Not a lot are fitted with pre-heating.

It is idling, but hunting badly around idle RPMs. Class 37s always hunt a bit at low loads, but it is especially bad when the oil is cold as the governor runs on oil.

170s will be on the line aswell when it opens it’s just the driver training will be 158s

These are known as guard rails, they are used in tight curves and other areas to minimise the damage of a derailment in areas of particular risk, such as bridges, and tight curves, near level crossings and stations.

From sources I’ve heard the class 20 will be doing the fife circle too.

@@buses4182 I’ve not heard anything about that. When they were planning the move up to Edinburgh last night they nearly just sent both 20s up to run the train after an issue with the 40 came up, but managed to resolve the issue so the original plan prevailed

@@aarphotos5I was happy to see the class 40 would have been good if the 20 went too but can’t complain as it was a really good day chasing it yesterday.

I was rather impressed by how well the event was run no problems what so ever luckily I had the car to get some footage of the flying Scotsman out with the stations.

I've seen a similar machine to the one shown here, but instead of having the ability to spread out the sleepers before laying them in place, it just put them them all down as a batch, closely spaced, then picked up nos 2, 4 and 6 again, reversed a bit and then set them down in the right place to leave a perfectly spaced batch.

Very slow speed....

The train is able to run at 5 MPH all the way from Thornton to Leven.
