Have you been to Eclectic Alliance in Faribault, MN? Corner 51 Marketplace inside Eclectic Alliance is a homeschool bookstore, and there are tons of FIAR titles there! ❤
No, I have not! That sounds wonderful! Thanks so much for mentioning it!!
So my son is currently doing TGTB lvl K LA and Math. I have purchased from CLE Lvl 1 (learn to read, LA 1, reading 1, and math 1) and im going to switch him to CLE but trying to decide if i should just let him finish TGTB lvl K LA & math or make the switch CLE now. It seems pretty slow starting and so much at the basics im curious if him finishing TGTB and then going back to basics of 1+1=2 where CLE math 1 starts off, would make him disinterested bc its "too easy" ...so if you switched from TGTB did you finish lvl K first? And how was the experience?
Hi! Thanks for your question! We did switch over from TGTB a while back and did finish their Level K first. If you'd really like to ease into CLE soon, I wonder if you could do the earlier CLE Math lessons as a bit of a "bonus" alongside the TGTB curriculum as you finish it up, or even on an every other day basis, since the earlier CLE lessons are so simple. CLE definitely does ramp up, though, and pretty soon! I am very, very pleased with CLE Math for our daughter. I hope that helps some, and I hope your son loves it! A quick suggestion that I just thought of: currently my 5 year old son is doing the Grade K (called Level A) workbook of Mathematical Reasoning from The Critical Thinking Company. I do plan to have my son start CLE Math before long, but I know that CLE is less "flashy" or exciting than other thing, so if you're looking for a way to keep your son engaged, you could also work in a page of Mathematical Reasoning workbook time as a bit of a fun side activity. (Those Mathematical Reasoning workbooks can be used as supplemental or as a whole curriculum. Sometimes we did those with my daughter, although I have been most consistent in the Math. Reasoning workbook with my son. He never did the TGTB Math curriculum. I may even do some of the Math. Reasoning workbooks again in the future with my daughter. This isn't to say that CLE Math is lacking, necessarily, but I have heard in the past that CLE doesn't have tons of critical thinking, so it's nice to have options to supplement if desired! Just thought I'd mention that!) We really do love, CLE, though!

Absolutely agree with this!! We have twin 1 year olds, and I always tell my husband that if you’re not anticipating the next need then you’re behind 🤣🤣
Haha, yes!! That’s a great way to put it! And with twins - that’s a whole new level of needing to anticipate needs! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! ☺️
I'm really looking forward to trying this!
Thank you! It's so fun to hear you liked this tip! I hope it works out wonderfully for you!
Love this! I’ve never heard of that phrase before! Brilliant, I’ll try it out today 💛
Yay! That's so fun to hear! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! :)
Hi Hannah, I just wanted to say hello and let you know that I’ve recently come across your channel and have really enjoy your videos 😊. I have a 4 yr old son and came across your 4 yr old gift ideas around Christmas. We’ve recently downsized homes and have moved a few times in the past several years, so hearing this video was very helpful, thanks so much 😊
Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to comment! :) I'm so happy to hear you enjoy my videos, and that this specific video was helpful to you in all of your moving! It can be hard to feel really settled when you move around a lot! (I'm putting this strategy into practice right now since we just moved into a rental house!) Thanks for being here and for sticking around! :)
How does CLE actually teach those additional facts? Does it do it with a number line, counting something or a ten frame? Or does it just have the parent just tell the child?
Hi! That is a great question! A new fact is introduced every day and previously learned facts are reviewed every day as well. It is primarily the parent telling the child, since CLE's approach to math facts is automatic recall as much as possible. Their method for basic addition and subtraction facts is: teacher introduction of each fact, workbook practice, daily flashcard practice, and then speed drill practice. If you'd like, I can email or message you pictures of the teacher guide's explanation for this. It's less of a hands-on approach and more of a workbook approach, but we have found the predictability and consistency of their system to be really effective. There is definitely number line work in the workbook lessons, among other ways to count objects, but the number lines aren't typically used for learning the new math facts. Something I've really liked is a daily word problem read aloud to the child, and they have to fill in the blanks (and it's often a recent or sometimes a new math fact!). I hope that helps some! Let me know if you have other questions! We've really enjoyed CLE Math!
@ that’s so kind! Yes I would love that picture. Is there a private way to send you my email here on YT?
@ if you follow me over on Instagram (hannahbeeolson), you could message me there?!
This is off topic but do you still use The Good and Beautiful? Busy mom of six kids and I am drowning in curriculum and desperately need to simplify.
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to comment! I had to think for a second if we do still use TGTB. Over time, we've ended up shifting away from it (not for any huge or negative reason - we've just found other things that work better for our family and my kids' learning styles and needs). We DO still use TGTB's Handwriting books - I think they do such a nice job and are so lovely! I should probably do a video before long with a curriculum update as to what we're using currently! I can totally see why you would want to simplify! Multiple subjects for multiple kids can really add up in terms of what you have to do every day, too. When I'm feeling like there are too many teacher books/curriculum options floating around for us, I just simplify by leaning on the main subjects we need to work on - math, and reading/writing. Then I cover the other subjects like social studies, science, health, Bible, etc. with read aloud time for everyone or morning basket time. Morning basket has really saved the day for me when I feel overwhelmed and when I wonder how on earth we can get to all of our subjects! I would actually like to do even more with subjects like those, like reading aloud one book to the kids at the breakfast table (apart from morning basket time) and another book (like a biography) at lunch time. Things like that! You probably already do things like that! I'm sorry I can't be of more help regarding TGTB! Thanks for watching, though, and let me know if you have any other questions about things we use!
God bless you! My husband and I may be going into full Time ministry. I need to hear this.

Hi from here in Minnesota! Thanks for the review! Wondering how much you spend a year on the cards? We usually use Spotify podcasts in our quiet time for our four year old so I'm nervous about the cost. Thank you!!
Hi Abbie! Thanks for commenting! I'm glad it was a helpful review for you! I understand your concerns about the cost. I don't have a specific number for you, but we do own lots of Yoto cards at this point! We've added onto our collection a little at a time, and it has helped for me to have referral points to offset the cost. However, you really can spend as much or as little as you want on the cards! Oftentimes, young children love listening to the same stories again and again! The cards are rather pricey, which is why we joined the Yoto Club when we first jumped in, because it offered free shipping (the shipping can cost a bit), plus it was basically 2 free cards per month with that club membership. At this point, Yoto has several tiers of memberships you can choose from. (When we started, we got 2 Club Credits per month.) With their new tiers of membership options, the middle tier is $89.99 per year (paid annually) which comes to $7.50 a month - and that tier of membership gives you 1 Club Credit per month. Cards are usually about 1 Club Credit, sometimes more if it's a bigger story or a pack...but that is a better deal than just buying a $10-12 card, if you're thinking you would like to end up with 12 Yoto Cards by the end of a year! Maybe you could consider doing 1 year of that middle tier membership and then cancelling it after you've gotten 12 cards in 12 months? Lots to weigh, I know - but it has been so worth it to us! Hardly a week goes by without us saying "boy, are we glad we got our kids a Yoto Player!" :) I hope that helps some! We got our son his own Mini Yoto Player when he was about 3 and a half, and he has done so well with it! He's 5 now, and is listening to it during his quiet time right now, actually! :) Let me know if you have any other questions!
Our two youngest kids will be getting the Yoto mini this Christmas! Love your videos! Thank you!
That's so exciting! I hope they love it! Thanks for commenting!!
@@hannahbeeolson loving it! They’ve gone through all of their cards so I’m going to have to order more asap! 😂

Amazing!!❤
Hannah Olson this is my first time watching your video❤
Welcome! Thanks for being here!
Thanks for the review. We homeschool in MN too
And I have a son named Soren as well
It's so fun to connect with other homeschooling families! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! And how fun that you're in MN too!
I just saw this comment, too! Wow! That is so cool to hear!! Love that name! :)
@@hannahbeeolson not sure what area you live in but have you heard of the MN Homeschool Mom Retreat? I host one in SW MN in March and another in NE in the fall. If you're interested I can send you a link.
@@FamilyStyleLearning no, I haven't heard of that! Thanks for letting me know! Sure, I'd love to have info on that! Thanks!
Hi! Does the Yoto Mini come with a starter pack? This is for our 5 year old grandson. Trying to find cards that he will love. Thanks! Karena
Hi Karena - sorry for my late reply!! I think the holiday season just got away from me and I forgot to go back and answer comments in the last month! I don't believe there is a starter pack - sorry I don't have more specific info on that. We absolutely love our Mini Yoto players, though! We've never once wished we had gotten the large size! An option for cards could be to do the middle tier option of their Yoto Club memberships, which is $89.99 per year (paid annually) and that tier of membership gives you 1 Club Credit per month. Just a thought. Either way, I hope it works/worked out for you for your grandson. Such a great gift idea, especially at that age! Thanks for watching!
My seven year old daughter LOVES notebooks!❤
YES! We're pretty notebook-heavy over here, too! :) It's so fun to see what they want to fill their blank pages with!
My almost 10 yr old daughter has loved blank note books for years.
That is so fun! It's funny that a blank notebook could be so well loved, but it's wonderful to see what our children fill notebooks with over the years!
I feel that starting sour dough bread in the oven makes me feel productive while I tidy rooms.
I totally feel that! Sometimes you just have to get the sourdough going to make it feel like things are moving along.
Watching from france. Loved your videos. Thank you
Thanks so much for being here!
I love this Hannah! I wish we were closer so we could be friends! My husband is an eBay reseller too! It has been a fun project for us!
Aww! Thank you, Megan!! That sure would be fun! It’s neat that your husband does eBay reselling!! ☺️
Hi Hannah so is the yoto for the 5 and under crowd? Just wondering if it would detour the older ones from actually reading books. What do you think would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
@@katemiller7874 hi Kate! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Those are great questions. As far as the ‘5 and under crowd’ thing goes, we waited to get our son his own (Mini) Yoto player until he was about 3 or 3 and a half. We wanted to make sure he could be responsible with it, that he could operate the little knobs to start/stop it on his own and put cards in it properly on his own, and also just plain be engaged in listening to it! So around 3 and a half seemed to be the sweet spot for him! And there are some really great Yoto cards for that young preschool age: things like Frog & Toad, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and more! Regarding if Yotos are a deterrent from actually reading books: we haven’t seen any decrease in our children’s interest in actually picking up physical books. They are constantly looking at books they’re interested in! Sometimes they even grab the physical book that we have a Yoto card for (I did make-your-own for Mr Popper’s Penguins, Fables by Arnold Lobel, and My Father’s Dragon, but we owned other books already like Frog & Toad) - and they try to follow along with the story! Our Yoto players get used most during our 2-hour afternoon quiet time for our 7 and 5 year old. They do quiet time in separate rooms so each child has their own Yoto Mini to listen to! We also use Yoto players with headphones for longer car rides. But our kids aren’t walking around the house all day with Yotos in hand and headphones on. Our main parts of the day are filled with hands-on things like crafts, make-believe play, homeschool, and physical books! I hope that helps!
Thank you very much I’ll def pick one up then.
@ I know every family is different, but my husband and I have not once regretted getting Yoto players for our kids! We actually think about it all the time - how glad we are that we purchased them! I have a link in the description box above that’ll get you 10% off if you decide to buy a Yoto!
Sorry for all the comments….lol We LOVE Sneaky Snacky Squirrel!❤
That is a fun one!! I don't mind all the comments :) I'm so glad to hear that so many of these ideas resonated with you - or that you already have them! It sounds like we have a lot in common! Do you have the Sophie's Seashell Scramble game? That's a darling one, too!
We got the Yoto Player for our little ones per your recommendation! Thank you!❤
That is so wonderful!! I hope it is such a blessing and fun addition to your family culture!!
That paint by sticker book looks perfect for toddlers!
I promise this is the last comment…the basketball hoop!👏❤️
I adore those paint by sticker books! I've gone through phases where I was always look for the next one to get, haha! I feel like over time we've really narrowed down the types of sticker books that are feasible and that work well for us! :)
Frog and Toad is amazing!❤
Yes!! And the Yoto card for them is narrated by Arnold Lobel himself - so much fun!
Thank you so much for the ideas. My Eldest is turning 5 next yr February

I love Sandra Boynton for language development, as she has some great vocabulary and rhymes
@@louisacoote2337 yes! She is so clever!!
@@hannahbeeolson I also like that she includes more unusual animals, like armadillos in her stories!
I think the Sandra Boyton book if more for a toddler…
@@aichan4869 Sandra Boynton books are definitely so fun for toddlers, too! But as kids learn concepts of print around the preschool age, it’s fun (and important) for them to predict patterns in stories and even to fill in the blank a bit! I chose that specific story because the turkey is so ridiculous - it cracks our whole family up! But there are some other great books I listed in this gift guide, too, including Arnold Lobel books, and My Father’s Dragon, which is a chapter book! So there’s always a whole range you can choose from, based on the child you’re shopping for. ☺️
@ I was multitasking when I watched this video and when I heard Sandra Boyton, ngl, I went back and checked if I clicked the correct video haha. I totally get your point though why you included it. 😊 Thanks for the recommendations!
That chili recipe looks amazing! I can’t wait to try it. Did you kids pick up on the mushrooms? I love recipes I can hide extra veggies in!
@@katrinakim4145 thank you! And thanks for watching! It really is our new favorite chili recipe! (With those changes I talked about in the video) We’ve also tried it with ground pork but it is much better with ground beef. The kids knew there were mushrooms in it because they walked over to the kitchen while I was chopping them and asked about it, but they didn’t complain about them! The recipe says to mince about half of the mushrooms if I recall correctly, but I basically chop them all up as small as I can. There are definitely some larger mushroom pieces still in there but I think they get disguised by the rest of the chili quite well! I’m so pleased we can sneak veggies like that into chili! (There is also a great Taco Rice Casserole that we all love, that you sneak grated zucchini into! This recipe makes 2 9x13s so you can freeze one! www.eatingonadime.com/taco-rice-casserole-it-freezes-great/)
