Joe, I stumbled on this video today. I'd like to participate in the 1910 census project. Can I just start linking records? Or do I need permission or direction?

I"m obviously not Joe, but you just start. This is link that will direct you to several projects, including this one and has the the link to the spreadsheet mentioned, if you haven't found it yet: docs.google.com/document/d/1leQEvi7r5TVHNLQOojaeQVhpqfaZ542uaOSdnLovMho/edit,

I have participated in this campaign for several months and I have gained a deeper understanding of individuals who lived, who mattered, and though I don’t know their stories, Others can now find them on the family tree and add their stories. Most of the people I attached to the tree immigrated from Europe. This has given me increased perspective of how I work with and relate, to different peoples.

You invited comments, so here is a way to greatly simplify the process: Why viewing the Fan Chart view of the Tree, click an ancestor and then hover over the 'B' box under "Ordinances"; you will then have the baptism date; combined with the birth and death dates which appear in the pop-up, you can determine if they are one of your convert ancestors. By doing it this way, you can stay on the Fan Chart view the entire time, greatly reduce the complexity of the process, save time, and discover more of your ancestors. If "Ordinances" do not appear when you click on an individual, you may need to enable "View Ordinances" in your account Settings in FamilySearch. Using a printed fan chart is a great addition. Consider using a bright color to highlight the convert ancestors on your printed fan chart. Question: Imagine a tool that will provide a "Convert" view of the Fan Chart? Similar to the "Birth Country" and "Stories" views that are available--I imagine this process could be implemented in software to highlight all your convert ancestors and display them in a single view--any idea who might be working on such a project? Thanks!

A look at the 1910 Census image shows that Dalton was mis indexed as Halton. The person completing the form had a couple different ways of writing "D"s, but if you look at the entry for Dunning, a few rows above the Vinson/Dalton household, you will see the similarity in the letter D. They scribe also crossed their t's with very long strokes. In this case, the long stroke crossing the "t" went through the letter "D", which made it look like an "H". It would be nice if you could correct the indexing of this record. Nice to know that Ancestry was able to find enough similarity in the record to offer it as a hint. Great video.

That is a great comment. I went back to do this and it turns out that FamilySearch hasn't added the feature that allows you to edit the name for the 1910 census. It did have that "edit" button for the 1920 and 1940 census records for Percy.

This is an incredibly valuable project. Dr. Joe Price has developed capability allowing everyone to help connect families in a fast and easy way. You will feel something special about this project. I highly recommend this. You are helping give voice to an ancestor: "I lived!" "I mattered!"
