IIC+ when the mark III came into production. They stopped the III when the Mark IV started and so on....they are all great amps and tonally are the same. Most of those bands stopped playing the IIC+ and went to the mark III when it came out because the sound was basically the same but the 3 had a third channel, everyone loved that.
How did you score that 2x5 EQ? Weren’t only like 4 of them made?
this comparison video is a treasure! great audio quality too! Would it be possible for you to post this also in guitars only version? keep it up!
Hi. What guitar are you using? Thanks
It’s a Les Paul with EMGs.
Hi. Whats the year of your Les Paul? Thanks
Don’t recall exactly which was in this clip, but I believe it was early 2000s.
@TheNewWorldMan just wanted to let you know that I have your Mark IV A head! I bought it years ago off on Reverb from a seller in Cali, he sent me this vid as the amp’s demo. Have had this amp for a few years now, absolutely love it! First big-boy tube amp I ever got and I will never part with it! Sounds amazing
Great tone man, are all 94 Dual Recs Revision Gs?????
Rev C is wow Rev F is great too
Rev C was the most punchy and pushed sounding to my ears. also had a bit of high end bite that the others didnt
thats georges amp!
To my ears both the Rev C and Rev F sound better than Rev G, but also to my ears both Rev C and Rev F sound similar…..
I wonder what the rev a and rev b sounded like.
Does anyone know why the Racktifier seems to have a bit more snarl than the Rev G head? Aren’t they the same components??
I like the F it's smoother and organic I think it will take a boost the best. I have a 2009 3 Channel Dual Rec I wonder it I could change same component values to get it to sound like the rev F.
they all killin it,sent a 92f to mike turned to revis.c now my cleans suck, but it is a beast. will send back for a cap job and return to f .... No matter what dual you have hit it with a dirty tree if you play 7 string!!!!
Anyone else think the Rackmount G and Rev F sound very similar? Great clip
Do you recommend getting the ++ mod? I have a factory original 1985 IIC+ DRG but I cant decide. Would I be losing something from the original sound even if it's switchable?
It really depends on what you want the amp to do. There’s no right/wrong answer. You will lose a little something if it’s switchable. It’s still a compromise and the mod will impact the tone some even when disengaged. The only way to have the full-on C+ or C++ is to have one or the other in the amp. If you like the clean channel, I wouldn’t recommend the mod. The front end gets slammed hard enough that the clean channel is destroyed. Even at super low settings of Volume 1, it barely cleans up, and what you’re left with is lackluster. You end up with more of a light crunch channel as opposed to a clean channel, which can be cool if you like that instead.
What tones are you going for?
@@thenewworldman3640 I think ypu answered my question. I love the cleans of my IIC+. Last thing I want is to dirty up the clean channel. I just wanted to know if it really brings you THAT much closer to the Metallica sound. I like the MoP era tone and based on your info page that was all C+ anyway right?
It’s a hair more “metal” sounding. It’s not a lot more gain on tap. It’s a little more saturation around the note and feels a little easier to play. The EQ reacts slightly different as well. If you’ve got an ‘85 DRG C+, you’ve essentially got Crunchberries, which was MoP. The ++ was for albums after (for James).
What cab have you used?
Didnt know they were into rev g in 94….
Do the Rev Fs with the 562100 Output Transformer sound different from the ones with the 562105? Wondering if anyone has tried both.
No, they are sonically the same. There’s no magic in the older transformer sets from Schumacher in Rectos. The best Rev C I owned was outfitted with later ‘90s replacement Schumachers.
@@thenewworldman3640 Man good to hear. I just bought a Revision F (Serial 1515) and it has the 562105 and 561136 transformers. I was a little bummed out thinking I was missing out on some magic.
Yeah, I wouldn’t worry about it at all. You’re not missing anything. Some Rev F shipped stock with them, including the 561140. I’ve owned them all and tried them all over the years.
Let me know if you want to sell those amps man. Thanks a lot.
Hi what was your settings
Will you sell any of these ?
I get asked that quite frequently. I suppose if one was to go, it would be the Mark IV. Love them all, but don’t “need” them all either.
@@thenewworldman3640 how much ? Limaguitar@icloud.com Just checking lmk
VH4 sounds best with the recto -Dir En Grey style!
Hi, great demo. I understand that you may or may not have the ++ or the + any longer but do you remember is they were DRG or HRG? Very much appreciated. Cheers
Hi, they are both DRG models. Thanks!
great sounds, like a fuking Kymera from the mithology.
I feel like the IV is closer to the C++ than the C+ because of the higher amount of gain and compression.
What a flexible preamp. I had heard back then that the load era albums were very heavily wizard amps for the recordings. Anyone else hear that? You can’t beat a triaxis though!
I actually had a ‘96 Wizard Modern Classic 100 identical to Hetfield’s for a while. He didn’t have it when they did the original tracks for the Load/Reload era, so there’s no Wizard on Load. The Triaxis rig is the primary sound on Load, and you’ll also hear the old C++, a Rectifier, and Bob’s Jose Marshall blended in at times. Triaxis does most of the heavy lifting. You can hear the basic sound on the demos, which were cut in Lars studio (where James had his Triaxis rig, a Recto, and JC-120). James acquired the Wizard right before they started to work in finalizing the Reload tracks, so while the basic tracks were cut during the Load sessions, the Wizard was used as a blender on Reload. It also featured on Garage Inc as a blender with their live racks, though you can hear it more prominently on tracks like “Turn the Page.”
They used Mesa Rectifiers during the load and reload era. Sure they incorporated other stuff like the wizard amps, and triaxis, but it deadass sounds majority Rectifier.
@@SilentNightBodomNight Sure, the Rectifier was noted above. It was used in conjunction with the Triaxis/C++ rig, as well as Bob’s Jose Marshall per usual.
F and especially C are like a halfway from Rectos to Marks, bloody love that tone.
Rev F is like mark 4 and rev C like mark 2/3 ;)
@@clusternest1704 I don't hear any mark 4 in the rev f. Rev c and D share the same transformers as the mark ivAs.
U wanna do unnamed feeling with this all the time)))..
Aha;).. i had rev d #460. Now #1219 ..f perhaps
Holy shit, watching this I was all like, "This is just the studio recording. Where's the amp demo?" Then the chorus ended. Spot on.👌🏻
i don't know much about mesas, are they just extremely mid forward, the mark series? this guys video and all the others i've watch literally have the mids at zero and the mid slider on the eq pulled all the way down. they still don't sound SUPER scooped, scooped but not like disgustingly scooped like you would expect an amp to sound with these settings. i just don't get it
You’re 100% on point. The Mesa Mark series are extremely mid heavy amps. Dipping the 750 slider (to a reasonable degree) just flattens the mid bump and makes it more neutral as opposed to scooping them (which you could still do if you dropped it all the way). You can dial a lot of mids out and still have more midrange than on a lot of amps.
@@thenewworldman3640 i think something is wrong with me. I don't like using the geq on my IV. Is it just my ears that likes the mid heavy tone of the amp or like...my cabs? I have a 212 with a v30 and c90 blend.
Sounds great man lol That custom EQ is the trick
nailed it!
very nice sound! what's the serials in # on this one ?
Thanks! It’s in the 150-ish range I think. I’d have to check to be more specific.
Ok just let me know if you know one day! 150 ish seems to be the few last original
Ahhh! They really do exist!
super throaty...diezel signature. so satisfying to the ears!
C is the bone crusher. Awesome video! thanks for doing this.
damn that rackmount has a haunting bark!
Thank you for comparing. Good job, we can hear the real difference. I own IIC++, IIC+, III red and IV-A, and I can say that I recognise my amps ;-) Just one thing, the IIC++ sounds fuller than the IIC+ on your clip, i think its because of the poweramp section (simulclass for IIC+, class AB for IIC++). My IIC++ and IIC+ are both in class AB and the IIC+ sounds fuller but less gainy.
I figured most people would complain, given it’s just a quick iPhone clip, but I agree with too. Even with the phone, some of the subtle difference shine through.

your red stripe vs your IV-A ... which do you prefer and why ?
C without a doubt my fav, tight, quick attack and clear. Followed by F, still clear but a tad warmer with bit of loose low end. G is dark and flub. Recto Multi Watt Reborn for the win! lol
6L6 or EL34s?
It was 6L6s in the clip.
This sounds crazy. Do you still have this amp?
No, I sold it a while back. I’ve had quite a few Rev C over the years.
I have a Triple Rectifier Rev F that's been modded to C specs. The Clean channel isn't that great but when I crank the lead....you can hear the lamentation of the women!!!
The lead sound must be fit for a 'Barbarian'.
Out of interest, what does the f to c mod entail?
You need more mids on the IV. Tone doesn't sound good.
What really got me is that THICC bass sound.
