EHX Tube EQ Self Oscillation - let's make some noise!

I was really inspired the other day after watching some videos on the Electro-Harmonix "Effectology" channel. When I saw that the Tube EQ would self-oscillate I headed to Ebay. I may have used it to "eq" something for maybe 30-40 seconds and then it was on to noise making. The EQ went into an EHX Memory Boy and then into the Hardwire TL-2 Metal Distortion pedal.
The secret to the rhythmic modulation was patching a four note control voltage sequence from the Doepfer clock sequencer into the expression pedal input of the Tube EQ. The settings I created were not for a guitar per se but about halfway thru I plugged my Strat into the EQ pedal to see how it would sound - kind of gnarly but what the hell. There is a brief clip of video I took the summer of '09 as I headed Northbound on I-25 between Denver and Ft. Collins. Traffic was backed up 2 miles.

This is my Strat thru the Moogerfooger Analog Delay. After a few seconds I switched on the external loop which had the Ring Modulator going thru it. Each subsequent delay is more effected than the last. Towards the end I engaged the EHX Hog Harmonic Octave Generator and layered in an Evolver bass drone. This is a noise improv I did featuring the EHX Tube Zipper & 16 Second Delay, Red Witch Fuzz God, Antenna 2 Copilot, and Pigtronix Phaser. I ran the signal into a Fender Deluxe 112 and recorded it with a Shure SM-57. The Tube Zipper and Fuzz God are great distortion pedals but they also do wicked self-modulation. I recorded an 80 measure drum pattern using the drums from a Roland SH-32. Mono out into the SWR Mini Mo. The SWR has killer analog distortion and a fat analog bass synth section that tracks your playing really well. The sound was sometimes processed with a little reverb, delay, and TC electronic FireworX.

This began when I strummed an e minor chord and looped it with my Pigtronix Echolution. I started playing some chords on top of it with my old Yamaha 12 string and it just built from there. I put the loop thru the Modfactor filter mod using the high pass mode. Bass drum from the Jomox MBase. The Evolver was used for bass and synth lead. My EMG equipped strat did everything else.

ModFactor vs EHX 16 Second Delay

I recorded a quick loop on my EHX 16 Second Delay and ran it thru the Eventide Modfactor using the Mod Filter preset. I also sometimes ran the delay thru a Moogerfooger Ring Modulator.
