Vintage exhaust fan spotting II
Noisey old broan branded restroom ventilator seen in an old office building, the fan itself sounds fine but apparently it's blades are hitting something up there like the ductwork or shroud.
Potentially I'll offer them for me to fix it.

Apologies for the rushed video, crunching time. I've always enjoyed visiting the junkyard, but I've never thought to record what I find when there looking around. I at least got to capture vids of each of the "Big 3" (The only manufacturers that matter)

That motor has a grinding sound that is not right!!!!!
I loved my Wind Machine until it started running at about half-speed all the time , on all three settings. Replaced the capacitor and it worked like it was supposed to for a few days and then went back to half-speed mode again. It’s taking up dust in my garage at this point and I’ve given up on Lasko products now. Having much better luck with the Honeywell fans I’ve bought lately. Lasko needs to either drop the prices they’re charging for their defective fans or they need to use more reliable components. I won’t be buying any more Laskos in the foreseeable future.
Looks nice with the first blade
Yeah it does
It’s also missing the neck to where you connect the fan head to the stand
How long did you run this thing for
Don’t ever try this at home
Hey bro, I haven't seen you in a while.. you left a comment on a recent video but disappeared. I hope everything is well and you'll be back with more material :)
You made a video of it did you delete it
My aunt use to have a similar looking fan by Homart but it was tan and belt driven……used to be in the hallway window on the second floor and that thing moved a ton of air.
I think it needs some oil or a good cleaning, that’s probably why it is so loud, it may also be loose or worn out, causing a vibration, neat fan though!
That motor probably was lacking proper varnish insulation, like my monarch aire box fan. This would cause it to buzz and it would eventually burn out like in the video. Luckily, I decided to varnish the motor before any problems could have occurred. Always varnish McMillans!
I remember seeing those in the 80s/90s when I was growing up!
The 5 blades looks like condenser fan for fridge.
I'm glad my grandparents still have their Holmes of this exact same model, with the same blade(petal blade)
What year is your box fan
1991
Vintage :)
P.S. Stiffer, light-colored scrubbing brushes could also be used with the B-8 for polishing and scrubbing hard floors.
The Electrolux Corporation's Model B-8 Carpet Beautifier & Polisher succeeded the Model B-7 in 1963 and was made in several successive color schemes for twenty.years. The teal blue and white combination was marketed from 1968 until 1977. It employs the encapsulation method that uses diluted dry-foam shampoo.(not extraction cleaner) to attract dirt as it dries. It is then vacuumed thoroughly to remove the encapsulant. Some add a third step of spraying a diluted vinegar rinse to reduce any residue that may have been left in the carpet. Over-wetting and quick vacuuming afterward can reduce the quality of this method and cause issues such as mold, extended drying time, and quicker soiling due to dirt being attracted to the residue left behind. The method is for maintenance in between extraction cleanings and is advantageous for quick-drying if applied correctly. Electrolux Corporation has since changed its name to Aerus LLC and continues to sell its modernized Floor Pro machine that operates the same. The brushes should be rinsed and removed from the B-8 after usage. Btw, the serial number is uncoded for the year - it is the unit count. Nice save.
Thanks for this info!
@@VentilationTim You're welcome!
I’ve been curious to experience in person how much breeze one of those Pelonis box fans and equivalents put out. I’m guessing they may put out a little more than a Lasko 3733. I wouldn’t want to blow the extra money to find out though.
They are garbage i.m.o. & very difficult to disassemble & clean, unlike like a normal 3733. The guard design is terrible and hinders the airflow. Don't waste your money on one of these. Then again nothing beats a vintage metal blade box fan!
@@VentilationTim I think that when the Pelonis and the equivalents get too dirty for good airflow that they want us to dispose the fan. And then buy a new one!
This is a wonderful revisit of this fan, the color scheme is absolutely perfect for it. This is the golden era of box fans, when they were well designed, very quiet and very powerful. Sadly, none of today’s fans are made like this.
I'm glad you did a revisit of this fan, I like the color scheme you put on it too. These vintage box fans are the real deal, they were very well constructed and they're very quiet as well as the high performers they are. Don't see that with modern fans today. I noticed that the humming sound it was making before has diminished, one of my box fans has the same motor but is reversible and was making the same racket when it started up on the other position, how were you able to repair yours?
This is a box fan with some features of a window fan. Emerson did make a real window fan. When i was a child back in the 1960s we had a real emerson window fan in our kitchen window.
Do they have any International harvester?
They have any 93 F250 4.9 l6 with manual transmission? 😮
I think you will enjoy this fan very much this summer, I hope you will use it in your window and set the thermostat. I had one made by lakewood it was the deluxe model. At night i enjoyed hearing the fan turn on and off during the night. I no longer have that fan i miss having it.
I'm definitely sticking with the Wind Machine. Much better built than that cheap looking Cyclone.
Interesting thing iv learned with these 90s Lasko box fans..usually if medium runs slow like that the motor needs oiled..I can't explain why they do that but usually after a good servicing cleaning out the bearings and re oiling them the medium speed will be back to normal. Every 90s Lasko box fan iv worked on has been like that.
I like the color you painted the blades. I bought a couple of these last year. Mine both have a different style motor with oil ports. I like these aside from the noise. Way too loud. These are nice to use in the window because of how thin they are. I don't know why it's so hard to find a quiet modern hv fan. The 18 inch Patton I recently bought on Amazon is pretty quiet on low. I definitely prefer my vintage high velocity fans though.
0:15 The first blade on high sounds like a nebulizer air compressor
I have a very similar fan which has a perfect cabinet and grilles, but the motor in it locked up and got so hot that it melted out the center of the blade hub. Quite sad as it was in mint condition and had the gray blades. I put a new motor in it a while back from a scrapped fan, but it doesn't have a bladeset. I think I might take the blade out of the crappier of my two wind machines and put it on there.
not bad
Poor original blade
Noisy,bearings needs replacement.
True, and the windings revarnished
Making so much noise.
My right
3000 rpm
That is Awesome! thats how they should come from the factory! i finally got my trash found d blade Lasko going and man its running well!
Nice
Nice Duracraft fan at beginning
The windmere 10 inch box fans are also three speed
Probably a store brand
I want the domination fan
Wholesome
Any chance you’d be willing to sell this? I’ve been looking for one for a long time.
Plan to keep this one since it's in a rare immaculate condition. I'm sure you'll eventually find one if you look around hard!
@@VentilationTim I’ve been trying for many years haha
