My husband's family relocated from South Dakota to Los Angeles in the 60's. He is 13 years older than me and I could not imagine being located from a reservation to a big metropolitan area. He was actually born in Sun Valley and came to Denver when He was 3. I was always raised in urban Denver. My tribe is Comanche and I was born in Oklahoma. I didn't grow up around my culture, so when I went to live with my family in Oklahoma it was a culture shock and I loved it.
My mother also came from South Dakota to Los Angeles. She was a Sioux from Pine Ridge.
All people in the Bay Area would be enriched by watching this. A revelation.
All new to me...Thanks for sharing this important story, Amy. You are making a significant difference to the NUMI in Los Gatos, CA
