    These are so pretty. I love them. I have a question. I have made polymer clay trinket dishes 2 times and they are not getting hard. My 2nd attempt I baked at 275 for 1 hour and 15 minutes and it's still a little pliable. What could I be doing wrong?

    Thanks for this helpful video. I didn't know about Liquid Leaf, so I will definitely try that out. A safety tip I learned when using polymer clay- any tools used with clay shouldn't be used for food prep, so the outside of the measuring cup is probably fine, but the one where you put the clay inside should be used only for clay projects.

    Hi, just found this video and its really helpful. I have a question, can I use gold acrylic paint for the edging?

    • @TimberandChain
      @TimberandChain 8 місяців тому

      Hi! You can. It will be a dull gold, though. If you already have the gold acrylic paint, maybe try it on a small edge and see if you like it. The liquid gold leaf is SUPER metallic and shiny because it's lacquer-based, which is the look I wanted. I also feel the paint is more watery, so you'll need multiple coats as the clay will show through the sheerness of the paint. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    • @TimberandChain

      Hi there. You can use any oven-safe dish or bowl. These are ceramic cereal bowls from Anthropologie and I use them because they have all chipped and cracked. Literally all of them. And I only have a few left, so I don't use them for eating anymore. My favorite dishes to use are the bottoms/outsides of the new pyrex measuring cups for ease but they are not as rounded as the interior of bowls. Hope that helps!

    I found the best way to deal with the Opal is to cut it up - a grater works well - mix with some translucent liquid clay, mixing and mixing and you'll end up with opal that acts like 'normal' clays.

    Could you bake the flowers separately and add them afterward?

    • @TimberandChain
      @TimberandChain Рік тому

      Absolutely. Gorilla glue would probably work best. The flowers would only need to bake for 15 minutes. I’ve also baked the bowl for 30, then added the flowers with liquid sculpey, and baked again for 15.

  • @sabrinadoumet6198

    I will attempt this but I am curious to know why did you drill the hole after the clay was baked as opposed to just poking holes when the clay was still soft…

    • @TimberandChain
      @TimberandChain Рік тому

      You can totally poke the holes before baking. I’ve done that and I prefer the uniformity of the drilled holes after baking versus the holes that can distort with the slightest movement pre- or during baking. If you can keep them still and straight, you might like that better.

    I would not recommend Sculpey lll for this project as it is way too brittle after baking. Sculpey Premo or Sculpey Souffle would be a more durable option.

    • @TimberandChain
      @TimberandChain Рік тому

      I do say that in the description. When Sculpeyiii is mixed with Premo or soufflé or other versions, it turns out great. I wouldn’t use it alone as it will bubble when baked and eventually crack. But the beige is completely different in the Premo, and the Sculpeyiii is this amazing peachy beige color, so I use it in marbling. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    • @TimberandChain
      @TimberandChain 2 роки тому

      Hi! Those little papers come with the gold leaf sheets and are tucked between each one. It does stick, for sure, but this cutting mat was worse. 😆 Parchment paper works just ok, but now I use a silicone mat that doesn't stick AND you can bake right on it.

      Hi there, and thanks for watching. I’m using one that I would not recommend. It’s the same one that Michael’s and hobby lobby carry. I’m planning on purchasing one that’s a little better. The handle on mine isn’t attached and falls off constantly, and the plastic bolt on the clamp broke so I can’t secure it to the table anymore. Definitely check out reviews before buying.

    Your work is beautiful and I’m very glad to have stumbled across your videos. I typically do more caning than sculptural pieces and it’s got me considering other options. I’ve got to say however that your not altogether correct about Kato Polyclay. Kato is actually a very high quality clay. It’s designed to be firmer. Donna Kato is a magnificent artist and she designed the clay more for jewelry pieces and caning. Yes it does smell like vinyl and it it is non toxic. I actually love the smell, it reminds me of being a little girl and getting a brand new doll (gotta log some nostalgia) lol I always try not to mix my Kato and premo because Kato bakes at 300. I recommend researching the clay before purchase to see if it is actually going to work well for your design needs. The thing about polymer clay is that one size does not fit all.

    • @TimberandChain
      @TimberandChain 2 роки тому

      Such great info! Thanks for taking the time to watch and reply. Good to know about Kato. You’re the 3rd person who has made a comment about the doll. 😆I’ll think of that next time. I purchased it during the time everyone was out of everything, so it was my only choice to mix. You’re so right, they’re definitely not the same.

    Why not put holes in before baking why drill risk breaking

    • @TimberandChain
      @TimberandChain 2 роки тому

      You could do that. It’s definitely cleaner to drill after baking. When you drill before baking, the hole can move or swell a little and make it difficult to put the string through it.

      Hi there! I use a clay roller and stack 3 layers, then roll gently to combine. The key is to bake for 45 minutes, not the recommended 15, or they'll be rubbery. Baking for 45 minutes ensures that they'll be unbendable. Thanks for watching.
