Fun fact: The two groups performing are doing so on different CONTINENTS; Dirty Loops are recording in Sweden and Cory Wong and his band are in Minnesota USA. The separate sets are fused together with cinematic magic. Another couple of points to mention are Cory Wong’s horn section is the horn section who backed up Prince (who Prince named ‘The Horn Heads’) … and this song is quite possibly the only pop tune in existence which features a double-belled euphonium. The arrangement switching the tune from 4/4 to 12/8 was imho a GENIUS move. These folks are top shelf and should be respected as such.

The title loosely translates to “Uncle Parrot”. This was, per Michael League’s description, an exploration of northern Brazilian music styles to which he had discovered and taken a liking.

Jacob referred to this as “a love song in 14/4.” This was a song on JC’s “In My Room” album which he and M. League re-arranged for this instrumentation setup.

Been enjoying your reactions! One thing I wonder about when I watch these Snarky videos is: what did it sound like in the room, if you took your headphones off? I assume the guitars, basses, synths, etc are not amped - they’d probably keep them in the headphones to avoid bleed on the recording. But obviously the drums, brass, strings, etc would be fully audible. Just something I’ve thought about. Must have sounded pretty strange in the room!

You should watch the video! It’s embroidered in the song’s mood. Regarding the uncensored video clip, there is a slightly altered (i.e. censored) version on youtube. Now i was a teenager in the 80’s but i believe i remember this song coming out a bit later than 1982, maybe they gave it a 2nd go in the mid 80’s? I remember that ‘disturbing’ feeling it gave me and it’s only much later that i got to appreciate this feature.
