Bro!!! This is amazing
Super nice build even compared to the metal kit ones. Excellent work.
@@NefariousElasticity thank you for the comments!
One of the best r2 d2 build I’ve watched 👍❤️🙏👋
@@dewback1975 thank you so much!
Looking VERY cool! But have to ask: how much of this will be AI?
This is most excellent! Did you use entirely pla plus, was the base color for the body white, did that cause challenges in being able to see sanding marks vs black or grey? Im going to do this build have 3 printers rn and starting out too, i originally wasnt going to paint anything just going with blue/grey/white but now i might be second guessing that (or is it too rough looking without sanding/paint). Did you spray the body after it was together i assume? I've estimated i could probably print the entire structure day and night in about 8-12 days with my equipment (p1s, qidi 4 plus and neptune 4 max).
Thanks Marc! So believe or not R2 is mostly printed in PLA. I started using PLA+ after the price started to drop in 2019. Thats kinda of the reason I call this my Experiment. The base body color was printed in white. I didn't notice any issues sanding, only that there was a lot of it! I did spray the body after it was together. I used a cheap palm sander on most parts but you definitely have to be careful or you will burn through the plastic. I'm going to try a Chopper or Mouse Droid next. I still have the old (old, lol) CR10 but I am picking up a P1S soon. We have a Sovol SV8 at work and the print speeds now a days are insane compared to my printers from 5 years ago.
@@KevinFlynn1967 ah very nice ok, yeah good to know on the burn issue. I picked up a "foot sander" to hopefully making sanding easier on projects but i guess you have to watch out. I guess if the price difference is small between pla and pla plus, maybe ill still do pla. Any issues with your pla per say? is it white at its base i assume?
@@markm75 I haven't had any problems with printing most of this project in PLA, but now that better filaments are much easier to print, I would probably go with PLA+ at a minimum. If I remember right I did 30% infill and 4 walls min. on most parts. I tried to print most of the parts in the colors they would be but it's really not necessary. After sanding you should be priming before painting, and with the dome I did primer, gloss black and then the silver to make it look more like aluminum. I'm curious to start working on a Chopper build out of ABS. I think if any of the newer printers print ABS the way with the ease that I've heard I might go back and redo the legs in ABS but for now he's doing fine as is.
@@KevinFlynn1967 i thought about abs for my new big builds like this, i even had an exhaust arrangement ready to attach, but i can only make that work on 2 of the 3 printers. I thought with the bondo + primer filler method it might not be too bad with pla/pla+, who knows, yeah i've heard abs is easier. Chopper would be #2 on my list, actually i was thinking of doing the battle droid first and maybe just straight beige and no painting, then move onto r2.
Great sharing:)wondering if our service(pcb/3dp/cnc) could contribute to your project! we would like to have a partnership with u:)
Good video 😁, I am building one here too at the moment, just navigating through all the needed parts and the various iterations that others have added is confusing lol.
Looking awesome so far
The funny thing around this is that the original one, was a guy inside moving the parts :D
Thanks for the video. I will rewatch several times I am sure while I build my own R2D2. I would be cool if future videos cover less but with more detail. I am sure we would love to hear a cost breakdown also.
Wow amazing job, you should sell them on line
Awesome!!!!!
just found you! looking forward to future updates!

Man this is amazing! I’m building the Fanhome r2 myself
Woohoo welcome to our eartg, R2 wow but i can't wait for reality with lightsabers and real spaceships of Star Wars
Cool man
awesome build😍😍😍
Love this little robot!! Would like to collab with you, just wondering how can I contact you? Thanks! Sienna from PCBWay
Brilliant stuff Kevin! 👍I must say, I always wanted to keep my R2 build as simple as possible and admire builders such as yourself that really go all in, but seeing & hearing that high voltage hair curler / heart jammer in operation had me salivating. I can't wait to see what your creative ingenuity comes up with. Appreciate your shoutout to Michael Baddeley; the amount of work and time he has put into his designs for all of us to enjoy is phenomenal.
I tried to search for the R2 files but could not locate them. Do you have the files that you used available? I so want to build R2. Wish I could find a C-3P0 as well
Hi James, the files are generously free by the creator, Mr Baddeley, on his site. www.patreon.com/mrbaddeley/about please consider joining his patreon if you do download and print his files. His work is amazing
@@KevinFlynn1967 Thank you. Will be donating!
Cuanto tiempo lleva para hacerlo?
great job!
Are you going to be sharing the files once done?
Yes, Once I finalize everything I will definitely share the files. I want to make sure everything fits and works properly
Hey, will it fit the version 3 body? Thanks.
Nice updates Kevin! Thanks for sharing your good ideas; love the periscope idea and looking forward to seeing that if you decide to post any videos on that part of the build process. Also appreciate the kudos, same back your way. As you know, yours was the first video I watched and re-watched many times that inspired me to give a 3D printed R2 build a go.
Thanks so much John! It really was your videos that got me back into working on R2 and doing some updates. I can't wait to show everyone my upcoming ideas and projects
Could you please tell us 3d printer's specifications to build this model?
I primarily used a CR10S from Creality dimensions are 300x300x400mm. I also used a scratch built Prusa clone 200x200x250mm.
Awesome job!
Thank you very much!
Great work
This is amazing
Can u turn this into a rotary fridge
Wow! What an amazing result Kevin. Congratulations!
do you have to split the dome files yourself? I only see the full dome print in mrdaddely files
He had plans for 6 piece dome plus 2 top pieces. I haven't been up to date on what he has lately.
I’ve ordered a 3D printer, obvs I’ll start with small projects like rebel rank badges, then blasters, then helmets. But ultimately I’d like to build an R5.
I lied, I went straight to building an R5.
Same ..I'll start r5 soon ..got a r2 unit
lol, its quite the addiction!
my brother is actually doing this build and is taking him a very long time but this is like the best thing i have ever seen anyone do with a 3d printer and is part of the reason i purchased a printer.I will get around to doing this build someday.Nice job man.
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
You are a god!!!! congratulations...I´m an Electronics Engineer from Mexico...and you work its really amazing!!!! Your hardware selection is the best...
Thank you! There are times when I got frustrated, but it's a great project in the end
That's pretty impressive, considering it's all 3D printed. R2 turned out amazing! Well done!
Thank you very much!
Bravo! Some day I will start this! Tremendous!!!
Thank you!
Shame you never made a follow up on this
Working on some follow ups now that I've moved my life to Florida, Thank you for the comment and the inspiration to put more videos together
Amazing 👍
greetings I would like to know if you have a private email that you can send me since I would like to ask you a question. thank you
The Force flows very powerful in you !
It's absolutely phenomenal. Thank you for sharing this incredible project. Your way of describing the project build is very articulate and professional. Looking forward to more of your work. You're truly an inspiration.
Oh man thank you for your kind words!
It looks so good. Excellent job!! I may have missed it in your explanations of everything, but how much filament was used to print this project?
I wished I kept track of the filament I used. If I guessed it was between 20 - 30 rolls.
trying to the electronics for my dome is gonna be a nightmare as I have no experience in doing this, just 3d printing ahah. how did u learn to do the electronics
I have a degree in digital electronics, but if you take your time and put in the effort anyone can do this. I'm still learning everyday.
My god!!! 😮❤❤
Look like you have a good friend! R2 D2 the best friend in the universe of the planet 🌎 Super Cool
Thank you! It has been a lot of fun
Excelente trabajo. Pero no tengo impresora. Vendes las piezas sin pintar??
I love how simple your electronics set up is.
Phenomenal
i myself is a help with mr braddely ive got the dome all done printing wise and started on the body but cant find some of the parts like grabe arms and the doors that are on the body any help would be great
