You always have to be planning at least 3 steps ahead and have a strategy in mind. For instance, min 2, you buy smoke, smoke arrives and you pull the lane so your offlaner can safely lane, min 3 - you back off to somewhere where enemy has no vision of you and smoke your self, pick up bounty, min 3:30 you ping your midlaner and head for mid and wait for enemy mid to be out of position, min 3:40-4:00 you successfully either killed or assisted against enemy mid because they headed for the water rune or were on your side of map
