Thank you for the very detailed explanation. My 9yr old little furbaby started one morning drinking and urinating excessively. Constantly hungry and panting excessively. And only after my 3rd visit to the vet when I requested the xrays and blood tests did we discover my little furbaby had cushings. He has been on antibiotics and trilostane. I noticed that when we finished the course of antibiotics his pot belly appeared again. Do you know what could be the reason for this. Is there a natural alternative to treating cushings. Thank you 🙏

I loved this explanatoo. I used the info that i learned from this wonderful doctor. My beautiful Suka started taking the Vetoryl and it curbed her appetite and her voracious thirst . She lived with Cushings for quite some time on her medication. She did eventuinally lose her fat belly and big body. I monitered her weight loss and portions until I got my GSD down to 65 pounds with all her weight los. She was the perfec size for a female Shepherd once she stanilized her weight loss. I was so happy because she was gettung older and I wanted all that excess weight off if her old bones. My beautiful girl had all these tests that he mentioned and she definitely had Cushings. The Vetroryl worked great and we tested her periodically. She was monitered and very loved. She was a senior GSD when I sdopted her. She developed another issue later on and ot continuedd until the last 9 months of her life. No problem, I was also able to control the issue with a daily warn water and mineral oil enema, she developed megacolon and needed help passing her stool once it reached her rectum. Once we got intona routine with "her bew normal" she didny mind and she let me know when she needed help relieving herself. So in spite if ger numerous vo morbidities and advanced age, Suka lived quite happily until she passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 6, 2024. She was at least 12 or 13 years old by then. Once again, thank you doctor you are very knowledgeable.

Thank you for all the info and explanations. I have a year and a half male cat that just got this symptoms. He is skreching his neck like crazy and has all you discribed. It started happening after he got fleas from escaping outside and playing with group of street kittens. I am worried as I have gone to a new vet and he have him a new combo drops. I think he did not like it from day one as he was really acting like druged and slept a lot. After a week he started making wounds around his neck as far as he can reach. Now he lacks hair in few places. Can it be a flea medication allergy?Thank you

I would consider a carnivore diet for the cat with allergies based in my own self. I am allergic ti cats but have quite a few. When i do carnivore diet I lose my asthma and allergies. When I eat grains mostly I don’t get itchy eyes until I pet my cats. I think me eating grains inflames my immune system and cant tolerate cats anymore. Eating meat only relaxes my reactions. I will always choose meat fruit and veg or meat only over my cats lol. Just thought this could be useful. I am watching your video to see if my cat has mange. Lumpy chunky spots seems to be spreading started under the chin. All the cats outside strays were getting what i thought was mange like 20 cats. I out ivermectin in the water and hot them all better. Im just scared with my own pet. I brought kittens in daily to care for their eyes and feed them and possibly brought the germs in or mites. Idk. I have cow ivermectin really scared to over dose. Any ideas? I read frontline gold can help. I am trying to not go to the vet because I have a kitten I am getting spayed and need the money for that.

  • @tammyh.8454

complete RUBBISH, steriods are all BAD, they trick the immune system into turning off the cats natural warning system! after use, you will need more to get the same effect, my Maine coon had NEVER been the same after steriod shot. Dermitis is caused from dry foods that often have allergic ingredient like corn or wheat. Watch Dr. Jones, veterinary secrets to get good advice. I feed my cat unthawwd meat from the freezer, by adding warm water. my 4 cats get ground chicken, turkey or beef. Freeze dried chicken hearts ( 1 per cat per day )and raw small chunks of raw beef to give them b 12 and clean their teeth. feed cats close to nature as possible, feed once a day, unless cat is diabetic the. 2 x day. I do add 1 tsp flax oil or chicken fat, small amount ( 1/2 tsp. per cat. watch Dr. Jones he is very helpful.

My cat was wheezing a lot, we got her tested for mycoplasma infection, it was positive. We followed the antibiotic and cough relieving regime given by the vet. But still the wheezing continued. Xray showed she has copd, so along with few medicines he advised to start nebulization. I'm following this for the past 3 months but still she wheezes, not like before but still 1-2 times a day for few seconds. I don't know how long I need to continue the treatment, please guide me as to what can be done in my cat's case. I would be really grateful to you. And yes my cat is quite lethargic, she was always lazy but after watching your video I realized that since her wheezing problem started, she's just sitting around and sleeping the whole day. She's eating and drinking normally.

Hi Shadaan Thanks for getting in touch. If we are sure that the mycoplasma is completely cured and there is no other infection and the current diagnosis is COPD or asthma then it is a process of trialling different treatments including inhaled and systemic medicines to see what works best for your cat. Unfortunately, just as you have described , we cannot resolve the problem for some cats and have to just try to control heir symptoms as well as we can. My own little cat fails depo respond to any of the medications we trialled but is able to live a comfortable happy life with her symptoms which are not very severe. Hope this helps Nico

Dr. Thank you. My 11 yr old Bichon,Maltese, poodle and ? Was born into a horrible backyard situation. I adopted him at 8 wks. I am a RN who leans toward holistic but always has him cared by vets. I always educate myself before immediately treating. It’s been approximately 18mo he was losing hair on the tail tip. The skin eventually became ugly, like a rats tail. Since we have been on the diagnosis trail. It’s been a trek. $$$ . We did it all starting with diet. I have always provided a diverse diet of the best researched kibble and canned food incorporating, broccoli, kale, lettuce, carrots, potatoes, ancient grains, sardines, proteins of cooked plain chicken, beef, fish and eggs. I also supplement with probiotics and healthy fat oils. Then allergy testings, numerous blood and chem labs. All perfect. Two weeks ago, I had an X-ray which showed an enlarged liver. He developed the thirst, urination and seemed to be famished about 6 months ago. The skin along his back is extremely flaky with with ketosis bumps. But he has no signs of itch or discomfort. Yesterday, we did the low dose prednisone test and he is positive for Cushing. Pituitary. I am going to start the Trilostane. What recommendations do you have for holistic herbs to support this treatment?

VERY helpful information, thank you sir. I've been treating a young outdoor kitty for what I'm now certain is THIS milliary dermatitis. I thought it 'might' be mange when he first showed up - he was a stray but became friendly rather quick, so I was able to washcloth bathe him with a "borax/3% h2O2/water" mix, which I did repeatedly, 2-3 times weekly - he went from his entire body covered in raw and patchy areas to SIGNIFICANT improvement. Raw skin healed up nicely, fur grew back, appetite picked up and he became playful with the other outdoor kitties in his new pack family. BUT, the little bumps keep coming back and he scratches. Took him to vet, she told me "flea allergy" - put him on antibiotics & gave me a foamy shampoo that does nothing. I gave him a topical flea treatment and will continue with the baths to manage it as that seems to give the best result and relief for him. After bathing, I have a mixture of coconut oil (liquid form) with a dropper of licorice root essential oil (anti-inflammatory & antimicrobial) - I massage a little onto any areas of his skin that might need soothing. So far, this bath and skin treatment seem to be the only thing working, but I see this will be a lifetime maintenance routine for him. At least he doesn't try as hard to escape his baths now like he did in the beginning, I have far less scratches from him trying to climb me. 😂

    • @spearageddon3279
      @spearageddon3279 3 місяці тому

PS - regarding the flea allergy diagnosis, I have flea combed him during every bath and he surprisingly does NOT have fleas. Of course being outdoors he can get one or two, but he's never had an issue of concern with fleas. He clearly just has allergies, or very sensitive skin.

Hi Juanita The treatment is expensive but it is certainly not painful. If the symptoms of her condition eg drinking a lot and painting and losing muscle strength and energy are affecting her quality of life then, if you don't mid the expense then it is worthwhile trialling the treatment which is Calle Trilostane. Hope this helps Nico

Unfortunately topical cortisone does not work well for a variety of reasons - the hair gets in the way , cats lick it off and usually there are large areas affected which make systemic treatment more effective. I have used Barazone topically in dogs where just the underside is affected but not in cats Hope this helps Nico

Thanks for the very informative video. I noticed that my 8yo girl whippet had dropped a step or two, stopped zooming, was dragging behind on walks and sometimes tended to lethargy. I also noticed she was drinking and peeing a lot, was panting at night and was more hungry than usual. The vet ran a bunch of tests including the LDDS test and feels confident with a clinical diagnosis of Cushings (pituitary version). With the budget smashed I still haven’t committed to the ACTH stim test based medical treatment program. BUT, she is now on a low fat Hills digestive diet, with low purines treats, plus a multi vitamin supplement with high vitamin E, a probiotic and a tea spoon of omega 3 6 9 oil in her food, and her symptoms have reduced, in some cases significantly. The biggest turnaround was that she now has a spring back in her step, is keeping up with my other whippet again during leashed walks, and can get to about 3/4 of her quick trot when off leash zooming. She rarely pants at night now and the excessive drinking / peeing has reduced a little as well, but she is still very hungry. She scavenges food any where she can. For now, this will have to do. But I will in the months ahead go with the medical treatment program (I want her to have the best quality life she can, and also hopefully lose that whoppet of a belly), just need to adjust the budget. The costs are not trivial!

Your full of shit. Any dog testing for Cushings, will have a false positive test. The reason is the dog is terrified because it is left in a veterinary office for eight hours. You will always have a false positive test. Quit diagnosing Bushings disease when it's a normal fear response. Your a quack vet.

We’re in the US and have been feeding our 17yo kidney cat a natural kidney prescription food by Darwin’s pet food brand. The kidney formula is called Intelligent Design for cats. It’s a raw meat food but our cat prefers it lightly steamed with a bit of filtered water added. We also give him a few drops of a pure fish oil from Nordic Naturals pet line. And we give a few drops of a kidney support called Pet Wellbeing kidney Gold formula. He’s been on this food regimen for the past two years and is still doing okay. His skin tent tests are still looking as not dehydrated so we haven’t started any sub q fluids yet but we keep an eye on that. Thank you for this informative video! Sorry to all of the cats and pet caregivers suffering this awful diagnosis. Pets are truly the best part of life :)

How long before i should she a change in my dogs symptoms after she has started treatment on Vetoryl? Also my vet is requesting that i do the first atch test at 3 weeks after she began treatment instead of the 10 to 14 day suggested time as per the Dachra website instructions. Do you see any problems with what she is adviding? Will the results have the same findings if its done at 2 weeks vs. 3 weeks? Lastly, other then seeing no reduction in her symptoms during the past 2.5 weeks,I have noticed an increase in a caughing issue which she struggled with many years ago which is called "a reverse sneeze". Prior to the Vetoryl she was not clearing her throat and making the repetative deep caughing noise which she has now begun doing on a daily basis since beginning the medication. I was wondering if there is any connection between cushing or Vetoryl itself and an increase in this treachia related breathing condition that you know of. Thx very much.

Hi BabyBear Thanks for getting in touch. Usually we would expect to see a benefit from the Vetoryl treatment within 4 weeks. Regarding the sneezing/coughing/snorting - one possible explanation is that the high cortisol levels caused by Cushings Disease may have actually been producing enough cortisol to treat and allergic or inflammatory respiratory condition like chronic bronchitis and now that you are treating the Cushings there is less cortisol in her body and therefore the chronic bronchitis is no longer under control. This is just one possibility - have a chat with your vet about it Hope this helps Nico

THANK YOU. Thats an interesting theory. It seems that her symptoms have actually gotten worse since taking the 10mg dose of Vetoryl the past 4 weeks. She is hungier and thirstier then before and urinates more frequently. Well its hard to say for sure but definitely no improvement. The panting is noticably increased thats for sure and her level of fatigue and overall lack of interest in anything other then food has not changed. Would this mean that the dosage isn't high enough to bring down the cortisol level in the blood? I am concerned that not following the exact Dechra Protocol for testing guidelines which my vet doesnt seem to care about could produre inaccurate results. Because I am administering her medication at 6pm due to her lack of appetite earlier in the day,my vet told me to bring her in for the ATCH test at 8am which would be 14 hrs past her last dose. The guidelines state that the atch test should be given 4 to 6 hrs after medication and I could find no online data to support that it is accepttable to deviate from these specific Vetoryl guidelines. Therefore I wanted to know if its acceptable to do the test at 14 hrs after the last dose or if you believe that this variation of the suggested protocol, could produce invalid results in terms of the measurements which the atch test aims to determine. I would gate to think this critical measurement of blood cortisol level would be inacurate and that the dosage of Vetoryl may be adjuested based on flawed results. I would appreciate your opinion on this subject as it relates to this particular test or any other variation in testing suggested by a vet which differs from that which the manufacturer has precisely outlined in the package insert. Thank you so much.@nicothevet7851

@@babybear4524 Hi Baby Bear I always stick to the recommended protocol so have no experience in deviating from it. Perhaps chat to the manufacturer about implications of deviating from the protocol. Regarding response to treatment - if she is not responding to the treatment and it is being given at the correct dose then sometimes splitting the daily dose and giving half in the morning and half in the evening works better. It may also be worth considering asking your vet to refer you to a specialist to review her. Hope this helps Nico

@nicothevet7851 Well I decided to switch Vets today and am glad I did because this place has its own online pharmacy and this Doctor advocates the use of Trilostane as an option other then the Vetoryl. The other vet I saw was opposed to Trilostane. So my current vet recommended I increase her to 12mg of Trilostane daily for a mth or 2 depending on how she is doing. He was nice enough not to require I do the Atch test yet which helps me financially and still allows me to gradually increase dosage by using the compounded 12 mg which isn't available by using Vetoryl. Have you found there to be any difference in the efficacy of Vetoryl vs. Trilostane? Does the medication have to be given with food such as a meal containing fat or is it OK to give with a spoon of peanut butter since my dog doesn't want to eat much until later afternoon and I would like her to take the meds earlier in the day so that when we do the atch test in 1 or 2 months she will be able to get it done 3 hrs after medication instead of having to deal with the current issue of her taking it at night and getting the test 14 hrs after. I knew that would be a problem and glad I have a new vet who confirmed with me that if the meds are not given 3 to 4 hrs before the test it could in fact yield false results. It's so important for pet owners to research and be thier own advocates for thier pet because had I not read the protocol and spoken to other owners online I never would have been aware that my vet was deviating from those guidelines. Actually when I tried to order the 12mg dose just now it's backordered and so I may have to split it into a 5mg and a 7 mg Trilostane pill. Do you think it matters which one I give at what time or maybe it's best to give both pills at once so when it's time for the atch test I will know exactly when she took it? Thx

I used the spot local insecticide and the next day he grew his hair that were so shiny. Now after 4 weeks I can see the patches again. I am washing the house regularly every two days. He wasnt scratching or licking for four weeks. I wonder if there's an option for outdoor shoe immersion when you get home such as when you go to swimming pools. That would likely help no fleas.

Absolutely brilliant video. You went over everything I wanted to know and it was very reassuring. My cat, we think has mild asthma. He is 14 years old and we spoke to the vet about it about 6 months ago who has suggested to just watch him for now and see if it gets worse then possibly introduce an inhaler. I'd just like to add that treatments are expensive. We talked about having a chest xray at a cost of £600 which is really a lot of money for us. The inhaler will cost £200 and we will find the money for that. Thank you very much for sharing your video. I'm pretty sure my cat has asthma now and my vet is also quite confident of this. We were able to take a video of George (my cat) whilst he was having a coughing attack and show it to him. Although George is 14 he is very active. He goes out several times a day and is keen on a long walk in the evenings. We know because he has a tracker and its fun to see how far he goes and he loves to play with us indoors.
