Mickey Mouse Club Season 1 Gadget Band #2
This Anything Can Happen Day video from the first season featured the Mouseketeers interacting with guest stars Lionel Kaye (1901-1987) and his wife Kathleen. Lionel was a comedian who performed live in vaudeville, on Broadway, in nightclubs, and at fairs. He has no known television or film credits other than this MMC episode, but was well regarded in show biz trade publications and newspaper reviews from the 1930's thru the 1960's. He was the hero of the LA Palomar Ballroom fire in 1939, staying on stage to calmly direct the audience to the exits and urging them not to rush even as flames burned behind him. Here he puts the mice thru two of his standard stage gags, playing a tune with hand bells and the hat snatching game.

The Library Show MMC Season 3

A rare skit from the third season with just the kids who debuted that year, and old pro Karen to steady them. And of course, the missing word from both the Johnny Mercer and Gershwin songs is .....
Hi to You! Mickey Mouse Club Musical Number
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому
This short musical number was from the holiday weeks of Season 1 (1955-56) for the Mickey Mouse Club. The song was originally from a Danish film, which Jimmie Dodd set to English lyrics. It was later adapted for the Season 2 Talent Roundup Day introduction. The clip has been transferred from 65 year old 16 mm film, so please be patient with the technical flaws.

The Tramps - MMC Fun with Music Day skit
Переглядів 2 тис.4 роки тому
A distinctly different skit from the usual Disney fare, this celebration of idleness by the Gershwins is rendered beautifully by the late Karen Pendleton. The second number, by MMC director Sid Miller, is filled with MMC in-jokes.

From the Mickey Mouse Club's second season (1956-57), a Fun with Music Day skit has Darlene doing impressions of Ed Sullivan, Jimmy Durante, Marilyn Monroe, and Red Skelton's character Clem Kadiddlehopper. Be sure to stick around for her singing, well worth the wait.

Lonnie Burr also made an appearance on the game show "Wordplay" as a contestant and stayed on for a couple of days, and upon his defeat, everyone sent him off wearing the Mickey Mouse ears and sang the theme for "The Mickey Mouse Club."

Darlene was sooooooo talented and should have been a big star. Everyone was so wrapped up in Annette. Yes Annette was pretty but she had no personality and couldn’t sing to save herself. Darlene was an all round performer with an amazing voice.

I fell in love with her before I knew what love was at 9 years old in 1956. I loved everything about her even her first and last name. She had a wonderful personality, and beauty. Unlike the cardboard one dimensional Annette. I was born a few years to late. My dream girl next door. Even now at 76.

I fell in love even if I didn't know what it was as an 8 year old even though I didn't know what it was back in 1955. She stood out and shined right from the start. Annette didn't come into her own until 1957 with the promotion from Disney and even then she lacked the natural charisma of Darleen. Annette's charm was superficial and restrained while Darleen was a firecracker with a hot fuse from the beginning. I thought she was beautiful talented and charming and held you're attention when she was present. It is a shame the way things turned out for her b/c she could have soared with the right management and promotion.

Annette was Not Superficial! She was restrained & had to follow specific innocent & shy behaviors her entire career.😢❤ However, I would agree that it is a surprise that Darlene wasn’t a Star as an adult. She seemed very versatile. 😮 She was allowed show a lot more varied talent on the show than Annette as evidenced by these clips😊❤

Annette Funicello got all the attention, but WHO didn’t like Darlene???!!! I think of all the Mouseketeers, that she was the one who got the shaft by not getting more of the spotlight (and PR to boot). Just another sad story from the Mouseketeers!!!
