Veere I am from South but lived in Ambala due to my dad's army job. Lived in Ambala from 1992 to 1996 aur us waqt Punjab Kesari mein movies ke ad dekhta tha aur Dainik Tribune mein Aaj Ki Filmein column mein kahan kaun si film lagi hoti thi wo dekhta tha. Ambala mein Nigar (the best in the town those days), Nishat, Capital, Novelty and Hari Palace tha while Panchkula mein Suraj aur KC and then 8 in Chandigarh aur 28 saal ho gaye yet I remember the names of all the theatres in Chandigarh. Although I had been to Chandigarh many a times but never watched a film in any of the theatres. But I remember the rush for Karan Arjun at KC in Feb 1995 when I was on one of the trips to the city from Ambala. Ab to shayad koi hi single screen theatre raha hoga Chandigarh mein apart from Neelam. Neelam mein aur Jagat mein zyada badi films nahin lagti thi aur zyadatar badi films Picadally, Nirman, Batra aur KC mein lagti thi and Kiran was dedicatedly showing English films. Dhillon was there but wahan aksar wo films lagti thi jo saath mein aur kisi theatre mein bhi chalti thi like Picadally. DDLJ Dhillon aur Picadally dono mein lagi thi and Karan Arjun ran for many weeks at KC aur later Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai did terrific business at Batra. Yaar aapne nostalgic kar diya. These 8 theatres were still intact even till 2001 AFAIK. Yahan mere shehar Bangalore mein bhi yahi scene hai. Single screens are dying a slow death.
