Eggflation Shocks Americans, Canada Drags on Ag Competitiveness and live from Texas Chuck Charnic...
In this episode of The Food Professor Podcast, Michael LeBlanc and Sylvain Charlebois explore diverse food industry topics. The show kicks off with a conversation about Texas barbecue, featuring Chuck Charnichart, also known as BBQ Rat, the young, award-winning pitmaster of Barb’s BQ. Her journey from working at Texas' top barbecue spots to launching her own critically acclaimed restaurant is highlighted.
The discussion then shifts to economic and trade challenges, particularly rising beef prices. Charlebois explains how droughts, shrinking herds, and producer exits have driven beef prices to record highs, with Canada’s cattle population at its lowest since 1987. Egg prices are also soaring in the U.S. due to avian flu, with millions of birds culled. However, Canada’s supply management system has helped stabilize prices domestically.
The hosts also touch on Amazon’s decision to close its Quebec warehouses, raising concerns about the company's impact on the grocery and retail sectors. Trade tensions between Canada and the U.S. are another key topic, with tariffs, multilateralism, and political uncertainty under scrutiny.
The episode wraps up with lighter topics, including Dubai chocolate, a rising trend in the global confectionery market. LeBlanc praises Canadian retailer Showcase for identifying and capitalizing on this trend early. The hosts reflect on Canada’s position in global agrifood rankings, highlighting issues in food processing, capital shortages, and supply chain inefficiencies.

Thanks for the reviews!
Hey u need better editing If u need msg me
People do not get to decide or not to buy food. When you have an oligopy controling the access the producers have to sell thier product then you have to have an understanding that industry profits and waste need to be stable and the core product afordable. Thrte is already massive government intervention in food via gasolinevand energy inputs for transportation and agriculture. This is greater when you add banking and access to fiat loans. Both eggs and dairy are extreamly regulated because free markets failed to provide food stability in these areas. The question is how to secure the food supply and better impliment public policy that can support the industry to provide food. The critism of central control was the shortages, we are currently facing shortages. If working people do not have food and housing then we are facing the conditions that the soviets were critisized for.
So nobody is actually listening to you loblaw shill?
Good episode.
The Food Professor podcast, I really enjoyed watching this, so I hit the like button!
60k from the weston family foundation in 2018. That's all it cost to buy you?! Lmao your pathetic.
You're a clown bud, How much do you pay Gaelen for protein shots? Shitting on Canadians while you shill for Loblaws 🤡🤡🤡
I saw this coffee on sale and I didn't pick it up. Kicking myself now but I'll get some from Amazon.
We liked the medium - the egg shells make the drinking experience smoother - my Dad used to put egg shells in his coffee and it reminded me of those days! www.amazon.ca/Authentic-Cowboy-Coffee-Medium-Roasted/dp/B079Y9NHP4/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1DPL8MGL8X6LO&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.i1G_ggfMeLS96FXkzGNQ0b57VSpeIFr0UVDzbq8y5V1BnXMIJ4UFHeEEaUrhhUjvv6KTba0B2V8_VA0OdN_nyhcqY6saMG2RJTB4pW_Rxya2w4X-jUl0wJACf5lTRdHSgiLolZQ_0zO3ojv6v8SEXKwIfepbclbQpp8vjE4bL3UR1oZlHs5wdWx6jxO2EkiLdnVfJ0b61rRkdXe1QPQ3qVB4jC5k4k3oM2SfWngNak4TSWLc7NKsGFLHYFhz64cVI4mxwiRwxPbyIWek3CKKfuBeyIav5lIkMMb3gS06kYE.SzYf7jIv8KTfnhOK8FqpC2SNzhi9WcWTRH1Wmpi93WM&dib_tag=se&keywords=cowboy+coffee&qid=1708687959&sprefix=cowboy+coffee%2Caps%2C197&sr=8-2

The great cooks of the past are the only subject worth lionizing today.
does any of the foods with cheese taste like coconut, I'm tired of the vegan dairy food tasting like coconuts, which is a highly saturated fat that is not healthy at all I can't find these products where I live wish I could try some
Longo's is without a doubt one of my favourite places to shop in the GTA.
Great commentary on the frozen food aisle. Completely agree!
your intro of 20 seconds is a bit too long, i thought this was an ad
Fresh vegetables are never worth more than 0.99cents per pound, gasoline for car should never be more than $2/Gallon, a 4 bedroom compressed house should never be over $50,000 ( stands durable for 100 years ), a 2x4 piece of wood should be $1.67 ( for fencing off property ). These are some examples of fairness and equity.
I am late millennial and I know civil war over food is coming! Blood will spill before 2050. I predict before 2030!
The wealthy are sitting ducks! The parasite greedy exploitive wealth class will be given ZERO mercy by hungry masses!
LOVE this! Great podcast - very fun. Kind of like when your friends tell you to try something and then you're automatically suspicious! Just get the "Food Guys" to try it!
Thank you for this video. For scramble 1/3 cup = 1 chicken egg For baking: 1/3 cup = 2 chicken eggs
Can we add milk to it to thin it out?
Love this podcast - fun to see you!!!
Remember, Impossible is targeting their products at meat eaters... rather than trying to put Morning Star Farms out of business. The Whopper comes with Mayo on it (unless requested without it) and their Impossible breakfast sandwich (which I don't know if that has hit Canada yet or not) has cheese and egg on it.
