British Dragonfly Society, registered charity: 800196. Patron: Sir David Attenborough.
We are the world’s largest dragonfly conservation organisation and our mission is to promote the study, recording and conservation of dragonflies and their wetland habitats.
Dragonflies and damselflies are spectacular aerial insects: voracious hunters that have inhabited Earth for 350 million years. They are excellent bio-indicators of the health of our wetland habitats and important ambassadors for all the wonderful wildlife that shares their wetland homes. They are also symbols of luck and courage, capturing the imagination for thousands of years. However, approximately one-third of the UK’s 42 resident species are rare or under threat. We are working to change that.

Local to global pressures on freshwater ecosystems hope or despair – Prof Steve Ormerod
Local to global pressures on freshwater ecosystems: hope or despair? - Prof Steve Ormerod (Cardiff University)
Global data show how freshwaters are losing biodiversity faster than any other ecosystem while there is growing concern about the pollution of streams and rivers in the UK. Data from England and Wales reveal mixed fortunes, however. While there is growing pressures from intensifying agriculture and climate change, other evidence reveals some benefits from past regulatory interventions that provide some hope about the value of taking appropriate action.

The Dogfighting Tactics of Dragonflies - Sam Fabian
Переглядів 398Рік тому
Standing at the edge of a pond, it is common to see dragonflies engaged in rapid aerial clashes. These engagements, or pursuits, serve three different functions: (1) predation, (2) territoriality, and (3) mating. We know little about the differences between these interactions and how dragonflies adapt their pursuit tactics to serve each function. Using high-speed videography in the field with a...

Glad you liked it, thanks for your kind feedback. All the best from sunny Cornwall
Informative and well paced, lovely stuff! 🪰
Thank you, glad you liked it 😊
Thank you, John. Second edition of the book.... It's still 'Sapphire Flutterer'. The image of a Black Knight is now one of a male (no female illustration now). Still got lots of pictures of dead, twisted specimens and the photo of Graphic Flutterer is a joke.
Really enjoyed the presentation. I'm pleased it is so successful. Appreciate all the passion involved
Many thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the presentation, hopefully the future is bright for the Red River Valley! Steve
