From the 2021 release Angel B/W Train Song. This track seems to have been taken down once the full album was released, even though this track wasn't in the album.

David Letterman Stand-up Set on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson: February 22, 1979

This is a reupload of a video that exists elsewhere, but I raised the volume to make it easier to listen to, share, etc. Also fixed the loop in the original version. A great piece of television history! I believe this was Letterman's second appearance on the show. Check out my other channel with my original content: ua-cam.com/channels/PJ4OP3Q_Sx-EIRSQSjgzxg.html

This is one of My Uncle Mike's all-time favorites, he likes all the crazy questions, and Richard Dawson. he was a huge Match Game fan.
I love Gene Rayburn, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Betty White, Fannie, Patti Deustch, Nipsey Russell, and so many others. But for some reason, I didn't care for Richard Dawson. I guess he just rubs me the wrong way. I do think he was funny, and I agree, he was integral to the show, but he's got an ego that bothers me. EDIT: "I may sound like an egomaniac, but they mainly picked me." You ARE an egomaniac, Richard! Why else would he take the addition of the Star Wheel personally?
In my life, nearing four score years, I've seldom watched television (being a movie buff) , but my mother used to watch Match Game and sometimes I sat and watched it. I consider it the best Game Show ever made. The panel was witty, facile, inspired and able to twist answers to be somewhat double entredes. Gene Rayburn was the perfect inspiration for the panel's twists of language.
Best show ever
Why was Ann Elder not asked to come back after 75?
I've always loved this show
The trouble with the later versions of Match Game, besides not having Gene as the host, is that they let the answers be to explicit. Not that it was necessarily offensive but being able to come out and give wiener as an answer meant that people would go for the easy answer rather than having to be clever.
RICHARD DAWSON WAS THE ELVIS PRESLEY THE KING OF GAME SHOWS,!!!
Brett ruined the show with her rude obnoxious behavior. She was always nasty to the attractive women on the panel.
I'm usually on the fence with Brett. She's okay when not ripping up other panelist's cards or trying to hijack the show. But her comments here about rooting against Richard and silently applauding when he's wrong are beyond mean-spirited.
And they act like Bill Cosby did something wrong. They ALLL did those things
I greatly appreciate all the effort you put into bringing us this video. Match Game is and always will be my favorite game show. ❤
The narrator sounds like Allen Ludden. I appreciate this upload and enjoyed Match Game. The 2019 version on ABC was good too! Baldwin did a good job. It was a perfect sibling to The New Price is Right. Those bells and whistles used on those shows... Subtle reminder to watch other GT shows. Goodson was a genius.
Richard Dawson was "kicked upstairs" to his own show because he did so good. Early MG questions sound "feud-y".
For those concerned about the video quality...This is SD video, recorded onto VHS, and then uploaded to a site that AGAIN reduces the resolution.
Yeah. Marcia always pissed me off. More interested in getting a laugh than helping the contestant win some money. That’s why everybody picked Dawson. He didn’t do that.
1970-71 season was the very first season that ABC topped the AC Nielsens with Marcus Welby MD. They would return on top in 1976-77 with Happy Days, then Laverne & Shirley the next two seasons after.
Being a kid in the 70s was great--come home from school and you had Match Game, Mike Douglas, Odd Couple, etc...then (in Chicago, at least) you had the Honeymooners at 10pm and then Johnny Carson at 10:30--the hour and a half Johnny Carson, with the Mighty Carson Art Players. Plus it was the mid-70s, so lots of crazy fads, smiley face mugs, pet rocks, Nerfoop, etc. Fun all around.
The 70s Match Game was and is still the best! Gene was the greatest. Other hosts sucked!
A lovely song. ♥️
I watched it on and off as a young man, but honestly it was cringy as all get out. Especially Rayburn and Brett Summers.
There's such a special place in my heart for this show. I would watch as a child, with my mother, when home sick from school. Two months ago, my 88 year old dad died and my 86 year old mom came from NJ to live with me in Florida. Now we watch the reruns together on Game Show Network. Circle of life I guess you could say ❤❤❤
Life is an experiment. 😎 RIP Gene.
nice to be reminded what a key change sounds like
Arthur wrote this song in 62, and the studios didn't let him record his own version until 1975. Everyday I have to ooo cry.
Match Game was wonderful and fun all of it the stars Gene Rayburn and of course Dickey Dawson and Johnny Oleson.
Brett came off as a old, nasty crotchity A-HOLE IN THIS SPECIAL.
Thanks for the laughs Gene....rest peacefully ❤
Every year or so, I find myself watching this. So good. Gene should have cherished his time on that show - not have it basically destroy his life. From 1974-1978, this was the greatest game show… ever. Everything runs it’s course. I understand other game shows have lasted longer and, technically, have been more successful. But it proves they had magic in a bottle when they’ve tried a half a dozen of times to reboot this and can’t come close to recreating it. That’s a testament how special it was when it was.
Going through cancer…I have been binge watching match game and it has brought me so many great memories and mental relief. Thank you for posting this documentary, it has brought some joy my day. :)
The best line up was Nipsy Russell, Bret, Charles, Fanny Flagg, Richard Dawson, and Betty White. With that group, you knew it was going to be a fun time.
"Rules? Oh, there were no rules!" 🤣
I loved Match hame then and o love it now. The best game show ever.
It shows a bit of ugliness in Brett that she would be happy when Richard "screwed up" and gave thre wrong answer, because that also meant that the contestant didn't win the money. She doesn't care. As long as Richard was wrong.
GENE RABURN AND MONTY HALL WERE LOVERS...
Whenever I'm sick in bed, all I want to do is watch episodes of The Match Game and Family Feud.
And I believe in miracles Fairy tales don't come true I believe in miracles Miracles they do And I believe Our Lord is a miracle The life of the world For all to see So believe it long enough The truth shall make you free
Always a great song. How many times did Arthur record it? I know of at least four versions.
God Bless You, Mr. Rayburn.
I liked Match Game better without Richard Dawson.
Just a different beat of every day I have cry some 🎶💯🎵👍
I'm 28, and I've always loved game shows. I caught a few episodes on GSN one day, and I instantly fell in love with the jokes and the camaraderie. It was a very comforting and fun watch; none of the personalities felt fake. They don't make stuff like this anymore. Everything else made today feels fake and overly produced in comparison.
It was wonderful. Thank you.
I COULDN’T STAND Brett Sommers🤢🤮. She constantly tried way too hard to be funny and it usually backfired 😂. Furthermore, I have NO IDEA why she’s “famous” in the first place 🤔😳🥺🙁
brett summers was a idiot on the show
dawson was such a prick
Thank you for the upload. Great video.
Ahh... scenes ???
This was appointment watching in my house as a kid. Our family room was orange like the set
As a little boy, I never missed the original Match Game for 2 reasons. One was the theme song, "Swingin Safari" & the other was Gene Rayburn. When I was in grade school, Match Game came back & even better than before. I still had two reasons I watched Match Game. The first was Gene Rayburn, & the next was the hilarious Brett Somers. Thank God we have reruns today!
Love Arthur!
