There was sixty-eight seconds of introduction and the thirty-five seconds and finger excercises (i.e. NOT "tuning up" ) before the air was played and afterwards there was further forty five seconds of tuning. Not bad at all for Pipe Major MattMacIsaac, this year's winner of the Pipe-Major Alasdair Gillies Memorial Recital-Challenge!
"Cearcall a Chuain" , (1:43-3:12) is a Gaelic song written by Calum and Ruaraidh MacDonald, and recorded by Runrig, The Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir and by Cathy Anne MacPhee.
Quite rare to see a piper just strike up and play, and then for the tone to hold throughout the entire performance. For me, it really lights up when Matt hits the rounds reels and jigs. Truly exemplifies his accuracy in fingerwork
Awesome playing! I saw Matt play with Natalie MacMaster a few years ago, and was just blown away....btw: what is the name of the tune he plays after Donald MacLeod? Anyone...anyone...Ferris...Ferris....
Great playing but 4 minutes of tuning in front of an audience is deadly.

Pretty standard for high level contests.
Any body know his set up?
What was the air in the warmup
