you got off easy.
Come on, interviewer. Don't you know you're speaking to the genius who penned the lines "you hit me with a flower," "I wanna be black," "I am the table," and "Miss Murphy had a cat/On her lap it sat/And once in a great while/It looked like that Cheshire cat did smile?" Show a little reverence, damn.
I fail to see any catastrophe here. Lou was only compassionate and patient with a young interviewer clearly well out of his depth, a rare thing for a man rarely, if ever, cited for his warm kindness toward journalists and fans. If anything, he seemed more amused than annoyed by the young man's unveiled ignorance of his career and music, a frank, genuine spirit of honesty Lou rarely encountered when being interviewed that softened his brittle facade just a bit. As far as catastrophic interviews go, this doesn't even rank in the top fifty!
Wow the pigs wnglish
In the future I hope they educate the children with Lou reed instead of Shakespeare. One love
Lou could've learned a little from Iggy and David about being kind and open in interviews.
I like Lou Reed’s music and the Velvet Underground. But the guy was a complete knob end. bitchy, full of his own importance, awkward as fuck, typical celebrity.
The inimitable Lou Reed. This interview was like watching a cat play with a mouse.
Lou Reed is so funny!
It's all about honesty and lack of bs, that wins respect. It works both ways. Lou thrives on ambiguity but would never admit it.
keep returning to this
How smug.
Lou and Bob dylan only do interviews where they can be as obnoxious and cryptic as possible and making the interviewer feel like he or she has no right to even speak to them.
March 2000 interview with Niklas Kallner
He wasn't too rough on the guy. He knew he was nervous because of Reeds reputation. Its not surprising he was a bit rough around the edges. His parents made him do electro shock therapy, he was publicly known to live a " controversial " life style. Probably got sh@t from people all the time. You get pushed enough, at some point you start pushing back and he just didnt take sh@t from anyone. Grew up in NY in the 60s an 70s ffs.
The questions could't be worst and boring... The guy was so scared of being in front of Reed (who couldn't believe how akward the situation was). Still, Lou had a lot of patience and was nice to the guy
What a creep Lou Reed was being to this kid. Lou had some deep anger issues, clearly.
Well Lou was known to be kind of a rude, no-nonsense guy (he is from New York after all) there are always unforseen effects from situations. If he would have simply given bland freindly responses no would even remember this interview. But now, this poor schmuck (the interviewer) will live forever on the internet. This will be his claim to fame; he can get drunk years in the future and look at it to amuse himself.
'But Nicholas...' hahaha, I think he really quite liked this Swedish interviewer. That's the best Lou Reed interview I've seen.
Everyone assumes about Lou Reed's demeanor and just thinks he is some kind of uptight jackass, he is in fact an intellectual and passionate about music. It isn't always about the music as it is about pretentious artists and their hollow opinions. Edit: I would have loved a cup of coffee with Lou if to simply discuss his honest thoughts on Madonna and Oasis. lmao
You gotta have thick skin with Lou lmfao
I love Lou but I don't want to talk to him. I'd just feel like everything I'm saying is stupid and I should just shut my mouth lmfao
What a gentleman lou was. Such patience for a journalist with little knowledge. What a guy !! Rip
pompous ass
I've come to understand Reed's interviews better now knowing that he had a really dry sense of humor and was not trying to be abrasive but humorous in his answers. People who knew him personally were quite aware of this.
A rare man there. I wish we had a new lour reed for this dumb society.
I miss Lou.
The kid is 22 years old and probably knows little about Lou reed.
Lou was a prick. Hands down.Maybe that was his rock star facade. My brother saw Lou at a restaurant in cleveland right before he passed. He was in town getting a kidney transplant although we didn't know it at the time. He snapped a picture of him. Lou looked so sick. I think he passed several months later.
He was better at being a prick than a musician.
My God. I would have stayed up all night having a drink and smoking a bit with Lou, question after question making him recall decades of Rock History. smh March 2nd 2024
Such a treasure
Nicholas brother you did so damn well
Lou Reed had anxiety for most of his life and he had a real distaste for interviews that asked questions about his identity and conduct rather than his art. I think a little bit of research would’ve helped Nikolaus here but I don’t believe Lou was that contemptuous here. I think he was kind of charmed by Nikolaus’ inexperience and naïveté. Sometimes, I suspect, celebrities just want to treated like normal people.
lmao
who did he meet
I thank God, I walked the Earth the same time as Lou Reed🖤
Best interview in the world! 😂❤
& as always Lou Reed is a ......bore.
I would’ve spent 30 min talking about the big sleeo
Actually Lou is calm and cordial. He usually rips people in a passive aggressive way. He is hilarious and I love Lou’s style.
Insulting, disrespectful & stupid to interview anyone famous your clueless about w/out pre-reasearch. Your wasting the 'on the road' persons time- they could use to unwind.
I'd previously read that he was nasty and cruel in this interview. Now I've watched it I can see he was simply teasing the interviewer, he was actually quite good natured I thought. And I'm English!
How can you interview a living legend without familiarity of his work, music & ideas. I think Lou was bemused & took pity on him. I think it was a backhanded compliment to exclude him from his loathing of journalists because he isn't one, he is an inept kid. There was no imagination, there are so many questions you could ask.
I think interviewing Lou Reed would be risky because he is an introvert, but very intelligent man and writes great lyrics/melodies. The proof is in his worldwide hits that a lot of people love, he’s lyrics can be twisted and full of riddles so this would be the same in his interviews because that’s how his mind works so I don’t think there is any judgement here, I love the man for his music, if you’re interviewing him You may be heading into bad territory and more than likely will not work out unless you are totally prepared and know all his history and where he’s been and what is actually doing so preparations for a journalist to do his job properly will have to be thoroughly prepared. I love watching those interviews, I think this journalist is not up to Lou Reed’s thinking, he is quite shallow m, immature that’s why lou plays with them….
I thought Lou was very sweet. The interviewer should look back on this with joy and pride. Did a good job.
Another clueless youtube loser - 404 subs after over 12 years! LOL! Right now he's back at his job on the sanitation trash pickup route! Lou blew that slug right out of the water! Yippie!
All these comments praising the abrasive persona of Lou Reed in other interviews. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Then you womder why celebrities are so arrogant. You the fans encourage them to be like that. Punk rock amd gangster rap are especially the worst enablers of egocentrism.
Worst interview ever, of one of the greatest artists, ever !
Louis Rabinowitz is greatly over rated.
U probably like phil collins more,
This is the most beautiful interview. Niklas, you got two instalments of Andy Warhol's 15 minutes of fame, and you aced Lou Reed. 🥝✔️
