Hello everyone, I'm rather excited to make this news response that Canon finally announced their RF 35mm F1.4 VCM. Early tests show that it beats the legendary EF 35mm F1.4L II in corner sharpness as well as chromatic abrasion than RF 35mm F1.8 IS. The launch price is US $1500 in 2024 and having adjusted the great inflation in recent years, it is considerably cheaper than $1899 USD in 2016. I a...

Hello everyone, Today I am responding to the Panasonic S9 and 26mm F8 manual pancake announcement news. I weighed the importance of its features and gave my honest opinion on the Full frame compact body. In short, I consider it delivered its intended purpose at a reasonable price. However, the kit pancake lens is weirdly off the chart. I demonstrated Canon has already done a great example of it...

hello thanks, which cam you are using?
R8
Between the RF 28mm 2.8 and the 24mm 1.8, which would you recommend for indoor talking head shots, gimbal work, and everyday walk-around photography/video on the RP or R8 body?
I like 28mm quite a lot. It is so small n sharp at the same time. With IS, 24mm is really valuable to RP R8 in certain scene. If you leave camera on a static support, then go with 28mm, if you like walking n talking, get 24mm. Ideally I need 18mm F1.8 or 20mm max for my handheld vlog. And I rather have F2.8 IS than non IS F1.4 For now I am pretty happy with 16mm + 28mm. My 24mm IS was stolen on my first trip with it so I consider it to be my bad luck lens but that is very personal.
@@frankluo230 Thanks for your helpful reply! Sorry to hear about the theft -- that's awful. I have the 16mm which is all I need for vlogging and moving shots. Also the 50mm 1.8 for portraits. I was looking at this lens for static video shots on a tripod, recording music in indoor lighting as well as outdoors. Just worried it won't give as much of a good background blur as the 24mm -- although perhaps I've developed a Toneh addiction?? haha.
@stephenartner I think 28mm toneh is smooth and creamy. It is so inexpensive that adapting any 28mm doesn't make sense. 24mm IS isn't going to get much more toneh check out my vlog videos to compare the two.
Hey bro, considering to buy R8 and doing my research about it and found your channel. What your setup for this vlog? Do you use gimbal because this footage look great with shaking.
No gimbal. Just handheld with a solid extension rod has 1/4inch
@@frankluo230 Do you still using this camera with lens?
@@AnipSaturday check my latest walking vlogs all done with R8 and one of the RF lenses 16mm 28mm 50mm
@@frankluo230 Thanks for sharing video. Anyway you got the Lumix s9 . How's it feel? can you make video comparing with R8?
Great test ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice sharp lens, not good for face vlogging though, not wide enough.
Yeah I agree 28 has become my walking vlog lens when I am filming myself.
Nice! Never tried that lens, it looks great!👍👍😊😊
I love it! Focus breathing on cheap prime is inevitable due to cost, size and weight compromise but Canon has enabled this function on entry level FF R8 and cheap RF lenses, unlike Sony.
this lens has L glass sharpness...... I'm using it on my older Canon R .......
It’s plastic it for sure doesn’t have L glass sharpness
would much much prefer NOT to use a dummy battery and simply be able to use a power bank with cord to camera with battery in it that powers camera from power bank and then when it runs out reverts back to internal battery. Idk why they are so stupid with it any power delivery should just work but it doesnt and your forced to use the dummy battery bullshit
Did your far stretch your arm on this video?
I agree with your perspective however feel sad about Nikon's lack of ambition. They need to announce Z6iii properly stand against a7IV and R6II to fight in the mainstream FF market then z7iii to fight in the a7R V region. Zf first with an old sensor new processor is kinda mid of nowhere. Retro body should be for still photographer and high mega pixel count, no video spec focus.
Thanks. The retro route is not for Nikon. Nikon has enough PASM dials cameras on Z lineup to make money. The Zfc was a good strategy to attract a lot of beginners with the retro style, and around 12 colors/options. I still hope Nikon will adopt another strategy for tye ZF. The camera should be special for special people, real or special photographers... means not for everyone. Like the Leica Q3 is not for everyone. Nikon could kind of copy Leica, and look for collaboration with brand and/or renowned photographers to bring special edition, signature edition of this special cameras. This camera is not for vloggers or selfie, than a tilting screen is a must for photographers... If #Nikon is aiming the masses with this coming #ZF, people are going to forget this camera weeks after it's release.
I loved this video. Made me feel better about buying into the Canon ecosystem. All the youtubers are raving about Sony but you can't really go wrong with full frame Canon R8/RP + 16mm!
The moment I realized you can't enjoy IBIS at wider than 20mm fov anyways, I decided to go for R8. Digital enhanced in Canon is pretty solid and 16mm center to middle IQ is superb.
@@frankluo230That's spot on. All the videos I've seen of the 16mm on the R5/R6 are super warpy and made me glad I have the RP. I must say, though, that I am not thrilled with enhanced stabilization. Since my RP is basically only a 1080p camera, I find the enhanced stab just sacrifices too much image quality. For vlogging it's passable, but for front facing shots (walking down a street, walking down a nature trail, etc.) it's never nearly as sharp as I'd like it to be and it's still pretty shaky. I'm really interested in the new 28mm pancake, but I fear it'll also be unusable without a gimbal. I was wondering if you had any advice for settings I should change or any gear upgrades -- short of buying the R8, which I know would solve my issues since it has 4k, but it's out of budget currently. I'm seriously considering just giving up and buying a GoPro for my walking shots for their immaculate stabilization.
@@stephenartnermusic it is always tempting with gopro DJI ultra stab or rock steady whatever they call it. Big sensor cameras need a faster processor and software to keep up with those little guys. In the end, it won't hurt to have both. I didn't use Digital enhanced until I got R8. My RP setting was only digital stab on. R8 biggest advantage is fast scanning sensor and very low jello effect. 4k or 1080p is not that important in Vlog type of videos.
😴 'Promosm'
No Gimbal or external stablizer, just handheld a battery handle.
Hi Frank, thanks for the great videos. Is there a reason you prefer the RF16mm to the RF15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 lens? That zoom lens has image stabilization so I figure it may be better for video. I'm trying to decide between the two lenses for vlogging!
You can certainly try to use the zoom I have heard great things about it. However for me f4.5 at wide end 15mm just not enough. What I might add is 28mm f2.8 new pancake or 24-105stm to compliment the setup. At 28mm I would use it to shoot POV things in front of my eyes I would probably be behind the camera walking. F4 or even f5 is more than enough for that purpose. At 16mm or 15mm, if you like any background separation, even just to reduce distraction at background, F2.8 is a minimum.
@@frankluo230 Thanks for your helpful reply! I have had the chance to try out the 16mm and I like it; obviously I wish it were stabilized but then again if I bought the zoom lens it would be double the price for a worse aperture and I would never use anything other than 15mm. For me it's either 16mm plus 24-105stm (around $400USD total right now with sales) or the 15-30mm alone for the same $400USD. I guess you're saying it's better to have those two lenses together rather than just the one variable aperture wide angle zoom. I would also like to say that I really appreciate all the vlogging test footage you've put out. I don't see many other channels reviewing budget Canon vlogging setups these days.
@@stephenartnermusic People think Sony platform gives them more freedom for lens selection but I think Canon's budget lineup is really appealing. If first party is enough for my needs why would I want third party anyways
Thanks ❤🙏🙏 For The Video🎥 Bro
Welcome 😊
I do think that the Canon R8 w 16mm/2.8 on a small gimbal like the Crane M2S would be an excellent setup.
I dont travel with a gimbal usually. I have used a mechanical 4th axis stabilizer made by an Aussie bloke called Scotty in my previous videos. Moving forward I think I will stick with just EIS R8 + 16mm with a selfie stick. The whole thing is so compact and unobtrusive.
In 2023 there are 2 very good lens vlogging options for MFT - Oly 9-18mm/4-5.6 and Pan 9mm/1.7. Currently an Oly body is needed for PDAF but that may change soon. Therefore the EM5 Mk3 or OM5 is a nice compact body. Also the IBIS is the best.
I found fov is far more important than Stab. I need FF equiv 16-20mm FOV no wider no narrower. In the range I desired, M43 has 9mm prime only. The Oly 9-18 I used before, very toy like, IQ is also closer to smartphone than real camera. EM5 III + 9mm Leica is not the best combo for IBIS and also not cheap. I just bought R8 + RF16 + RF 50 with card, quick release plate for less than $3000 AUD. IMO nothing comes close in terms of what this combo can offer.
I think the EIS with the RP is good enough for vlogging.
What camera you using?
RP. Sadly RF 24 was stolen not long after this video. stay tuned with my latest upload. I repurchased RF16 and a brand new R8
Nice - quality is really good!
plese use iphone14
thanks. Is your RP video shooting mode set to auto or manual? If it is all automatic, what will be the effect? And you can try to turn on digital IS standard mode.
Manual, usually I fixed the Aperture and shutter speed, let Auto ISO do its job.
So where exactly did you use the ND filter. I think you used the first paragraph, but not the second paragraph. Because you removed the ND filter and it fell to the ground. In fact, I think it seems that I can do without the ND filter. What do you think.
Australian sun is pretty unforgiving. I cant do outdoors without ND.
I know RP does not have IBIS. R5/R6 has IBIS. But R5/R6+16MM will have background twitching. Your RP+16MM is perfect. I want to ask a question, have you turned on the standard mode of digital IS?
digital IS enabled.
good effort man ! very helpful
Great video. Ive used the RP on my channel and it is pretty nice!
Great video!!!
Thanks. There are very few videos out on the VH-10. Thanks for info
NDI HX, Ethernet via USBC dongle, 1000nits monitor, H.264 recorder, live streaming encoder. If this thing does 4k, it could sell like hot cake at 3x the price. Ephihan Pearl Nano costs a pretty $1.3k if I am not mistaken.

Your channel will grow up if you will upload videos with vlogging test. Some UA-camrs always just tell stories about camera.

Hey Frank, great video! Glad you’re enjoying the 16mm lens. So, you change shutter speed while shooting video? I’ve never heard of doing that before. I use an ND filter and keep the shutter speed constant.
For Vlogging, it is not that big of a deal. Motion blur is affected but most people can't tell before it gets to 1/1000s or faster. I don't believe someone says on UA-cam they can tell if the shutter angle is at 180deg or not. Unless they open it in editing software and play it frame by frame. Most of the comparison video uses perfect 1/50s and 1/2000s to illustrate a point. But in practical, 1/50s 1/125s 1/320s I can't tell the difference for talking walking type of vlog. I also have a ND16 43mm on order and I will shoot a comparison once I get it. Thanks for watching cheers
The video I referred to from great Anton Browne ua-cam.com/video/KysnvthnzgY/v-deo.html in regards to V7x with V7 Grille. His mic skills are nuts.
Hey Frank! I agree, this lens is perfect! Keeps the camera setup small and light, it’s beautifully wide, it’s quiet enough (for my tastes) - I love it! Great video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
