Testing Clear Blue Light Blocking Glasses With Arduino
Переглядів 96 тис.6 років тому
percentage of blue light blocked (to nearest whole number): regular glasses: 5% blue light blocking glasses: 16% orange safety glasses: 98% note: At 6:06 in the video, I said that the color on screen and in the monitor looked the same color, however, that monitor had very bad color calibration. And after comparing the glasses with a better monitor, it was easy to see that the color on screen wa...

How to make carbon rods from pencils

here's how to make carbon rods from pencils, it's a simple and fun method, and makes nice carbon rods. Warning: the pencil and alligator clips on the pencil get very hot, don't touch them.
Lego pneumatic oscillator

This is my Lego pneumatic oscillator, it's a proof of concept and how it works is very simple. It toook me a few attemps of scraping it a rebuilding until I got it to oscillate. If you are planing on building this yourself you are probably going to need to modify your cylinder, I have not tried this with an unmodified cylinder, but I don't think it would work do to how slow it is. Hope you enjo...

    Basically how inmates make lighters in prison, BUT you could've just boiled the pencil or soaked in hot water for a while softening the glue that bonds the wood together, then split the pencil down the middle and get the led the in tact and not weakened by the heat put through it.

    how about those blue light glasses that look yellow, the ones that claim 50-60% protection, and the orange ones? such a nice experiment that lacks a couple of glasses (inputs) that go for 20 bucks...

    My pencil measured 30Ω but I only had a transformer rated 7.5V X 1.5A = 11.25W. The pencil got hot eventually, but no smoke. Found a laptop supply at 19V X 4.74A = 90W. Made it smoke and char at the ends a little, but even after 5 minutes, it wouldn't slide out. :(

      The same happened to me, but after swapping out the pencil with a new one it worked well. I think the problem is that the lead inside is broken and so can't conduct electricity as well.

    Do the safety glasses really block out 98% or is it more? I've noticed in some cases, blue light will fluoresce the material and create green light which is not blocked

    The light that harms your eyes the most is UV, which has wavelengths shorter than 400 nm. But around 400 to 500 nm is "blue light" and from the 400-460nm range is apparently what some studies say is harmful. I bought the clear-ish blue light blocking lenses which claim to block the 400-420 nm range completely, and partially block 420-455 range. I didn't get it to block blue light for digital screens: I got them to block blue light from other sources of light, such as the sun, which is FAR more intense. I think it's worth it if it turns out to be true that those bands of blue light are actually harmful. Btw, props for coming up with that experiment, it was really well done! It's too bad you didn't have the hardware to detect exactly what frequencies of blue lights were filtered out, and what frequencies of blue light the diode was emitting. I'll just take the word of my glasses manufacturer that my blue light lenses are blocking out the most harmful of the blue light. Hopefully I'm not getting swindled lol.

    Blue light glasses are the biggest scam! You do not get enough blue light from ANY of your devices to cause any of these phoney claims. They only want your money. Checkout CBC’s Marketplace tv show and their investigation. They talked to the leading eye expert in USA and he said blue light does NOT damage your eyes that there is more blue light coming from sky. People are being royally scammed! Wake up people. Turn down the brightness of your screen and look up every 20 minutes to give your eyes a break . People are just looking too long and not blinking enough and eyes are drying out. Take a rest from your digital screens. You will notice a difference if you do this after a week or sooner not to mention quit smoking and eat more nutrious food like kale and spinach and broccoli in your diet 3 x per week.

    Lol. I just bought a pair at the Dollar Tree with no magnification. Yeah. That’s how silly I am. I would love to see how great these work. I mostly bought them because I want to be able to wear pretty much clear glasses while still being able to see though. I think I might have a vision problem, but not anything the Dollar Tree is going to correct with reading glasses. This is about the closest I can get.

    The effect from blue light on our circadian rhythm is actually a result of a separate detection mechanism not related to vision, there are sensitive nerve pathways only designed to detect blue light. This was discovered by subjecting completely blind mice to different types of light, and found that they regulate their sleep patterns identically to seeing mice through the use of light and no other variables

  • @sye601
    @sye601 5 років тому

    Blue light (400-490 nm) damages the eye and is a risk factor in age related macular degeneration. With the heavy use of led screens and bulbs our exposure to this light has most likely doubled during the day. This explosion in use is something which has happened in the last 10yrs, give it another 10 or 20yrs and we will be seeing reports about the increase in AMD cases and the age of the affected coming down. Protect yourself, as a population we are the first to be exposed to a multitude of new technology and studies in to the effects of long term exposure of the noise, radiation, light etc. They omit have not been done. We are the guinea pigs. (FYI Look in to 5g phone signals, it is absorbed by the human body unlike 4g).
