Deadpool & Wolverine SPOILER FILLED Analysis | Back Lot Banter Review
I had to analyze this movie as a cultural study. It was quite surrealist but I think it has a lot of fun/creative sentiments about certain topics. The thing is that as a person with a Thai mother, I did hear my Thai relatives speak poorly of communists (mainly kids). It was kinda mindblowing how the monkey ghost was somehow a symbolic representation of the very same dehumanization that is placed on communists and described by Marx. The way the son turned into a monkey ghost was symbolic of the way perspective is affected by affiliation. And how the idea of a different ideology seemed to other them from people. It's interesting how the princess gives her body to the fish in exchange for personal gain, whitened skin, etc. It felt like an allusion to prostitution to me, to give your body for something you feel you need. The main concept of reincarnation matters in the regard that they believe karma makes your next life either better or worse depending on your accumulated goodwill. The thing is that being reincarnated isn't the goal of Buddhism, it's actually escaping the perpetual suffering by breaking the reincarnation cycle kind of like finding the perfect run. It was interesting how all of this was symbolically portrayed.
He pulled out an IUD? I haven’t seen the movie but if he pulled a birth control device from her arm, it’s not an IUD. IUDs are placed in the uterus (Intra Uterine Device IUD)
There goes our credibility! You’re totally right, that’s just a complete mess up on my end.
@ Maybe you can quietly do an edit. Half the population knows what an IUD is and will either wonder how he was able to access it (that’s a whole different movie) or will continue to be flummoxed over why something like that isn’t on the radar of men. As a female who doesn’t have one and would never get one (most doctors don’t provide anesthesia during the painful installation or removal of that medieval torture device) but I know what it is and where it’s located.
I've watched it once and thought it decent but nothing special. I had a similar feeling to the first time I watched Get Out. I thought it was well done but was disappointed that I quickly guessed the storyline and it never deviated from that. On second watch of Get Out, I enjoyed it a lot more because I wasn't thinking so much about where it would go. Maybe this will be like that but my first view made me think similarly to you in that it never surprised me.
The family that Leo stays with are not his own; the other boy is just a school friend. There is an emphasis of the difference in lifestyle between Leo's and theirs, they quietly patronise him because he is poorer than them - "I think he lives in a small house". There is definitely a class conflict there. The film has a dream-like feel that is told in flashback, "the past is another country", which exists, as so much memory does, in fragments, and the film' s form, in image, dialogue and music, evocatively depicts this fragmentation. The disjointed feel, the distance is essential, the intention is supposed to be jarring. Leo is the victim of this film, pure and simple. Ted is the closest to being sympathetic to him, but he is used and then thrown out by the adult world to be forgotten and damaged by them for the rest of his life. The film is a masterpiece, though it's a subtle one.
Joker: Falling to Spot Deux
Many are saying this!
Zemekis The Witches from 2022 was just very bad. Also Tom Hanks he is kind of done. Has become way to old. His last movie that was like advertisement for the democratic convention..even had a Tman in it..just horrible.
Cannes is not pronounced correctly in this video and yet most people including Woody Allen mispronounce it.
Smile 3 gonna go hard
A movie can be harmful and a game changer at the same time. This was before the Academy Awards, but The Birth of a Nation was undeniably a game changer, but just as undeniably harmful. I can't judge all Best Picture winners (there are 6 I've yet to see), but of the ones I've seen Lawrence of Arabia is my clear favorite, Gigi easily the worst, it was downright painful watching it. Some I liked but felt they could have been better, Everything Everywhere All At Once, was good, but could have been great. The weird multiverse story intermixed with the family dynamics was great, the family part ended perfectly, but the multiverse storyline ended somewhat muddled and was confusing. They also went off on weird tangents, such as hot dog fingers.
I’m gonna see it for sure. Don’t want to miss this.
I didn't realize Tucker had a film channel too, I'm here from the gaming channel. Back Lot Banter vs Back Log Banter, clever names
YOU GET IT
You earned my subscription. I wish you had a description that said the title and release date of what you're talking about, but i like the content
That was an oversight on my end! I fixed it. These are the sort of things that slip through the cracks when I’m editing and uploading 3 reviews back to back, oops.
Less than 500 views and the algorithm threw you at me. You guys are about to explode.
Holy cow! You have so much back catalog!
Thank you! We’re really proud of our work here, so glad you enjoyed it!
I don't even want to see it because I've seen FAR more of this man than I consented to in my life
As an actor, surely all you would have to do is fart. Fart very, very well. People have never smelt farts like his, they all said it was imossible.
Good job, you guys. I’ve got ties to SNL , And I’ve got friends who were cast members . I thoughts I would check you guys out. I was impressed with y’all’s take on the film. 🤙🏻 . Gabriel LaBelle is terrific in this, and Copper Hoffman is going to be a blast to watch for years to come!!! Good job you guys!
Back Lot Banter is a terrible show, no ratings. Sad! Not like my rallies, the most amazing rallies, no one ever leaves.
This movie seems to present an interesting theory: "......is Trump bad??"
The answer may not shock you 😅
I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, The Wild Robot, and My Old Ass this month, and thoroughly enjoyed all 3. I saw the latter because I felt like going to the movies last week and did not want to see Joker 2 or Megalopolis.
It’s the Uno Reverse Card of the Megalopolis review!
Keep in mind that FFC has stated he was making his Finnegan’s Wake
It’s nothing like the Room and it is not Libertarian
Sam confuses me with his film tastes especially his LOTR take
Trust me, they confuse me too
Thanks for talking about Bruno, guys! I’m excited to check out this film now, hearing all about its many intricacies. Love movies of this variety, of which this seems to have been along the road to the Safdies’ work and also Sean Baker (excited for Anora analysis)
I’m very excited to hear how terrible the box office stats are on this film in September’s roundup. Like, I always knew it was gonna be a bomb, but I wanna know exactly how big of a bomb it is.
for "around the world in 80 days" it most likely won because it was a huge box office success in response to the tv panic, i would probably have given it to ten commandments, if we're judging by epics, but "around the world" was the better success in terms of audience, not critics.
I saw this movie with a tweenager mindset, but all I remember is Adrian Brody sexually harassing Halle Berry at the Oscars.
I would have personnally put Gigi in the "Harmful" category. Are we forgetting that the movie is about a 30 year old man wanting to make a 25 year old girl his lover??
Timo. We called it VHS at the time...not VCR😉
Movie was so boring and dull.
In my teens in the mid 90s I was lucky to have a friend whose father owned a video store. That meant me and my friends had free access to movies, and we watched them ALL (including a lot of baaad 70s and 80s movies). 'Missing' however was one of those gems that was surprisingly good. I don't really remember much of it now, but I really liked it and Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek were amazing. It is great to see Lemmon move on to more dramatic roles in his later years. 'Save the tiger', 'The China syndrome' to name a few.
Great video, this movie was so good, better than I expected. Glad to revisit this universe again!
Put Titanic in the HARMFUL category
I tried to warn you about what was in this one in the Discord... I also have to say this was one of the most well-done and thought-provoking conversations I've yet heard from you. This film is very uncomfortable to watch in moments, and easy to condemn its practices, but you guys opened up fascinating doors of conversation exploring what our scientists' practices throughout history were what yielded what we know now, and the thought process of what was considered acceptable. I now think about if it's worth killing schools of fish to learn facts about their populations... those threads lead to moral questions of what privileges we take for granted as people in general, pretty high on the social strata ourselves in the grand scheme of things. Many more things I could mention, but that's just what good-faith conversation like this can bring. Thanks y'all!
"I used to play the Pirates of the Caribbean MMO" was not on my bingo card for Quest.
So happy you read my comment. I can't comment on "the white ribbon" because I haven't seen it. But I will say that "West side story's" score is my "Driving Miss Daisy".
Rochefort is one HBO btw. Just be prepared for some bad French dubbing.
I have only watched 3.5 seconds of this and I can already tell you're not giving [insert movie star here] the respect they deserve
A very weird movie! I sincerely hope that this movie did not permanently scar the main actor..
Glad you guys liked it. I really liked the world building at the beginning. I do echo wheh Tucker mentioned the Xenomorph Ex Machina moment in the elevator shaft. The entire elevator shaft seemed like plot device central.
Interesting discussion guys. The other big Jaques Demi film is "young girls of rochefort". I personally like Cherbourg more, even if the other one is more fun. And an homage to musicals before that one. It's bull shit to me that Rochefort lost "best score" to "Oliver!" Meanwhile, Cherbourg wins nothing :(
😢 CHILDISH 😢 UBER STUPID
I've seen this one! I didnt love it.
5:20 "A Man for all Seasons" is not bad at all. It's one of the most mature movies in that list, a very quiet, subtle piece about a man sticking to his ideals when the whole world turns against him. It's beautifully written, brilliantly acted, amazing costumes. As a historian I rarely saw the 16th century being portayed more authentically.
Tucker: "It's like the Nic Cage thing in The Flash" *Abram stammers*
All this tells me, from Abram's confusion, is that you guys need to finish the Untitled Marvel Project.
Bit annoying that you leave the Dogme 95 concept to the last part when it sits within that realm. The final scene has no music because there are no rhythms formed from everyday sounds around her to react to, literally just her heartbeat, so she’s using that solely as her rhythm to sing to. In terms of the sexual harassment claims, I don’t dispute what Björk has claimed, but I believe Lars Von Trier merely said those things to simply get a key performance out of an untrained actress who relies on intuition, and his aim was to make her feel as miserable as possible during playing the role of Selma, as that is what he needed. After the claims came out, people questioned why she willingly posed for shots at the Oscars or the Cannes film festival etc., but I believe she was fulfilling her sense of duty and it was probably written into her contract before filming had even started. What I kind of find odd is that she included interview segments with him in her own ‘Inside Björk’ documentary from 2003. These are fleeting moments and provide messaging about her being an untrained actress, but could’ve easily been omitted if that troubling.
Bob Iger and the Disney jews need to stop forcing blacks and black women characters down our throats. Shitty, worthless, DEI-actors and show-runner.
I'm sorry you feel that way about certain people.
I loved this movie so much. Definitely a vibe / moodpiece. Amazing soundtrack, beautiful visuals. Too many racing scenes and could’ve used a bit more dialogue but I liked their less is more approach.
After 28 years i think the visual effects of twister hold up better than independence day's.
Make sure you take your La Dolce Vita-mins!
