My fam went to Jamaica for the Independence in August 1962, several months after filming. The beautiful modern airport seen was surrounded by wreckage from buildings. Ursula was dubbed, I believe...the photog news-lady/spy had just won island's beauty contest. I read all the Fleming books by age 13, was translating "The Hobbit" into French that age. Whole island had a 2 week party...we were treated wonderfully. Saw world Limbo champ. Land crab almost scared me to death, late night alone....age 10. Dunn's River Falls is wonderful...somewhat crowded. Dr. No actor played important, pivotal role in "Viva Zapata". Moneypenny! 'M' actor played the likable sergeant, aide to Trevor Howard, in "The Third Man". But the next Bond is still my favorite.

It might be space opera, like the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials that inspired it, but Star Wars really isn't science fiction. It's a fantasy set in space but, like Flash Gordon, the technology and science that enables it to be set there never really matters and there's no reason that the entire story couldn't be scaled down to fit within one smaller mythical setting. Star Wars has more in common with Lord of the Rings than it does with Blade Runner or even Jurassic Park or The Andromeda Strain.

A captain is supposed to give up his life, his ship, and the lives of the crew before violating the prime directive. ... But the penalty is nowhere near that severe. Attempting to codify anti-colonialism gives results as immoral as they are silly.

Fantastic film. I love the long lingering shots at the begining so you get used to long takes so when the violence happens in the second half you, as the audience, has subliminal knowledge that you are trapped in the tense violence of the shot. Also great to hear you taking care of your mental health and sharing physical media. I got my vhs collection. Physical media is great. I got the ET with guns pointing at kids and police officers calling them terrorists. ❤

Thank you Mick. Paul is crazy as hell about the music. Cynthia is INCREDIBLE. The changes she made to certain songs actually worked and the emotion she put into them was amazing. They did do singing on set. Ariana Grande talked about it in several interviews and there's behind the scenes videos of them singing while filming and they sound great. I also disagree with having to build on the Broadway musical. In a way they are because they've incorporated things from the book that weren't in the Broadway musical. How many times have production companies taken source material and added stupid shit and ruined it instead of just sticking with the source material that needed nothing else? I LOVE that they kept it just like the musical and used set designs to mimic some of the ones you'd see on Broadway. I can't find anything suggesting they used cgi for Fiyero in that dancing scene. There's a video of the actor rehearsing the dance on tiktok so that may have been just bad editing. I'll have to rewatch that scene when it comes out streaming. Hate on my 9/10 if you want. I don't get the 7/10 when you're gushing over how great it is and listing point after point that was great and you give it a 7. You deduct because it's part 1 and not the complete movie? That's lame IMHO. I'm shocked so many people didn't know it was in two parts. They should have said act 1 and act 2. Sorry but I had to rant on this one bc I'm passionate about the Broadway musical and it was a huge moment in my life watching it front row so maybe my rating is somewhat biased but I stand by 9/10.

It's a great film, far darker than we might think given its title. But through that dark night of the soul we find renewal of spirit and life. And despite all of life's disappointments, its drudgery and suffering, while it lasts it really is a wonderful life.

Terrifier 2 was bogged down by the lore. It was too long. Terrifier 3 run time was trimmed down by 35 min. I don’t get those who complain about the lore not being better. The kill scenes and horror is the entire point of the movies. The lore is just a bonus that elevates it. I don’t mind them slow dripping information across multiple films. Like they introduced the stuff with Sienna’s father but it doesn’t make total sense yet. That’s totally cool with me. I thought 3 was the best film in the franchise so far.

It wasn't fun, it was boring. I only laughed once, at the beginning, at something Delia said about her Charles watching over her, admiring her. The rest of the time I didn't even smile. They kind of reused some jokes from the first movie, too. Like the choir singing Day-O at Charles' funeral? Why? It felt forced like "here's that iconic song from the first movie? Remember?" and that by itself isn't funny. And as we know the story is all over the place. I also felt bad watching Michael Keaton--you can't blame him for showing his age, he's in his seventies--but if the movie were at least enjoyable it wouldn't have been as tough to watch. His voice aside, there's one scene especially where he gets up from his desk and it's just... it's a septuagenarian getting up out of a chair; it's as lively as you'd expect. But it didn't fit the scene or the character. As I said, if the rest was good I could look past that, but since it sucked, I won't Contrarily, I liked the wedding song part, but only because I liked MacArthur's Park already. 2/5
