the raspbery pi 1 is grate! for starters they use less power and yeah they are far from useless . vpn server,sambashare,webserver,stream audio over network or why not a fm radio transmitter so you can tune in with a radio.

Throughout the years I've been flashing OpenWRT on various devices such as TP-Link, D-Link and other named brands. Only in recent time have I begun to repurpose some Terra routers as they are basically x86-64 architecture. Most need a CompactFlash card, and you can easily swap the wireless card and notebook RAM for a long-term use for years to come. I am extremely happy with this strategy. Plus, OpenWRT aso runs in virtual machines with PCIe-Passthrough for PCI-e wireless NICs, such as the Intel AX200NGW which features the latest AX WiFi6 2,4/5GHz fully supported by OpenWRT.

As an access point I mean. You’ll be more than served with a Xiaomi mi router 4A gigabyte for half the price as an access point only.

why did you install openwrt in the first place if you wanted to use this in dumb mode anyway?

Just for information, please be aware that even if the model are the same, there is a model version Archer c6 v4 which is not supported using the tutorial of this video.

if your PC/Laptop has bluetooth support then hold down the share and ps button and then you dont need to use usb.

In case you were wondering if the pi-hole was an option with the very oldest 700 MHz 256 Mb memory B model - it is. I have it running in my home and it works well and these are what pi-hole is reporting at this moment for resource usage: Load: 0.1 0.11 0.13; Memory usage: 25.0 %; Temp: 31.5 °C; I have another of this model and will probably use it as a temp sensor bank for my network closet. These are great suggestions - thanks for the great information and video.
