Our hunter-gatherer ancestors were integrated with and worshipped Nature.
Our early agricultural ancestors built the First Temples to worship the many Gods.
Our later agricultural ancestors built the Second Temples to worship the One God.
Our industrial ancestors built the Third Temple in the name of rationality and progress.
Many alive today built the Fourth Temple for the values of peace, sustainability and inclusion.
Each of these were the most useful worldview to meet the conditions of their times. We MUST remember the wisdom of each. AND, none of them are equipped meet the huge problems our species are facing today.
We need a new story. We need a Fifth Temple.
I’m Ari Ātash, and I am playing towards this new story with my friends as well as my elders in the Integral Theory / Metamodernism lineage. I am also a student of the sacred mushroom. I’m sharing some conversations and learnings on here as I go. Welcome!

This is a collaboration post with Tucker's podcast "Illuminating Life"!: illuminatinglife.transistor.fm/episodes/the-5th-temple-with-ari-nazem In the middle of a flowing conversation, Tucker asked if we should just record and share what we were playing with. This is the result! The major topic is my concept of the Fifth Temple, which is the emerging layer of culture on the planet which is also ...

Here is a link to a digital version of the whiteboard (updated as of Jan 2023): bit.ly/ancestorstorywhiteboard The background of this video is that I was catching up with my friends the Fio Bros in October 2023 at their office in NYC when we started getting into my work on The System. One thing led to another, and soon enough Mike had set a camera up, they had graciously cleared their schedule ...
I would love to speak with you sometime. Many of your concepts I have heard echoed from the past in philosophers such as Terence McKenna. It must be the mushroom that causes this thought process to mature in the minds of men.
You're hired. Now go get famous and stay humble.
A lot to digest but explained quite well given the depth of research behind these ideas. Do you have any book recommendations to better understand the foundations of the 7 Intelligences? Also is there a specific Ken Wilber book that best explains Integral Theory? Thank you for sharing all of this I definitely would like to begin incorporating this framework of living into my current experience. Looking forward to hearing more about states and types
Thank you for watching and engaging bro 🙏🏽 This framing of humanity's multiple intelligences emerging in 7 stages of biological evolution is my own, and unique to the Ancestor System. You can read more about my framing of them on the Wiki here: wiki.ancestor.earth/Intelligences For the idea of multiple intelligences more generally, there have been various conceptions of it in most cultures dating back thousands of years, but recently, Harvard's Howard Gardener made some waves with the idea in his 1983 book "Frames of Mind." My conception of the intelligences differs a good amount from Gardener's, as it comes down from the Integral Theory framing of it, outlined in Ken Wilber's work (like in Integral Psychology). Wilber uses Gardener's work to advocate for thinking in this way, though. The main influence for Ancestor's 7 Intelligences (besides my own direct experience and lived research) was Jung, who had his own idea of 4 "functions" (which is what the Myers-Briggs test is based on) which he outlines in his book "Psychological Types." My 7 intelligences are basically finer distinctions of the same basic categories. A good video on his framing is: bit.ly/3Z25DBh For Integral Theory, I would start with the book "A Brief History of Everything." Its a more condensed and readable version of his magnum opus "Sex, Ecology, Spirituality," which is worth saving until you're a bit warmed up. "Integral Psychology" is probably the best second book to read, as it zooms into the Mind (or the interior of the individual, or "Upper Left Quadrant" in IT terms) and presents a unified theory of psychology that is really second to none. If you're still interested after that, then "Sex, Ecology, Spirituality" is worth diving into and really understanding as it lays out the core of the theory in vivid detail. Alternative to reading, Wilber's audiobook / interview series "Kosmic Consciousness" is a great way in that covers most major things, and gives you a sense of the man as well: a.co/d/g6joLPb. I am also planning to make videos soon explaining mainline Integral Theory, so look out for that. And soon also the rest of the Ancestor stuff!
Yes to community building and lived friendships relaxing the tendency towards elaborate individual model building! 🙌👏🙌👏
Yes! I think this is one of the big shadows of our movement at the moment. Less building our own castles in the corners of the room with proprietary pieces, and more playing in the center of the room together with standard-issue parts. And shifting the focus to building something real and tangible now that we have the territory mapped a bit...
Around 1:14 actually I think that the artists are out front of the philosophers in a lot of cases, but because they don’t initially engage with the new intellectual formalisms being articulated, they are the forest that is missed for the trees.
I see what you're saying for sure. The Romantics and even the Gothic Literature homies seem to have predated the postmodern philosophers in their critique of modernity and their desire to reintegrate with nature and the unseen. AND It seems to me it was a different group of artists AFTER the philosophers that spread the postmodern message to the masses. So Both / And.
Halfway through and loving this conversation! Here is the last teaching of one of my teachers also talking about the idea of a fifth temple, albeit in a very different context. ua-cam.com/video/zwuSrhjtn2A/v-deo.htmlsi=C1akdIcJL09sS-uB
Correction - at 3:13 I didn't say the Animist thing right. Santa Claus would be a First Temple belief (not an Animist one) as he is an archetypical deity like Thor or Anubis or Zeus. Animism is the idea that the actual natural things themselves - the literal rock, the literal river, the literal tree - have spirit and are alive, NOT that there is some archetypical god that rules over them like Posideon does over the sea in the Greek First Temples. Animism means the literal sea is alive, is conscious - that's it. There is no "God of the Sea" that is distinct from the literal, physical sea in Animism. These sorts of disembodied archetypical forces begin to be worshipped in the First Temples, starting after the invention of agriculture. It is the Animist view I am saying is biologically native to homo sapiens with no outside mental training required, for at least the last 50,000 years since we became behaviorally modern, when we gained a huge cluster of upgrades to our biology and psychology I call gaining the 7th chakra (more on this soon, check out the "Upper Paleolithic Revolution" for the scientific explanation). Deities like Santa Claus come LATER as a cultural software update on top of the SAME modern human biological hardware, at the earliest maybe 12,000 years ago with the start of agriculture, but more likely something like 5000 years ago with the start of the Bronze Age proper. Now I can sleep.

It was incredible to spend this time with you Ari -- the Playroom will continue to grow and develop, but there will always be something special about this video, bare bones, in the thick of it, just trying to make sense of heads and tails.
