Fascinating. Were these stored underwater the way dugout canoes were?
The dam is named the Winsor dam, the engineers name was Frank E Windsor with a D. I don't believe the dam was named after him. I've been researching this topic for a few weeks and cant come up with anything concrete as to whom it was named after. It may have been Art Winsor who was a major player with the Metropolitan District Water Supply Commission during the planning and construction of the dam.
Vernal Pools, in practice, are more like fresh water oceans. If you trace the water back to the source, it's usually a massive aquifer, like Ogallala, that covers a huge portion of Kansas and Nebraska. And they can be extremely deep. They're usually fairly safe to drink from or swim in, because the way that water flows, is it usually bubbles up into seeps from gas pressure, and flows down the water sheds into rivers. If you found a good seep, there's ways of opening your way to the aquifer, so that a permanent lake can be created there, which should run always, Because running water is living water, and stagnant water is deadly.
Offer a free flea market for fisherman to come and reuse the equipment. Old bumpers, barrels, markers... Everything can be reused instead of being thrown into a land fill.... Recycling is conservation!
Great Job putting the map information together.
This was mostly thanks to Jack Swedberg an amazing wildlife photographer from Millbury MA. He passed away in 2016. You can watch the documentary of him reintroducing them to Quabbin on UA-cam as well. Thanks Jack you were a good friend and an amazing person you and Thelma are sorely missed
How about the DCR does some work at Constitution Beach in East Boston instead of explaining routes ... This is why the DCR is another corrupted state agency that needs an eye to look at it.
Those bridges also collects a lot of water underneath when rains.
i have seen this movie a number of times on TV, but Not seen shown on TV for a very long time! So, I just Now ordered a Used DVD on Amazon! 😀 Not sure if it was the 1st of it's Type, but certainly one of the Earliest, this Type being ... Do NOT Give a Supercomputer Weapons! "Terminator" and it's Sequels was a much-more gruesome example of Violation of the Rule that "The Forbin Project" taught us. 🫂
Many years ago, I lived in the MIT grad dorm (it has since moved) across the street from the Storrow point. One evening, well after dark, there was an unusually loud noise followed by sound of much breaking glass. We looked up from the reading room. Suddenly there was a very loud crash, followed a few moments later by another crash. An open-top truck, its height extended by wooden slats, had been heavily laden with jars of jam. Heading west, it went under the bridge, shedding much of its load and all of its control, but little of its speed. It sailed at high speed onto the wooded median divider, where undergrad fraternity brothers had relocated not one but two dumpsters from rival fraternities. The truck rammed the first dumpster, and there was a consequent three-body crash. No one was, I gather, injured, but cleaning up broken jam jars I gather was a nuisance.
Ugh. Bittersweet! I have it where I live. My ancestors used to live there, Van Gilders and Winchells.
BTW, the DCR folks should put up cams to capture these crashes. It would make a great UA-cam video series like this one. ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=11ft8+bridge
All 'studense' should be required to watch this video before their final acceptance. Also be handed a map to the routes/roads they should take to prevent this.
Kind of has that old SUNDAY! Epping NH New England Dragway ad vibe.
Would love to see a video from the cab of a truck that shows what it actually sounds like when you hit the hanging signs.
mighty DCR dropping that sick content
No
Well done. Thanks.
Also be a thinkah and use yah blinkah!
Happy Birthday.
Excellent presentation.
This is amazing!!!
Especially Sept. 1 on move-in day for all the new students to Boston, they're not familiar with the area, using GPS which tells them where to go, and this is what happens. That said, many local companies driving big delivery trucks get Storrowed. THEY should know better.
SERIOUSLY THERE'S LIKE A HUNDRED SIGNS
Storrowed!
I’m so happy 80th birthday🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
There used to be a "The" in the name though 😂
It's funny, a lot of people think there was but he's always been just "Smokey Bear". When Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins wrote his theme song in 1952, they added the "the" to help maintain the rhyme and it stuck. smokeybear.com/en/smokeys-history/story-of-smokey
Fake... you have bourbon in those containers :)
wonerful
I saw it last year but didn't acknowledge it. Much worse this year. I'd be surprised if any live Beechs exist here in Massachusetts in 10-20 years
Great job Adi👍

Indeed, a misleading title. I wouldn't help the state....I also know where the few blight resistant chestnut teees are.....but wouldn't tell the state or the ACF.
Though I have my own system of control despite poor ineffective legislation....the state only cares about tax revenue and marijuana, sports betting...but the Lord will have the last word..
I have tons of it.....but you guys have banned all the effective controls.....all my huge collection of beech trees....native, non native are infested, now for the third year.... at the least.
What was banned? Enlighten us.
Wow. You forgot to mention Vietnamese.....
How far down Webster Rd can you walk? Where does it lead to?

It’s on my property in Norton and I saw it an Massasoit State park this past weekend. Sad.
No electric fences. use Claymore mines. 🤪
I'm watching this in June 2024 because of the heat wave we have this week.
Estive aí e simplesmente magnífico. Amei toda essa história e construção
