    Nice tutorial, and thanks for the plugin suggestions! But I faced an issue: When setting a color to the scale, it's not present in any stop on the right-side palette, e.g., if I set #FF4000, this exact same hex does not show up on the palette, only near shades of it

    As a pro-bike, cyclist who is now disabled and in a wheelchair - Don't ride and film. I say this with all due respect and love - It's dangerous and really dumb. Especially if you're not going to wear a helmet. If you want to delete the comment, block me even, okay. But please read and take onboard what I'm saying. I don't want you being injured or worse yet killed because of a behaviour that can be stopped. I'd like to keep enjoying your work. Your bag is design and here you're talking about UX. You fundamentally understand that good design guides, leads and engages a user. It can make the journey worthwhile, captivate. Knowing your audience matters in order to achieve some of this but not all. Knowing that we have fixed attention, how we interact is critically important. Many of these same principles are at work when designing road infrastructure and road safety. Keeping things distraction free, simple and easy to follow, clear layouts to guide: You might think its'a great shot, looks cool, you're saving time riding and filming. I watched you look over your shoulder while still trying to engage with the shot (split attention), possibly not understanding what you were seeing over your shoulder (confused user, split distraction), not looking ahead for extended periods of time (disengaged), go through an intersection without looking to name just a couple of issues (improper use). Peripheral in particular is going to be an issue when riding and recording OR taking a phone call. If someone had walked out you'd of had no time to brake or swerve. If someone on a motorbike had gone through the intersection same thing. Someone in a car and opening the car door - you guessed it, same situation. If you now compound the issue where you're distracted and so is the driver, what do you think will happen? You need to be aware of the road at all times, ahead of you and in your peripheral. It's for your own safety and others. There's loads of research about this. We think we're only looking for a second but we're not. We think we're engaged in the tasks, we're not. And, even in a timed-second the situation can change rapidly. Putting you and your safety at significant risk or worse. www.roadsafetytrust.org.uk/news/top-road-safety-figures-back-open-university-led-research-into-the-dangers-of-hands-free-phone-use-while-driving - 'While hands-free mobile phone use by drivers is not illegal, a vast body of research has shown it is no safer than hand-held phone use'; 'due to the cognitive distraction it causes.' www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1369847821002436 or archive.ph/DLjmh#selection-797.897-797.1046 'mobile phone use while cycling is similar to being distracted while driving a vehicle or walking. Performing other secondary tasks (i.e., distracting behavior) while cycling will distract a portion of cyclists’ attention resources, which in turn will affect the main task of cycling.'; 'Therefore, a distracted cyclist is more likely to have a collision accident when using their phone, and the consequences of accidents can be serious.' Please - please - please. Wear a helmet. Ride undistracted. If for no other reason than you want to keep making vids and enjoying life. Huge hugs.

    Hey so glad I found this channel while looking for component + variable tutorials. Some ideas for future content: 1. Structuring page best practices. Some points I can think of are: How do you structure components libraries when going for an interactive prototype? In some cases if the component is in a different page, not to mention different file, interactions just won’t work. So everything needs to be on the same page and that’s difficult to organise and prettify. A precise example : I have a popup modal with plenty of buttons and options that require a confirmation modal to appear. Since some of the options are drop-downs with their own component + modal set up;variable triggers etc. Now if I want to have a confirmation modal appear when a dropdown option is selected, it’s incredibly difficult to place visually in the original design. Maybe I’m requesting too much from Figma at this point - this might be an edge case. 2. Interview guides and role play are great. Maybe you can go over a few different scenarios- whiteboard challenge/ technical review / take home challenge / team lead meeting. And go over about some frequent questions & best practices - in my last interview I asked the interviewer whether or not they had a design system in place because I love them and think they greatly improve turnover and she asked me what my favourite design systems were - I completely blanked out and couldn’t remember a name for any of my favourites for like three minutes😂

    Contracts are NOT the same as Freelancing in the USA. Why? Freelancing is you directly with the client and you do not get any unemployment. Contract you are hired by middle company to work for the larger company and you can file for unemployment. Freelancing is totally different, it's like Gig work. And it's not the best to do tbh. You are missing more money and harder task to onboard is expected. Fulltime you get more time to onboard you are treated better. Freelancing is the worse. Don't get them confused they are 3 different things legally and functionally.

    Why do you care how a designer use a tool...what a person makes with the tool should be the thing to see.

    • @p44v9n
      @p44v9n 2 місяці тому

      Hey Vivek! I think the end outcome in code is totally important, more so than what happens in a UI design tool like Figma. For solopreneur apps it’s definitely worth focussing on that instead of making sure all your layers are named. However, this video is really aimed at people applying for UX/UI design jobs where they’ll be working alongside a team of designers. It’s so important to have well-structured files when you’re collaborating in a team. And, especially with how competitive the job market is right now I think nailing these things becomes such an important differentiating factor. (A friend hiring for senior product designers in London recently had 400+ applications within 48 hours!) Anyway thanks for watching!

    Hi, thanky you for the tutorial! Could you do show us on how to use advanced prototyping and variables in figma to create form elements? What do I mean are for example text fields that complete when clicked. Also functionality that scrolls us to the next part of the form when we click a "Next" button - is scrolling down to the next section possible with variables? I was also wondering on "disabled" / "enabled" states of buttons - for example button which changes its state from disabled to enabled, but only when the two of the form inputs are filled.

And what about the case where you are doing a survey on mobile - i think in that case you never see a checkbox, just yes/no choices (radio buttons). I hate the idea of a circular checkbox. Why couldn't Apple just fix their software to account for users looking at the corner of a square 😇 or use radio buttons exclusively as i mentioned like a web survey

    Especially appreciate you saying "appropriate use of..." 🙏 it's always best to ground decisions in what makes sense for you, the designer, and the audience on the receiving end of your work (devs, recruiters, PMs). this encourages designers to pause and think about how they can optimize for their audience and not optimize for "so and so from the internet said this is a best practice so i'll roll with it!" 💪

    Incredible guide. One question from me: how do you FIND conferences at which to speak?

    • @p44v9n

      Thanks Gus! So when I started applying I found some lists via Twitter and just searching for 'ux conference + Europe / london,' but now that I know a few different speakers I hear about conferences and call-for-proposal deadlines just from them and other friends! (also, a couple of years ago I spoke at an event that Mr Bingo was at, his list of conferences/meetups is like a dream list of where I'd want to speak. Check it out: mr.bingo/speaking/) It def takes time to research, reach out and apply though - so worth starting as soon as possible if you've got a talk in mind!

      @@p44v9n Wow! This Mr Bingo list is unreal. I've wondered if there is an opportunity for a website that gathers up conferences and makes them searchable by location / focus / accepting proposals / etc. I haven't found one yet but it would be an insanely useful resource to speakers like me and you.
