Mazda 3 Trunk Leak Source
Thinking I may (or may not) have found the source of the trunk leak in my wife's 2014 Mazda 3. I purchased some silicone sealant that I am going to apply to the weather stripping and see if this makes any change in the amount of water that leaks in.

Water In 2014 Mazda 3 Trunk / Spare Tire Well
Переглядів 26 тис.7 років тому
Decided to check on my spare tire, and found that water had accumulated in the wheel well. This is my wife's car that we bought brand-new in 2014, so we know it has never been in any accidents or abused in any way. Currently working on creating a fix for this issue.
My 2015 sonata had this I pulled these 2 plastic rubber circles and dried it with towels and left it to air out over night
I found mine was leaking due to the sealant on the top of rear window hardening and breaking. Took off boot spoiler and ran a new bead of silicone along the top of the window.
I fixed this by replacing the trunk lid seal
Do you have a part number?
Were you able to find and fix the leak ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I am having the same issues on my 14 since 2018. Smells like mildew for about two days after it rains or a car wash.
Did you ever fix it?
Can somebody please tell me what that black stuff that is lining the sheet metal of the trunk is? The stuff that's laid out horizontally and vertically geometrically. I've been having mold problems at my house lately and there was some moldy laundry in the trunk of my car I just want to confirm that that black stuff that's at the very bottom of the trunk is in fact supposed to be there and not instead some kind of fungus
It's to stop the spare tyre from spinning around in the boot
does anyone have a part number or the official name for those black rubber seals at the bottom of the trunk floor ?
Hi mate I've got a water leak problem on my Mazda 3 Mk2 2012. The water sits on the inside of the boot seal and gets a little where the boot shuts down and also gets in the wheel well. Did this happen with yours?
Just went through this with my Mazda mx5 . I had to seal up three spots.
I have a 2015 Mazda 3 Touring and wasn't aware of the leak till a passenger informed me the entire back seat was wet. Not just wet... Soaked. I thought maybe I had left the window cracked. Put towels down. A couple weeks later, still soaked. Opened the trunk, the spare tire reservoir is full of water. How is it it transferring into the back seat?!
Shouldn't there be a recall if so many cars are affected?
Same thing happened with mine.
I just purchased a second hand Mazda axela/3 and it has the same problem.
me too. very annoyed .will get it to Mazda for a new seal and also to check the light cluster seals.
trash car mazda my car 2008 also have a swimming pool
Thank you for the video I just ran into a spare tire area filled with water like 3 days ago and was about to tear out interior to find source. I will definitely start there. Also have a 2014 Japanese made 3
Hes wrong, its coming in from the left rear tail light seal, remove the tail light. either add a sealer or push the metal at the seal out a bit, re attach and test again with a cup of water over the taillight on the out side. your welcome! Gary
Same problem with my 08 Mazda 3. Seems to be a fault in this particular model.
What did you do to fix it properly?
Same problem on my 2010 Mazda 3 2.5 sedan. My trunk was surprisingly filling up fast. Ran a bead of automotive sealant (not silicone) across that seam under the weather stripping and over those two openings on both sides (which he indicates). Popped the weather stripping back on and haven’t had a problem.
We have the same issue with a 2010. Thanks
Please let me know what to do, experiencing the same situation.
I know the name of the whole kit, but does anyone know the name of just the plate around the wheel, or where to get it? There might be a serial nr. If you would check it for me!
Same problem in my Mazda5 2007
These Mazda's are a real pain in the donkey !!!
may truck full of water and all the way inside the car
Same issue man
To anyone else having this issue take out the side carpet liner on each side there is a pressure relief plastic square with rubber flaps silicone the flaps shut and all the way around fixed my issue they are known to leak :)
Will let you know if this works
@@KevinBradshaw57 did it? 🤔
Those flaps need to open and close to relieve cabin pressure. If you block them your doors won't close properly and your windows will fog up
How did you manage to get the water out?
Drain the black rubber cover, then wipe them with a towel
My 2012 is doing the same thing - after a car wash!!! Fix???
Those black rubber stoppers he showed can be removed. Drain it, and spray that interior out if there are funky smells. Then it comes down to finding the leak. Usually it's the weather stripping: the rubber seal that goes around the rim of the trunk. You can just spray-and-check to see where the leak comes in.
@@joshuaglennwilson really??? 🤔 Can you message me i have a question about it
I had a leak just like this it was not from the weather strip it was from the bumper guide it a white clip just up in that rear panel
Thanks!! Time to dry this bugger up and silicone the fack out of it!
Had this issue on my wife's 2008 Mazda 3, same place and everything. A new trunk seal with a bead of silicone sealant inside and it's been fine. This happened 2+ years ago.
How did you fix this?
I've had the same issue, did you have any success resealing the trunk?
Same issue. Update on if you were able to fix it?
I have a Volvo C30 and we share the same frame with Mazda 3. One place to check is the rear hatch bump stops. In your video where water is getting in as u pull off the weather stripping u can clearly see the black bumpstop come into the frame. Ensure it isnt allowing water to ente rvia the bolt attached to it.
Same problem with my 2012 Mazda 3!!!!! went through car wash and water pooled under the spare tire!
Did you find a solution?
@@jim6751 needed up caulking all of the inside of the trunk where the rubber insert is... and around the screws (where the rear lights are in the trunk). no issues in 3 years.
@@Hubbafer Oh great that you got it sorted
push that black plastic round things on the floor and water will fall out
This comment saved me several minutes of needless mopping
Check tail light seals
Did the sealant solve the problem?
Was your Mazda3 built in the Japanese factory or in the Mexican factory by chance?
brassrox Either way it just seems to be that this is a very common issue with Mazda cars. My car's trunk where spare tire goes getsva lot of water after a good long raining day. Also my rear passenger side floor has mold due to damp carpet.
@@Jonabaldi same issue. Just happened to me. Were you able to fix it?
@@bebeto0213 I didn't fixed the problem 100% but at least I was able to locate the leak and or the reason why water was entering the spare tired area. So I own a 2007 Mazda with a sunroof, my sunroof broke down a few years ago and it doesn't closed all the way. (I had to manually closed it in order to make sure no water goes in) I initially thought the water leak was coming from rear bumber since I got hit by another car (nothing major) but the leak was actually because of the sunroof. It is not getting wet like before, but it definitely that roof needs repair. Not sure if thats your case, but as I said before; this seems to be a very common issue with Mazdas. Best luck to you fixing it.
So why was the rear carpet wet?
Having same issue. How did you fix?
Thanks for posting this - did you ever confirm that the silicone sealant solved the problem? If so, would you be willing to post another video showing where you applied it?
Same problem, did you find out if this was the source??
Check the rear hatch bump stops. On our shared frame (Volvo C30 and Mazda 3) there's been an issue with the bump stops allowing water to leak into the trunk.
@@JohnGarnerIII Hi sorry but what are bump stops?
@@jim6751 usually a cylindrical shaped peice of rubber with a bolt holding it to the body of the car. It keeps the trunk or hatch from making contact with and rattling against the body of the vehicle. Usually one on left and right lower corner area of trunk/ hatch. If u watch the video and as he talks about the weather stripping you'll see a depression in the body just below the weather seal. To the left of that as he pulls weather seal off, for a second you'll see a black circular object with the head of a bolt showing. Thats the bump stop.
I have the same problem too! 2014 mazda 3
It just happened to my 2014 mazda. Were you able to fix the issue?
Any update on a fix? Thanks
The dealer replaced the rubber and that seemed to have fixed my car issue
