While spending a very unexpected week in St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, I accidentally came across this delightful film "on demand", and watched it twice a day. As compared to that intolerable "Being The Ricardo's" or the confusing "Elvis", this heartwarming movie literally made me both happy and feel well sooner. Apparently, there's an earlier version starring Angela Landsbery (sp?), which I would also love to see. Thanks again for your excellent, sweet review... 😘👍

This was a lovely review presentation of one of my favorite books, and favourite couple, I love Dexter and Emma it broke my heart how Emma ended, I agree the book is better but so to me is Netflix version

I would recommend the remake version from 2000 ua-cam.com/video/_ljkeFwN8Ig/v-deo.html personally they done a good job yes jenny agutter is the mother in this instead of the young girl. I love the classic as i was a kid in the 70's myself when i watched the classic and it captured the charm of it as well. This adult male parent enjoyed the acting and found the film very funny. However, although it stuck to the gist of the true story, having read up about it, the film makers did play a little fast and loose with the script and the casting.

I loved this book! A mixture of The Talented Mr. Ripley and David Mamet’s The Spanish Prisoner.

The accent is irrelevant to international viewers. Without a big named actor it may not have attracted the audience it did as a film so I think AH was a great choice. This book is so cleverly disguised as a growing friendship story. To not address this aspect of the book in any review is disappointing.

I think you have missed the conceit. Ayoade hated the film. It's an extended joke about what he considers a bad film.

Thank you for your review, Catriona. I enjoyed this film, and was happy to catch it on streaming. It gave me definite "Breakfast Club" meets "Dead Poets Society" vibes. All three actors were wonderful to watch together, with Dominic Sessa shining in his big screen debut. Da'vine Joy Randolph was effectively vulnerable as a grieving mother, and will definitely scoop up that Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Paul Giamatti was as engaging as ever, and if Cillian Murphy doesn't win Best Actor, I hope that he does. You can't help but wonder what became of the protagonists afterwards, and it really feels as though it was made in the early 1970's.

The release of this movie has been so strange. It should have released world wide in early December since it could be a new Christmas classic.

Definitely a feel good film

Absolutely love the series. However, I’m on the 4th book now and was thinking it could be less repetitive. I’m getting tired of the way Samson is treated and Delilah acting like a spoilt kid. Hope Julia will be able to get the books adapted into a TV series. Get Clive Standen as the protagonist, make the senior citizens a big part of the series and you’ll have a winner; better than Midsomer. However, no one is going to touch it without major editing.
