It was indeed 398 yen! I didn't think about it until now, but i tried googling the words on the packaging and it seems to be high end crabstick (fish meat basically) but it was really good 🤣

here's my tldw about uji: 1. the "honten" or main shop teahouses are further from the tourist areas and thus less crowded 2. if you want to go into the byodoin phoenix hall, be prepared to queue and wait for the periodic tours 3. there honestly isn't super much to do and half a day will probably suffice! about nara: 1. i think 2 days is just about right 2. mount wakakusa is actually quite physically demanding, don't hesitate takings breaks halfway up the steps! 3. the todai-ji is arguably the main attraction here, so be prepared for it to be flooded with tourists if you're not coming right at opening time 4. obviously, don't mess with the deer, and don't litter! they will eat all your trash like paper cups, wrappers, etc. !

here's my tldw about chamonix: 1. if you want to live in a cottage/mazot like this, you have to book well in advance as they are quite rare and in-demand. ours was tiny 2. the river is actually really dangerous, don't mess around anywhere near it. sadly, a woman and her dog was consumed by it during our week there. i've heard the skiing there isn't a walk in the park too, and lots of people routinely underestimate the hazards of the mountain and need to be evacuated by helicopter 3. during off-peak (non skiing season), the ropeway passes can be bought for cheap online!

If you're interested in nearby shirakwawago: ua-cam.com/video/oxAQWjXyjTs/v-deo.html here's my tldw about takayama: 1. level of tourism is not excessive 2. definitely try hida beef while you're here, either at a restaurant or cook it yourself if you have a kitchenette at your hotel 3. Center 4 Hamburgers is incredible, make reservations if you're keen 4. the walking trail is fun with signs in english. if there's a stamp rally going on, do give it a go too! 5. it does get very quiet at night, with little to do, which can be a good thing if you're headed here from a city 6. make sure you have the right shoes if you're in the snowy season, especially if you're headed up the castle ruins! saw some people attempt it with sneakers, it can end really badly!

here's my tldw about shirakawago: 1. it does get quite crowded, especially if you're not here before the first bus (i.e. stayed the night before here or have own transport) 2. it does snow hard, but that's the beauty of it, so make sure your shoes are good for it because you don't wanna slip and fall! 3. food choices at night are VERY limited, so plan in advance if you're staying the night get something instant/microwavable 4. the open air museum does feel quite authentic, but everything was in japanese so be ready to use google translate camera 5. there are people living in many of these houses, so don't be a nuisance to them! 6. if you have the time, i highly recommend the onsen, especially on a snowy day.
