Love your videos, Really appreciate them! Helps me study for my next ICRM exam. Not sure if you could talk about the different types? Silver Halide, Vesicular, and Diazo? Also, looking good!
Thanks for the shout-out! We're glad you're finding our videos useful. In a few blogs/videos we mention vesicular (related to microfiche mostly) but don't get into much about silver vs diazo. These don't come up much in our work (it doesn't typically affect scanning) and since microfilm isn't being created as much these days, it's not a topic that most folks ask about. But that's good knowledge that you even know what those are 👌🏻 And good luck on your exam!

as you mentioned, there are still organizations that want microfilm for their recordkeeping. Most of the ones that are getting microfilm are doing it because of regulation or statute (such as a state requirement to have an eye-readable copy of the records). could you list some organizations (mainly National Archives) who are doing this and also links to regulations (or countries with such regulations) if possible. thank you.
Hi there, thanks for your comment. Here's a page that lists record-keeping for each state that you might find useful: bmiimaging.com/document-retention-best-practices/
Hi , can share you something about your videos and channel
ok bhai
This is affordable magazine publishing or newspapers for light , clean and increase profit and information integrity..we can use microfilm as small as haft after finger nail on a roll and one month 100 magazine title on one roll easily or 100 e book also possible or video could be stored entire Hollywood all archive in a room size of dining room
I'm thinking about buying a viewer on eBay simply for pleasure and enjoyment. LIKE A BIG KINDLE. That doesn't have the internet, so no UA-cam to get distracted by, but I don't have to bend my neck to look at it. So, if I don't care about the longevity of the files beyond my lifetime, am I able to be a little more lax with any of these rules? Could I store them on my bookshelf next to my other books?
Hi there, how you store your film is up to you - the recommendations here are for long-term storage and to keep the film in as good condition as possible. If your microfilm is OK how you store it, then that works!
OCR should make indexing much easier. You can then use various scraping methods on resulting text.
Correct, OCR can be used to find text and potentially index information, though results from the OCR can be less than stellar. Indexing directly from the record typically gives a more accurate search, but it really depends on the material and the context. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment!
First
Thankyou sir that was a great informative video.
Thank you for the kind words and we're glad you got some useful information!
OF course once again.
1. There are different types of microfilm/microform (microfiche, microfilm, aperture cards). 2. Microfilm can last 500 years (if stored properly)! 3. Microfilm can deteriorate & decay. 4. Microfilm can be scanned into digital images. 5. Microfilm is still being created today. 6. Microfilm is unchangeable. 7. Microfilm was invented in 1839!
I think the pricing portion of the video may be a bit unclear. For example, I have 2 COM type microfiche I want to get scanned. It's a parts book for an old MGB sports car. I emailed numerous companies about getting these TWO microfiche scanned. In your video, you said a general cost for a COM fiche would be $3 - $5 dollars per fiche. No one who quoted me a price was under $400. They all said the same thing - there are setup fees. So, yeah, maybe $3 - $5 per fiche, but PLUS other fees, and the other fees are the primary cost of the process. Even in your video, where you explain the extensive process your company follows to ensure a quality final product, I mean, in my case, two fiche, no one is doing a process like yours for $10.
Hi there, thanks for the note. The pricing is a very general range and for most fiche projects, they're in the thousands to tens of thousands of sheets. But for 2 sheets, you're correct that it'll be hard to find a company to do it for that price (because of the effort that's needed to set up the project).
Thank you, this was very helpful.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Hi Sir may we ask if what is the difference between Kodak 2400DSV-E to microfiche? Thank you.
Hi there, the 2400 is a hardware unit designed to read/scan/print microfiche. Microfiche sheets are the actual units that contain images and and data.
Thanks a lot for this!!! I think you will be interested in "PromoSM"!!
Thanks for watching Leland, glad you found it educational 👍🏼
Another great video! Thank you!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
awesome video! Thank you so much! I'm preparing for my CRM exams, and wanted to understand more about digital imaging. I didn't really understand hollerith, but your video was very helpful! :D
Appreciate you letting us know, and great to hear that it helped!
Excellent! Thanks.
You're welcome! Appreciate you watching our video.
Thanks for the video! Besides storage - how one handles the film is very important. Avoid touching the images on the film with ungloved fingers as you will leave fingerprints on those images from the oil on your fingertips. Wear white cotton gloves to avoid those issues.
Appreciate the comment! We've worked on plenty of projects where white gloves are required, always makes it more interesting.
thanks
I wish all videos I've been looking where explained in so much detail 👍 good job bro
Thanks for the kind words, Aloiz. Glad you found the video useful!

I just bought a used Canon PC80 Microfilm Reader labeled as "broken" on auction. It could be a bad projector bulb, or the printer may need a new ink cartridge. I have bought used ones in the past to strip the optics. I will attempt to fix this one and maybe I will resell it or maybe I will begin a microfilm scanning service. I have not seen it yet, but I bid a buck and with tax and fees, the total was $1.20. I have to drive 60 miles round trip to pick it up. Thank you for posting "7 Things..."
You're welcome, Rob. Hope the PC80 works out and we're glad you enjoy our videos!
The US census returns were microfilmed about 1949. These were used by the Social Security Administration to validate hundreds of supercentenarian cases in the US around 2003. It was a great idea, but some false cases such as Lucy Hannah (1875?/1895-1993) slipped through.
I used to know how to Use microfiche when I was 16 years old back in 1982 at Alameda Naval Air Station in Northern California.
Hey Danny, glad that our video conjured up some (hopefully happy!) memories of using microfiche. It's definitely come a long way since 1982.
@@thedigitalimagingchannel yes sir thank you 😊🙏👍
Can we have colored micro films ?
John, you may want to reach out to our team by emailing info@bmiimaging.com to chat about your records. It sounds like you have a few questions that they could help with.
Can you suggest any microfilm printer ?
Hi John, we mention a few in another of our videos here: ua-cam.com/video/JjhWWt58D6I/v-deo.html. You might want to check out scanning your microfiche, depending on your situation (we cover that in the video, too!).
Thanks! Helpful and simple
You're very welcome and thank you for the comment.
So, i would ask ur opininion about should we still microfilming the archives n newspaper or better we digitizing them?
Ahmad, great question. The answer will depend on the goals of your organization and if you believe it's useful and necessary to continue to keep hard copy microfilm of your archival newspaper records. Digitization does allow improved and more efficient access to your records if that is what you're trying to accomplish. If you'd like some more information, please send an email to info@bmiimaging.com and we can discuss the topic in more detail. Thank you!
Thank you so much for putting the information in lucid manner.
Thanks for the comment, Mohan, we're glad you found it useful!
