Full PRS Regional Match Fossil Pointe, Strike Without Warning Chad in a match environment!!!

if you have not shot this match recently I highly suggest it. Fossil Pointe has really stepped up their course of fire and it is challenging enough to help more advanced shooters but friendly enough for newer shooters. And the new food they have there is amazing.
PRS Muzzle Brake Showdown Part 2 (Chad vs DN5 vs ACE vs Suppressor)
Переглядів 7 тис.7 місяців тому
I wanted to make sure and clarify this shooting footage is based my my competition setup shooting 6mm Dasher with 109 Berger. I have several thousands of rounds behind the gun with the DN5 so I am sure if given more time behind these other devices they would have different controllability...such as someone with thousands of rounds behind the ACE I am sure has better muzzle control than what you...

Incredible match. The wind showed up Saturday as you can tell but it was a heat index of over 103 degrees on both days which was miserable on Sunday with lower winds.

That the 8-40 or 5-27? Thanks for posting
That’s the 8-40. Appreciate the support!
Awesome footage man! Good shootin!
Appreciate it, more matches coming soon!
@DarthLepard sweet, I'll be giviner in the north east! Best of luck man.
"north" texas :) I wanna come do this. signing up for your email list. hopefully you have something for newbies
Well most matches are newbie friendly, almost every PRS shooter is willing to help new shooters. I know Taylor and crew will help any new shooters that shows up Its an hour south of Dallas, that is pretty north in my book :)
Tower troop line looks like such a fun stage. Love one position stages prone. Also the 5 position 2 target stage earlier in the video. Great shooting!
Great video Don! You were doing work! 👏🏻
Thank you, it was a lot of fun out there, this match was very well laid out!
Great video and video composition! Subbed, stoked for more match content
Appreciate the sub! More match content on the way for sure.
Nice video! Keep em coming!
Thank you! I'm planning to shoot a few more matches this year so I’ll get some more videos up soon.
First time viewer from CTX ! Just getting into PRS. What is your rig set up? Great shooting!
Thanks! My setup currently is: Impact Bartlein in 6 Dasher - 24 inch 105 Bergers with N150 going around 2790 ACC Elite chassis Bix trigger Alpha brass ZCO glass YHM suppressor but waiting on BOSS TopShot Several people have asked so I might do a breakdown of my journey to get to this setup !
@ I would think so not to many videos on detailed breakdown on set ups . The what’s and whys I have questions about when it comes from what is perfect or works best for you! Keep up the good work! Hopefully our paths cross one day!
Thanks for the reply, I will for sure put something together. 2025 will be my 3rd year so I had a lot of learning along the way, maybe it can help so newer shooters to PRS.
What scope are you running now? I like the reticle. Nice work.
Thanks, it was a fairly straightforward match but still tricky. I heard more than once that it "shoots like an OKlahoma match" with its panning and wind. I am shooting the ZCO with Impact1x reticle, by far my favorite. Expensive but IMO one of the best you can get.
Huh that looks like Waxahachie
Yep. At ETTS. 20 min from my house. Wish they kept the long range in better shape. So much potential…..
Any particular reason you chose 6-24 over 8-32?
It was borrowed so I could take it for a test run. I did end up purchasing the 8-32 when it was released.
@@DarthLepard how do you like the Mark4HD?
Bare 0:00 EC tuner 2:32 MPA DN5 3:52 TMB Gen2 5:15 ATS 7:00 Muzzle Brakes and More Super Beast II 9:22 Comparison 11:22
thank you for that, I have been meaning to put timestamps on any videos I do like this in the future, I know it is helpful for me when I am watching other videos
Audio is horrible.
very first recording and a very windy day...but yeah, I hope it has gotten better over time :)
That skills stage was killer. Nice work man. Looks fun
Thank you K&M is my favorite place to shoot, can’t wait to go back there for GAP Grind!!!
These videos are awesome! Keep em coming
Thank you. Going to get some more coming soon.
The DN5 seems to be better. What caliber are u shooting?
The DN5 is very effective for sure. I am shooting 6 Dasher. As with anything to get that level of performance there is a trade off for concussion, although I personally find the DN5 bearable even in a 2 day match.
@@DarthLepard Does CHAD have significantly less concussion compared to DN5? I just cant bear the headache caused by tmb anymore (im shooting 308 for tac division)
Nice work! Ive found reviewing my TriggerCam footage so helpful. You catch so many things that you miss in the moment.
so true, I pick up on a lot of things I know better than to do
Bolt de-cocked...what action are you running?
Impact…..it’s a long story
this is one of my favorite matches of the year. good shooting
Punisher is at the top of my list as well
What’s you thought on the CHAD in a competition compared to the DN5
Honestly I can’t tell a huge difference performance wise. The Chad is interesting because I don’t “feel” the concussion like blast to my face but it is there. The DN5 I feel the blast but at the end of the day I don’t feel as concussed if that makes any sense.
@@DarthLepard does either of them gives u headache like the tmb?
How do you get that stable? I can't make my reticle be that still off barricades
A good balanced rifle. Your balance point should be about 4 inches in front of your magwell. A good heavy sand filled bag, can’t stress that enough. If you are trying to use lightweight or bead fill you are making it much for difficult. Dry fire practice and by that I mean build a position and do not dry fire until your reticle is perfectly still. I mean still, not acceptable wobble. You will learn on how to put pressure in and take pressure out to get more stable. Good luck
Saw you at K&M. But thank you for the video. I just went from the MDT, to the ACE, then to the DN5. Do not enjoy the DN5. Will be refreshing to get the Chad.
I highly recommend shooting the Chad before just buying one. While it has considerable less blast than the TMB it is comparable to the DN5...and it is LOUD. Not saying it doesn't do what it advertised...it controls muzzle rise and has less blast than the TMB but if you are blast sensitive then please keep that in mind. As I said in the video....it is not ACE in that regard.
Whats wrong with the DN5?
@@DarthLepard You're a good man, thank you. What magnification did you do this on?
Thank you for the video! If I may ask, what power are you using in this stage?
Not exactly sure but I typically run 18 power for the majority of the stages I shoot.
@@DarthLepard thank you!
Very difficult stage
Yep. The course of fire was well thought out and remaining calm and breaking good shots was the key…
How was the felt recoil of the Chad compared to the DN5? Was it similar to the tmb? I'm very impressed with the DN5 for the money, but i follow without warning closely and love what they are doing. I just don't know if i can justify an extra 300 over the DN5 for the Chad. The Chad does have an integrated tuner so i understand why it's priced higher.
I shoot a dasher so it’s hard to really rate felt recoil with something so low already. I like the recoil impulse of the Chad better because it doesn’t drive down the muzzle as hard.
@DarthLepard I kimd of figured since it is a 6 dasher. Not much recoil to begin with lol.
Thank you for the review. Looks like I need a Chad 🤭
Haha. It appears to be a good brake overall.
Thanks for the good review. Good to see people are enjoying the chad and its performance. Certainly had the least reticle movement out of all the other brakes. 🤙🤙🤙
Thanks BJ, I was pleasantly surprised by the reduce blast for sure. Shooting it at the Scorcher this weekend so I have high hopes. Let me know if you get any of those bags in stock, would love to do a little review on that as well.
@@DarthLepard thanks mate, probably wont be another 2 months will be get more bags but everyone will know when we do :)
Great comparison! I'm running my Chad on my 25 creed and a tmb on my dasher. Might pick up a DN5 for the Dasher after this video. Side note... Were you in squad 19 for the PRS finale last year? You look familiar.
I would run the DN5 over the TMB any day. Better muzzle control and less blast. I was in squad 19, barely made the cut but I was happy since it was my first year of PRS.
@@DarthLepard I knew you looked familiar. I shot with you. My name is Erik. I was shooting the 25 creed in the red white and blue XLR chassis
That wind was rough on day 1! 😅 Thanks for sharing Don!
After watching some of my video I was making misses right after getting hits with the same wind holds prior. Wind is a skill for sure!!!
I like the demonstration of NPA by removing your firing hand.
Thanks. I have been working on getting NPA vs forcing stability. Harder than what I thought it would be.
It's run a suppressor or stay home as far as I'm concerned. But I've had so many concussions that shooting with a brake, or being around those who are causes me to suffer mentally. It's like I'm coming out of anesthesia after surgery the way it messes with me. Hate it.
makes sense, I know a lot of people who are very sensitive to the blast and prefer to un things like ACE or suppressors and are incredible shooters. I think you can get adapt to whatever system you are using, just takes training
I've been considering getting a Leupold Mark 4hd 6-24 but have been debating between the PR3 reticle and the PR2. Do you regret not having the full tree in PRS?
I have never used a tree in PRS but I know of some that do. It is very easy to build your process around not using the tree. Pretty simple rule in PRS is if you have time to dial, then you dial, period. I also tend to utilize hold under instead of hold overs on the stages that it makes sense to hold
How does the Leupold Mark 4HD glass compare to your Gen 3 Razor? Do you feel like you are giving anything up?
What scope cam do you use and do you find it bother you while you are competing.... I'd like to start analyzing my runs as well to see where i mess up
I use the TriggerCam and it does take some getting used to. I used it for a few one day matches before taking it to a Pro match. I highly recommend, it continues to be one of the best training techniques I have used to date!!!
Nice....just started my prs and prs22 journey this year.... got 3rd for the prs22 regional.... Running a tank brake from Hawkins. Very similar to the ace without the top ports... These are the main muzzle breaks im interested in .....as i wondered if the dn5 would be better then the hawkins..... Im shooting 6.5 cm so im definitely getting pushed on the props....
If you watch my first muzzle break showdown you can see the DN5 was the easy winner in regard to felt recoil and muzzle rise. You would have to get used to the blast though, it is considerably more than the ACE/Hawkins though.
I just love you!! Classic music is life! I can work better, think better, and be grateful for life!
thank you?
Nice review. I would only caveat in the interest of fairness that while on the surface the Chad is twice the price of the DN5 it also includes a tuner. I know a lot of people may not use it, but if you do use a tuner with a DN5 like an ATS tuner it’ll be about the same price as a Chad, but you’ve now got 2 components instead of 1.
very valid point and I plan on doing some tuner testing in the future although not sure if I want to spend the $$$ to get enough shots to make it statistically valid though. THe 6mm Dasher shoots 1/2 minute almost any combo I put through it :)
I wish they made a little cheaper non tuner version
Those shots are going off quickly, 👌
There are a few matches that give you a 90 second time limits and Kahles is one of them. Keeps the stress level high LOL
This is interesting. I just ordered the ACE Brake, it will be waiting for me at the Worlds. Was really looking at the DN5 as well, but I really hate brakes with a passion and have pretty noise sensitive ears so I think its the right choice for me, would run a suppressor but cant bring one to the US.
the ACE is a fantastic brake and I know lots of people who use it successfully with top 10 finishes. It is about the best when it comes to no blast or concussion to the shooter, no doubt
@@DarthLepard yeah I know Buschman, Blackketter, Orgain and Harmon run it. After reading the precision rifle blog about Buschman it really sealed my choise on the Ace vs Dn5 since he complained about tinnitus after 2 day matches with other brakes and not the ace and I already have been suffering from tinnitus since 16 years old. One of the reasons I nearly refuse to shoot unsuppressed
Great comparison don! I switched to an ace from a helfire match. I love the ace due to it consistently tracks straight up and very little left or right. I hated getting headaches from the hellfire and how it wasn't consistent on where I could expect the reticle every shot.
Thanks. I know several people who run the ACE and love it. The complete lack of blast and concussion is nice for sure!!!!
My rugged radiant and Alaskan 360 the weight of my cans do a great job not having jump. RUGGED for the win.
Makes sense the more weight at the end of the barrel helps drive it back down.
They’re titanium but yet heavy enough to balance out my MPA in 6GT what’s great is if you pull a shot you see how much the rifle reacts to not perfect placement and trigger pull
What caliber you shooting here?
6mm Dasher with 109gr Berger Hybrids
@DarthLepard great work again! What is the weight comparison of the Chad compared to the DN5 and ACE?
I have no idea but I will weigh them when I get home this evening though, didn't even think to measure that. Off handed though the Chad seemed a lot heavier to me. Will update this evening
I would imagine a lot of the effectiveness of the low recoil is due to the weight
Chad weighs 14.5 oz. So at least double what the others do.
Finally got mine, im realy impressed with it. I switched mine to the polished version a few months before they shipped. Didnt want the gold dick either lol
yep, I will send mine out for black DLC I think...we are going to have to dunk these things to get them clean for sure. How often do you plan on cleaning yours?
@DarthLepard I cleaned it after 300rds, took the nut and tuner off and put it in a shotglass looking thing full of clr in the ultrasonic. Clean as a whistle.
Hey brother, where’d you find the Chad? I’ve been looking and can’t find them. Thanks again, You put me on the D5 now I see this without the muzzle blast, I’m hooked
well I ordered mine a long time ago back when it was still the TMB just the Morgun King Edition. Just look at Strike Without Warnings website and see if one pops up. I would highly recommend seeing one and shooting it first though. I will be at Twisted Barrel Scorcher if you plan on being there.
Great content! While I love going the brake route, I've gotten pretty comfortable using my tbac7 and tbac5 shooting 6gt. I'll be using a trigger cam for the Twisted Barrel Scorcher Match, so we'll see how bad my muzzle flip is. Hopefully, the video will be usable. Lol. Thx again for the videos.
Check out bullet central or short action precision. They will be getting some very soon.
Preece Precision had some in stock
Our dealers will have them in stock really soon. Bullet central and short action precision are our biggest dealers.
I thought I was the only one who does the "walk of shame"!! Lol
Ha. It happens more than I like :)
Seemed like the wind just kinda did something different downrange at the target. If I had a dollar for every time that happened to me. Lol
first stage of Day 2...was not the start I wanted LOL
I mess up all the time and don’t take the time to measure my misses and will miss second time. That wind was humming. Were you seeing your last couple shots. I know it’s easy to go back on camera and see them. Keep up the good work and thanks for the vido
unfortunately I was seeing them, just not taking the time to get accurate measurements and good corrections....wasted points
Nice shooting! Man, that wind looked sporty! Did you miss on the first two shots? If so, where did it miss?
yeah, the wind for sure showed up on Saturday. I did miss the 1st 2 shots and if you look closely you can see I was too strong on my wind call. I started at 1.9 mil and ended up hitting at 1.3 mil. The 2nd miss was because I was a dummy and did not properly measure and I tried 1.5 mil at the smaller target and again missed upwind. An area I need to improve on is to actually measure my corrections.....
Very nice!
Thanks, it felt really good and I was seeing I was centered on plate. Always nice when you dope card actually lines up LOL
@@DarthLepard You going to Twisted Barrel Scorcher?
Yep, not likely going to be recording that one but I will be there, squad 18 I believe
@@DarthLepardAWESOME! See you there!
Good shooting man. What brake are you running? Do you find the trigger cam cuts your field of view a lot?
I am running the DN5 but I am about to do a comparison on the DN5 vs Chad vs ACE so stay tuned. And yes it does mess with your eye box a bit but you get used to it but it sucks if you get in an awkward position though.
