Better Quality Vid!! Peabody's Bucyrus Erie 2570W at the Bear Run Mine 1/28/23
Updated Vid!!! Better video quality and sound. Bucyrus Erie 2570W Dragline, 220' tall and 13 million lbs, swinging a 136 yard bucket. Built in 1977 near Staunton Indiana at the Amax, Chinook mine. It mined coal on the north side of I-70 until 94' when it crossed the interstate and then worked on the southern part of the mine property. Several years after the mine closed, it was walked to Black Beauty's Farmersburg mine where It worked for some time. When Farmersburg closed, there was extensive maintenance done to the machine, some planned, some not, before being walked farther south to the Bear Run mine where, along with the 2550, it continues to work today.

My dad had a tractor like that one but it had the wide front. Nice roller!
Thank you for taking the time to share your day. It isn't everyday you get a 88B view. Beautiful well kept machine.
I get feeling that it's not his first time ruining one of those...👍👍👍
Some serious skill there.
Would of been a beauty log to quarter saw
I'm pretty sure the 88B I ran had a boom hoist lever control. Mine had a Detroit in it too. Where's the boom control for this machine.
This one doesn't have independent boom hoist. On the console to the left there is an air valve that switches between swing, travel and boom. The same lever runs all of them and the swing clutches is what power all of them
@@be2570w , understood. But it must have been an option the 88B though because I'm positive that the one I ran had an independent boom lever like the 30B did. I think.
@@scottmcquarrie7295 It was absolutely an option. Most of those older machines were like that, because they might have been bought for hook work or digging. A guy that never planned on using it as a crane could save some money by ordering it without the independent boom. I have several small Insleys, and some of them have independent boom and some don't.
@@be2570w , now that makes sense. But I think you would definitely be better off having that option so you could do hook crane work if need be. My bosses had the option and I remember them setting forms and pouring concrete with it at Nyack hospital and Hackensack hospital too. I ran it with a 4 ton wrecking ball and a magnet. I also own a 1000C Insley Excavator. 4-71T Detroit powered.
I love it
Slinging it. Ran a 22 and a 30 but mostly 22 sized stuff. Ponds mostly. Most had GM's but one had a UD. Good digging rigs. Keep Frank out of jail if possible.
As a family we would go camping at Shakamak St. Park from early 1970's until my dad passed in 1992. My brother and I were kids then and he would take us over to one of the Peabody mines somewhere around Linton/ Jasonville area to see the big dragline that was there. Not sure what it was, but it was definitely large. Brings back those memories, for sure. Thanks
Awesome video, brings back some good memories. I ran the 88B out at the old Cowels gravel pit in Kewanna In. that IMI bought. Long hours of back and forth but so interesting and fun to operate, not so much when having to work on it though.
beautiful
Con này cơ hay thuỷ lực bạn? Mình k thấy bạn đạp thắng
Its air control, you don't see me stepping on the brakes because they don't move very far. If you look close you can see it.
How many more years of reserves does Bear Run have left? What is the fate of the old 2570 over by the coal loading operation?
I'm not sure how much is left, but its a good bit I'm sure. The old 2570, actually newer then this one, that was by the wash plant, has been scrapped.
Whats the power unit?
Cummins. KT1150
Why is boom so low ?
Camera was set at a wide angle, it always makes the boom look low when it is.
It working without noise, wow! 😀
Smooth operator… machine in great condition smooth also
It's A Privilege To Watch The Old School Operators Running Friction Crane God Bless Him
Nice footage - cheers for sharing
Is this the one that crossed Interstate 70 in the 90's?
I met Willy a few years ago. Lost contact with him and found out that he had passed away. Such a neat and interesting guy. Will surely be missed.
You had a good teacher, good operator
BEAUTIFUL
Did the same a few years back. Problem is they are so heavy it's a load in and if itself. Big logs your up on the idlers
These are not heavy at all. They’re hollow
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤thanks a lot ! Beautiful memories👍👍👍👍👍
Running the drag cable through the dirt..!!! Needs to cut the top bank back Before digging farther out. 🫣🤭😩
COOL 😎 Rob ran the BE-88B in the Rock Quarries in Miami, the older style where you actually sat in the front of the engine room in 1971… Later he ran a newer model like THIS one in a coal strip mine in the Washington area of Indiana, it was a NEW one about a year old (in the 75-76 year) and when customer’s wanted to see an 88-B in action, the BUCYRUS ERIE factory in Evansville would bring them up to the mine he worked at in big cars to watch him run it for 20-30 minutes standing around in suits.. LOL 🤣👏🥳
I'm not sure where all it did, but this machine used to strip coal in Indiana. It was bought new in 78 and is still owned by the same people today. This is the first dragline I was ever on as a kid, and the 88B that I own now is just one serial number off of this one.
@@be2570w … OK, So you actually Have one Now, WOW, how cool is That..!! 👌✅ Rob Mostly ran LIMA 2400’s at rock quarries in Florida, but when that business slowed down he switched over to Flying night freight 22 years, that business was cut throat also and companies coming n going as yearly bidding went out. 🫣 I’m pretty sure the longest company he stayed with was Connie’s Kalitta’s (the Drag Racer) American International Airways, Kalitta Air LLC now, but gave all that up in 2002 for heavy equipment again..!!
@@annafraley5388 I'm a pilot as well, but never done it for a living. Kalitta used to operate out of Terre Haute at one time. Not far from me. And I used to race sprint cars with Doug Kalitta about 25 years ago.
@@be2570w … Small world, Eh?? Yes we did Roadway Global out of terre Haute back in 95 with the 727s, but I (Rob) was scheduled over to the 747s in January 1996 so started going Much Farther away then like around the World 🌎 but it took a long time to get there..!! 😱 started taking lessons in 1971 in Miami but didn’t finish ALL the ratings till about December 1980 the took until January of 82 to get That illosusive FIRST Job, copilot on DC-3s for 800 $ a month..!! A guy told me while finishing the ratings, “You can Always Love flying. But it will NEVER Love you back”… turned out to be a very True statement…!!!
Iv got a 17a but she has dropped a tooth in the final drive and chewed the intermediate pinion. Need to get her fixed and running again to clear some/a lot of fence lines. You can hear that turbo whistle with a straight pipe from two miles away on a cloudy day. Flat out at 1050 rpm. 14 litre, xfour cylinder. They can lug like no other. The first Cat dozer to ever use a turbo to help em breath.
IF… If This is the same one that was at Old Ben Coal back in 75-76..!! Drove down from the Washington, Montgomery area to see it. 😎👍✅
It's not the same one. That one is still running down at Lynnville, this one originally came from the AMAX Chinook mine east of Terre Haute.
@@be2570w .. Yes, thank you. I figured that out by the end of the day, jut north of I-65 there. That would undoubtedly be the one I went up on at Old Ben Coal back in the 75-76 year..!!✅ I don’t know now what mine number it was, but we drove Down from the Washington area and it was North of Evansville so 🤷🏻♂️🫣 I don’t see ANY mine on google earth that appears to be as Big as the one we went to… And we had flown over it in a Cessna a few weeks before driving down to. I do have a few photos of the mine from the flight AND the ground visit..!!! 😎👍👏
Man, this guy is a pro! Gotta love these old school operators!
Not to good at math, shim shim shim
Dimension 2 ways,, you get a shim on 2 sides. Or you slab heavy on 2 sides. Pick your poison.
The shim is fine to cut when cutting grade but probably should of taken the shim on your last cut since that would likely been lower grade than 2 cuts before
That's what I admire about American miners. They invest in equipment according to production needs. They are not shy.
Those are bloody good tractor. There still a couple in our area working.
Very nice. Glad to see the old girl is still running.
They got it stuck on its way to bear run when crossing a filled in pond they knew was there. Engineers trying to save time didn’t want to go around. Glad it made it
That was right outside of Blackhawk on its way to Farmersburg. They did get it stuck on the walk to Bear Run, but that was right after they went onto the old Minnihaha property and found a soft spot in the reclaim just southeast of the place they call “top of the world”.
@@be2570w yea your right. My memory is a little fuzzy it’s been awhile. I was clearing trees in front of it got to watch the whole thing What a mess
Nice video Matt. the speed of this machine in pretty impressive
👍🏻
Do you have anymore videos of her? Maybe doing some work? I just picked up a 77 I plan to do the same thing to and make a hauler out of her
