SLHANAY PEAK Hike: Unique and Incredible Views of THE CHIEF in Squamish
The Slhanay Peak Trail is a terrific hike in Squamish.
The main draw to the Slhanay Peak hike is the incredible and unique views it provides of The Stawamus Chief. Part of the trail sits within Stawamus Chief Provincial Park itself.
A nice thing about this hike is that it draws a much smaller crowd than other nearby trails. You’ll be able to enjoy the viewpoints with fewer fellow hikers, especially compared to the very popular Chief Trail.
*Note: In the video I incorrectly state the net elevation gain as 450 m. The net elevation gain is closer to 625 m.

You don't need poles. I think they're always a personal preference. Thanks for the comment!

If you keep going up, you can hit Gordon Lake and summit Capilano Mountain. I did it a couple years ago as an overnight hike, and summited Capilano Mountain for sunrise. One of the best hikes I've done in the region but it's a serious workout, especially with an overnight pack! I slpt at a tarn near Gordon Lake.

McFarlane was my hardest, most meaningful hike ever done in BC. The different terrain, the long and hard journey made the whole experience much more memorable. The last scramble to the summit was the cherry on top - anyone who stops at Upper Pierce will not get the full experience! The christening in the glacier water after the hard work was such a payoff Gotta be careful with the parking though there's said to be a lot of vagrants looking to break in...

I summited Evans Peak for the first time a month ago. The hike is intense at parts and I was fortunate to have clear skies at the summit. Great to see you posting regular videos. I am always surprised how few people have subscribed to your work. I subscribed at count 58 a few months ago.

this video is good and I appreciate the candidness about the slog, mud pits and the other obstacles that slow the pace on this demanding backpack. Weather can play such an integral part either making or breaking the experience. I loved the "tale of two hikes". Well done.

Great to see the videos reappearing - was worried when they all disappeared and the first ones to come back didn't feature Karl and you add so much to the videos. You won't remember, but we communicated via email during Covid as I work as an academic in a field related to your wife's profession. Anyway, we are back in Vancouver this summer and are looking forward to checking out a few of our favourite trails in the area and have this one earmarked for a quick evening stroll whilst we are in Squamish and hopefully the coffee shop in/around Smoke Bluffs stays open too 🙂

They quality wasn't as good, and I never used to provide commentating on them. I have about 30 more videos to go and then they'll all be back online. Appreciate the comment! Hope you enjoy the summer and get some great hikes in!
