Cement Your Paving Gaps – The End of Weeds?
how to stop Weeds ua-cam.com/video/7CmExG0FDyY/v-deo.html In the UK, when undertaking block paving for a rear garden, specific guidelines and regulations must be followed to ensure compliance with building standards and local planning laws. Here are key points related to using cement for covering gaps:
1. **Permeability Requirements**: Regulations often require that new paving is permeable or allows water to drain naturally. This is to prevent flooding and manage water runoff. Using cement to cover gaps may impede this permeability unless designed to allow water drainage.
2. **Planning Permission**: For most cases, if the rear garden paving area is under 5 square meters, you do not need planning permission. For areas larger than this, you may need permission unless the paving is designed to be permeable.
3. **Construction Standards**: The construction should meet general standards for durability and safety. Using cement for gaps is acceptable as long as it ensures a stable and safe surface and does not negatively affect drainage.
4. **Local Regulations**: Always check with your local council as there might be additional requirements or restrictions specific to your area.
To ensure full compliance, it might be useful to consult with a professional paving contractor familiar with local regulations or contact your local planning authority for detailed guidance.

    • @MrMakeStuff

      Pressure wash the slabs but avoid the joint gaps. No matter how carefully you work, pressure washers are designed to remove particles from gaps.

    If tried this method exactly as outlined. It worried me a bit when you said the water is drawn up especially as you had used a membrane. My experience, my mix didn’t harden at all. I sort of thought that might happen. 😢😢

    • @MrMakeStuff
      @MrMakeStuff 19 днів тому

      In the video, you can see that moisture is still being drawn up despite the plastic membrane. This is evident from the change in the mix color. Moisture is present both in the depth and the atmosphere.

    i tried this, I have the sand stone colour slabs, I tested this method over a few slabs, and it litely stained the slabs, took me3 hours to "scrub" the slabs clean, I think this method works best with grey slabs, also maybe I didnt trust the process to "wash off" the slabs with a hose, im not sure, it was felt too risky at the time leaving the powder on the whole slab..

  • @MrMakeStuff
    @MrMakeStuff Місяць тому

    In the UK, regulations for rear garden block paving require proper drainage to prevent flooding. If you're using cement to fill gaps, ensure it doesn't block water flow. For areas over 5 square meters, you might need planning permission unless the paving is permeable. Always check local council guidelines to stay compliant.

    Thanks for the dry mix application to fill garden slab gaps. Your building sand is red and seems rather fine. We have construction sand here in the US and its not so fine and its not red. Can I still use this or must the sand be powdery rather than grainy? Wonder what to ask for at the Big Box store?

    • @MrMakeStuff
      @MrMakeStuff 2 місяці тому

      Builder's sand, also known as plasterer's, bricklayer's, or mason's sand, can vary in color depending on its origin. The color itself isn't crucial. If you request sand for rendering or for use between the layers of a brick wall, you should receive something similar.
