Good review, do you still own this car by chance? If not, how long did you keep it before getting rid of it? Seems like it was a good car choice at the time😊
I had a 94 Shadow. It was the biggest disappointment ever. Poor handling, barely able to get up to freeway speed on an onramp (2.2L) appalling brakes, non vented rotors would shake braking from freeway speed, 3 speed auto. HORRIBLE CAR. Now, the 2.2L TURBO, the early Shadow/Sundance, and the CSX, very different car. I was a delusional kid. I thought I has a CSX, when I had a poverty Shadow
yo this found this Video! I still have a 1994 Duster! Mines got the V6/5Speed combo! fun as hell to drive!
First! Happy birthday dude
cool
What I did for my radio in my Dodge Shadow was take a 2.1 computer speaker set, wedge the two speakers in the front between the seat and the frame of the car by the doors, and bungee cord the subwoofer in the trunk, then ran a power inverter and aux cable. I miss my $300 piece of junk lol. Hard disagree on the gas mileage though. EPA rated 22 city 25 highway, and IRL about 17-20 depending on if I was driving like a dick or not. It seemed to turn fuel into noise, as it wasn't very quick either. That said, I still do miss it.
The 2.2 engine doesn't have or need a balance shaft. It also had a lot of torque. An available Mitsubishi engine did have a balance shaft. An airbag was rare for any car back then, cup holders were rare, and Sundance was first of American small cars, and maybe Japanese as well, to have a driver air bag.
Sounds like you need a new muffler on your car.
I had a 1993 red sundance 2 door. Loved that little car only issue, was it was leaking 1 1/2 quarts of oil a day and you had to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor just to take off.
do you still have it? my gram had a purple one in the 90s when I was a kid and i loved that car!!
Mines spoiler is more covering on the hatch
Please do more stuff on the sundance I just got one😭
My first car in 1996! 1989 Sundance four door. The only mechanical issue I had was it would suddenly die while on the move, forcing me to shift to neutral and then turn the ignition to start, all while on the move. This was fixed by replacing a cracked distributor. Make sure to tighten the bolts on the wiper spindles as mine loosened and the wiper swept past the A pillar and jammed on the side window.
I saw one of these in a nice blue. I want one
So do I aswell. I wanted one forever.
Awesome! I fucking love my 93 Sundance! had mine for over 10 years now and I will not get rid of it!
i can do the head gaskets in two and a half hourd back in the 90's
The Pride Is Back The Unbelievable American 1990 Sundance all for 8399
Some stuff you should know, from an 89 shadow owner. 1. TurboDodgeForum - If you have any problems with the car go there they can help. 2. You are living on borrowed time with the head gasket. They were made of compressed paper and resin and tend to blow when they get old/100,000 miles. If you do get a new one get a Felpro one. Also a good time to do timing belt and cam, intermediate shaft, and front main seals. 3. Timing belt - relatively easy job you should do the motor mounts to. Be careful, the motor sits at a 22 degree backwards slant to it is easy to be one tooth of. If it does break the engine is non interference so all that will happen is it will stop running. 4. Common block - 2.2 and 2.5 post 1989 were 95% the same. So most 2.5 parts will fit your 2.2. Check wi the people over on TurboDodgeForum first just to be safe.
Thank you so much
My family still owns a 92 Sundance sedan with like 112,000 miles. Right now it's in Mexico and only gets driven a couple hundred miles each year when we go.
This car was a piece of cake to work on.
I bought one of these new in 1991 with my Grandfather's Chrysler Employee Discount for $7800. I drove it to 200k miles before selling it. Carfax says the car went to 260,000 before being totaled in a rear-end collision. You need to change the Transmission Fluid and Filter(use Mopar original fluid)immediately and every 50K miles thereafter. It was slow, and the A/C barely worked, but it was an awesome car. Helpful Pointers from my personal "Time Machine": (1). Mine rusted out in the rocker panels because those were the only panels NOT Two-sided galvanized. Take off the door sills and spray in a ton of Rust-o-leum in there while you still can. (2). Have the timing belt changed before it breaks(do it every 100 K miles after that). It is a non-interference engine, so it will not self-destruct, but it saves a lot of walking. (3). Take apart the transmission shifter(in console) and disconnect the connection to the ribbon display indicator. It will jam and shred. No amount of lube will stop it. If you disconnect it, it saves a ton of embarassment. Also, Spray silicone lube into the end of the shift cable. The cable will last much longer. Otherwise it will freeze-up over time. (4). I used Valvoline conventional oil. In these cars, they weren't made for "Synthetic, or Semi-Synthetic oils", it was not invented yet. You don't want seal expansion and leaks. Do it every 3K miles. Fram Filter. (5). When you do the rear brakes, take a picture of the mechanism with your cell phone for when you put it back together. The sane way it "looks like" it should go back together, is not the correct way. Many Mechanics have been burned by this(Chrysler Drum Brakes) and the car will have poor rear brakes and be dangerous on slippery conditions. (6). Use Hylomar Blue gasket sealer on the valve cover gasket(I think Permatex bought them out and it is now Permatex Blue). These always have annoying valve cover leaks, as they did not adopt the "Honda O-Ring Gasket" yet. (7). Replace the Fuel Filter under the passenger side next to the gas tank. It is under the car and easy to replace. Use a good quality one, as the Cheap Chinese/Mexican ones have a short metal fuel line that rusts through quick, causing high pressure fuel to spray out(unless you want a "Flame Thrower")(and really bad gas mileage). (8). The Ignition switches on these have a little aluminum tab that is designed to break off if someone tries to steal it. Everything will light up normally, but you will get no "Starter Energize". It is not your Starter, it is your Ignition switch. Cheap and Easy to fix. Chrysler Starters on these last forever. (9). The "Halo Lamp" around the key will stop working. There is a Thermo-Timer down by your left foot under the dash that fails. It is as big as a spark plug, cheap and easy to fix. The Halo Lamp makes the car seem much more classy than it is. (10). These cars go fairly well in the winter time. Mine had 65 series tires new, and with 70 series tire(later), it became like a "Snowmobile" and would go through anything. Congratulations on your "Purchase of the Century"; Go-forth "Young Jedi"! P.S., we drive Honda and Toyota now.
Great 👍 I remember these cars lol these were better than those crappie Neons. CHEERS 🍻
You did a tune up you might as well also replace the timing belt and water pump or there's going to be problems.
I find myself watching this video over and over My girlfriend has a 92 Plymouth Sundance With new head gaskets and a lower mileage transmission put in It's a nice ass car I myself own a 93 Chevy Lumina I love the old cars much more than new ones
Tape the ape thank you buddy a bunch more content coming !!
@@merrillkerlin1391 awesome! And you're welcome.
Awesome. Love these shadows and sundance vehicles. Keep posting.
I had a 1991 blue sundance in 1996.
I know this is an old video, but you overpaid for that car.
Oh I know man, my grandma knew I needed a car and bought it for me when I was broke without asking me. I accepted it but she is terrible at negotiation and I paid it back over a few months
Didn't show the air filter being changed. I wanted to see how you did that....
My uncle actually had a Dodge Shadow, it was red I believe! I have a 1997 Dodge Stratus with the 2.4L DOHC and I’ve put 10k miles on it since August, and I haven’t had any mechanical failures at 150k miles. I love your car, it looks great!
I got a good time ,now i know how to make my tune up on my sundance
So that rattle could very well be a messed up front engine mount. I had that problem at one point then changed it and the rattle went away.
It definitely is all of the engine and transmission mounts are badly worn and needs replaced I've since found out I'm getting ready to make a video on that process thank you for the comment buddy
@@merrillkerlin1391 I have one of these too. imgur.com/Mkc43wl I love these little cars
Yours looks clean af
Update the car is running great and no problems other then you cant take off in sport mode or the transmission slips a little bit
Nissans are unreliable. If you want a good one get it like from the early 2000 before they out that shitty CVT transmission.
Love my Sentra it’s not the best car but it’s great
Hey I just bought one. How many miles do you have on yours?
Cam Strong 67000
@@nicholasadkins6469 any major issues? The CV transmission treating you good so far?
Cam Strong Actually, nope problem. I had a bad Valve body but it’s was covered under warranty.
@@nicholasadkins6469 nice! Thanks
I’m restoring a Sundance 93 ( I’m from Mexico) I love this caer even more than new cars as Toyota’s or another modern vehicle..
These were based off of the Dodge Aires Plymouth Reliant ion the stretched K platform. These were more reliable than the god awful Neon that replaced it. Neon was a piece of shit when new. How did the Neon last 8 years I have no idea? Most of them had overdrive transmission issues and head gaskets and bad paint within the first three years. The Plymouth Sundance/ Dodge Shadow were very reliable and cheap to fix and outlasted the Neon 2 to 1.
I had a 1988 Plymouth Sundance 2.5 L Turbo gold color 2 door. Mine had the Tachometer Auto PS/PB Air cold Tilt Wheel Cruise Power Mirrors Power Locks and Power Driver & Passenger Seat Am/FM Infinity II sound system with cassette/ CD, Fog Lights. Mine was ordered with no Power Windows Loaded otherwise. Thought that was strange paid 800.00 back in 1997 and had 98k miles on it I still have the sticker too it the price was 10,250.00 new in 1988.
Thanks for the review dude. Keep a cheap pair of vice grips in the back to clamp on to your rear actuators. The only thing that sucks more than getting groceries is getting popped in the skull loading them into your car! Peace
I actually recently put a factory es spoiler on mine and it made it just heavy enough where my trunk won't stay open anymore thank you for the tip buddy
@@merrillkerlin1391 Anytime dude. Enjoy the day. Peace
I had a aunt that bought a plymouth Sundance 2 door new in 1994 she drove it until 2016 when she died of a heart attack nice car other then a few water pumps she had over 300k on the car with a little surface rust still not bad
Learned how to change oil on one of these cars. Some great memories as a kid.
LOL 2k? I bought my 1993 in 1996 after my grandma had it for 3 years with only 114k on it for $1100 :) It was also the sweet ass Maroon Purple which I had decked out in 0% tint with a sunroof to boot. My 15 inch Cerwins pumpin 1000w's at 0 ohms. Drove that baby to her grave :)
i had an 87 Sundance nd i loved that little car! Hope youre still enjoying yours man!
Pretty much love the review because I have a 91 & 93 Sundance/Shadow both are 5 speeds, Everywhere I go in Detroit, People say, Those are good cars & you hardly dont see them anymore, Or these were real cars, People always now & then Ask do I wanna sell it. Go on Facebook under P bodys We are commited to the survival of all FWD 2.2/2.5 Normal & Turbo Chryslers.... Great Job on the Video !!!! These cars are so much more, Go to Facebook & Check it out 👍😎
Its weird hearing someone talk about my car 😂
sorry bro ... you got RIPPED for over 2 grand.... man you could have gotten a mazda miata for that money or hell if you needed the room and reliability a 90s toyota corolla would have been a better option or if you didn't care about fuel economy then you could have easily picked up an old catfish camaro , a foxbody mustang, or my personal choice of the that price range a chevy monte carlo or a crown vic (better yet a police interceptor with the upgraded suspension and maintenance0 I mean what more could you ask for good handling V8 rear wheel drive posi Rear muscle with one of the most reliable engines in history dont get me wrong but 2 grand it way to much for this car esp not one of the duster "s" or sundance "s" versions with the v6 again dont take it wrong its a GREAT little car I had the 93 Sundance with the 2 door 5 speed manual ... I LOVED it i beat the hell out of it and did burn outs constantly and only ever had to replace the clutch and later the alternator but other than that i got it for 500$ and it had 40,000 miles on it and it gt 45 mpg it was a great little car ( i can remember putting lunch trays under the back wheels and locking the parking brake and doing donuts with it . I ran it until it had 160,000 on it and got 800 out of it
honestly man you are completely right this video was more or less a showcase of an almost mint 1 owner 90s survivor. a family friend gave it to me because i was in a sticky financial situation and i was in desperate need of any sort of vehicle with cheap insurance i slowly paid it off 50 bucks at a time i know i could have gotten a better deal elsewhere i just didn't have the money out right at the time, or there is ALLLLOT more options i would have picked for a daily driver but thank you bud i really appreciate the input and suggestions. Thanks again for the support i have a review of a mint 1978 Monte carol and a 2016 nissan sentra coming soon
good stuff man I really have been looking for new car channels that do more second hand reviews of older cars... I love the old top gear and that whole format of buying used beaters and running them across a few states selling them for hopefully what i paid for it and buying another and dong the same until i can get from one coast to another and see how many different cars with the original 2 grand i put up for the first car ... im tryin[g to get my own youtube off the ground doing that very thing]
@@turttell2736 hell yeah man old top gear/the current grand tour is hands down my favorite car show i wish ya the best of luck. i plan on doing stuff similar to that in the future, for now im reviewing every car i can get my hands on. i just got my old jeep running and i plan on making a video on that. thanks again for the support man
jeep looks nothing like this now update video on it in 2 weeks
