Solo Female Winter Van Life in the Canadian Rockies | Tiny Budget, Big Rewards for Fun in the Snow!
Back to the Rockies and beyond after another bloomin' cancelled work gig. No use crying over precious income income, so to self-soothe, I try out my new-to-me bit of winter sports kit, and bring in 2025 with clean mountain air coursing through my freshly butchered only-barbershop-in-town buzz cut (ugh!). #vanlife#minivancamper#bluetti#solofemalevanlife#carcamping#jasper#backcountryskiing

About my channel:
Good Lord - not another bloody van life channel!!!!
Well, yes. But perhaps UA-cam is not yet bored with watching economically challenged folks freeze their knackers off while living in rolling sardine cans. We shall see as the interminable Arctic winter fast approaches!
SO...after 30 years of a rather posh but financially lean, semi-nomadic work-life based in the UK (but including France, Austria, Italy and Spain) I've come back to my birth place; the often-bleak, sometimes haunting, utterly unaffordable and increasingly isolated Alberta prairies, to support ageing parents. But, gosh darn it anyway, I plan to make the most of it, and will muster all my Westernised Buddhist-y mindfulness to turn the existential frown upside down!
I sure hope you'll follow along as I grind my way along the UA-camr learning curve while finding adventure and meaning in my childhood hell.

      Haha! Thanks Vicky!! Yes, shouldn't really whine about the Alberta prairies - it's a good place for more 'conventional' folks. Lots of good hard-working family people here. That said, give me a pied-a-terre in Sicily and another small campervan for the rest of the time, and for me...that is HOME! Will do a narrowboat vid in the future for sure - I miss it, but it was definitely SLOW-living😆. Good during Covid when I needed a refuge for old Murph and me...XX

    • @FrostyMcFrostface
      @FrostyMcFrostface 13 днів тому

      Hi Maggie! The Bluetti Charger One is a great choice as it'll charge pretty much any brand of power station. You never know when you may swap for say, an Ecofow or Oupes. Ecoflow also has a DC-DC charger, but it only works with that brand. I also looked at the Pecron 500w car charger, (a more budget option) but they were out of stock for ages!

    Hello, for longer term, best practice with the fuel tank inside your living space would be to draw off the top with a stand pipe. That way the fitting can't vibrate loose and eventually leak (potentially). Stand pipes are on amazon for cheap, the last one I ordered is currently delayed but on the way (Canada Post maybe?). I think I have three of those tanks just sitting around, if you'd like one for a second build. I'm in Ardrossan but work south east and head to the west end a few times a month. Which DC-DC charger did you go with?

    • @FrostyMcFrostface
      @FrostyMcFrostface 13 днів тому

      Absolutely spot-on, and thanks for your comment!! I've been looking into a standpipe. I think I'll add one to a 20l marine tank when I upgrade my entire set-up. If you're from Ardrossan, you know how bloody cold it gets here - more capacity is better! You are SO kind to offer a tank! I think I'm OK for now. I went with the Bluetti Charger1 after cancelling my Pecron 500W order (waited forever with no updates on stock). It was a bit pricey, but I got a member's discount + handy cabling. Very pleased!!

  • @FrostyMcFrostface
    @FrostyMcFrostface 14 днів тому

    Fire away with your questions/comments! It's a relatively temporary set-up; MUCH better to live in it for a while in order to determine what is important and what is not BEFORE investing in the future build.

      Thank you so much @Maggiethe caddy1. Yes, the key principal with minivan life in Canada is to stay adventurous and enjoy life, but have the flexibility to be close to hand when needed. Hi there - thank you very much!! Yes, I have a pretty adequate set-up. I started with a Bluetti AC70 power station, added a Bluetti Charger 1 DC-DC (will work with pretty much ANY brand of power station), then found a lightly used 100ah LifePo4 which is dedicated to the diesel heater and a few LEDs. The DC-DC charges the power station, the power station charges the LifePo4. I love that it's all easily removable and useable in other applications!

    • @FrostyMcFrostface
      @FrostyMcFrostface 2 місяці тому

      So complex an issue. As an average progressive person, all I know is that sustainable, renewable energy is the only thing that will save us. We don't talk much about nuclear waste anymore - our collective heads are firmly in the sand! God forbid we see increased acts of terrorism against nuclear installations, and let's not forget accidents and meltdowns due to increasingly violent weather.
