How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix | Book Review
Thanks for this. I’ve read All Hallows Eve by Chris Golden, currently looking for more of his books got my eye on his new one The House of Last Resort👍🏻
This was pretty good
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
@ I was only halfway through when I wrote that. After finishing the book I gotta say the story was really good. I thought the twist and ending were nice. Is there a second coming?
Will check this out
Thanks, hope you enjoy it!
That’s a superb haul. I’m well jealous. Hope you enjoy them. (ps new sub)😎👍🏻
Thanks for subscribing, and yeah, I definitely had some lucky finds.
One of my all time favorite books is night of the moon bow!!! Great coming of age story. Bro!!!! You will want to climb in the book and kick someone’s ass!! So good. When a book pisses me off means it’s good. Hope you enjoy it?
I completely get what you mean, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading it.
It's frankly astounding how Titan got the rights to Conan and have absolutely hit it out of the park in every way. When you think that Marvel just had the rights and really dithered with it. For a publisher that is way smaller in scale it's just awesome. Someone actually knows what they're doing at Titan.
Couldn't agree more, they also seem really passionate about the IP in a way that I feel Marvel really wasn't. I really hope they keep it going for awhile. I'm also excited to see what they do with the other characters as well.
Did you forget Stephen King's, The Stand? Your suggestions are excellent, especially Swan Song, but The Stand is mandatory.
That's completely fair, it's a great book. I do try to showcase horror authors other than Stephen King though just because he's such a household name.
Dude, you can probably find Carnosaur here on UA-cam if you wanna rewatch it!! It's still a fun & ridiculous movie, and one of my personal faves!! The book's pretty decent for a short creature feature read!!
I'll have to check that out, I always forget to look for movies on here. Yeah, I agree they were fun movies, I'd love to at least be able to see the second one again.
I just found out about this book and at first the premise sounded super interesting, exactly what i would be into, but its sad to see almost everyone sayong that its crap, i am gonna skip it then i guess. Its kinda how i was with midnight circus. Its a story about a misterious magic cirkus that just randomly appears next to towns, is open for a few nights then disappears, but it has the most incredible shows anyone ever gonna see. Plus there are two mages working there who are bound to the circus and are forced into a magic duel/game that takes years by their evil masters. Now this sounds fantastic and thrilling, but i cant imagine how was it even possible to make such a great idea into such a boring book, nothing even happens.
Oh that's a shame about Midnight Circus, thanks for the heads up on that it's actually been on my TBR for a minute. Yeah, I really wanted to like this book, because so many people said good things about it, however I do wonder if a lot of it wasn't them looking at it through nostalgia.
@@jacobpeyton6966 When i checked the ratings of midnight circus half the people said that its the best book ever, the other half said that they dropped it halfway thru with very little inbetween. Dont just take my opinion on it, maybe you would fit into the first half idk. Altho it kinda felt like the writer just started based on a general idea and just wrote whatever came to mind with little to no planing or revision, its more about the vibe rather than a plot.
I love Cabal, Hellbound Heart, Books of Blood, however, The Damnation Game was such a tedious chore of a read for me, I had to dnf it, it kinda bored me a lot. Cool Review!😀
Thanks glad you enjoyed it, this is one of the first Clive Barker books I read and I definitely think I'm probably looking at it with a little too much nostalgia. Because it seems to be everyones least favorite Barker book 😂 .
Yeah, Dollar Tree has some great finds for a dollar - well, $1.25 - LOL.
Yeah, there are ten total. I got 7 out of ten. I'm going to try to search more Dollar Trees for the other three because I don't want to pay 6 bucks a piece for them on the publisher's website or Amazon. The cover art is amazing and I gotta get the whole set!
I definitely understand the drive to get the whole set, I'm hoping this leads to some other books like this getting reissues there was a bunch of Goosebumps pastiches I'd love to see come back into print like Deadtime Stories or Shivers.
Just finished it, my first Short as well, and won't be my last. Summer of Smoke is a comprehensively good, very satisfying read.
That's awesome, do you have another one by him you're looking forward to reading? And I agree he's become one of those authors I instantly pick up now when I see his books.
@@jacobpeyton6966 Already started The Man on the Blue and it's good!
My first Ray Garton book as well.
That's awesome how did you like it? Also, have you read the sequel Bestial?
Liking this audiobook so far thoes bugs are savages
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it.
Got that book. Ain’t read it Royalties probably not, unless you get shares by contract
It's pretty good, have you read any other of John Saul's books?
I watch Paul’s destiny 2 videos and just found out he writes books, thanks for the review, I’m going to read it
Glad you enjoyed it, I'll have to check out his stuff, I didn't realize he made videos too. Hope you enjoy the book.
I bought this book many years ago, and it was AWFUL!!!!!! The writing was flat and awkward, and the stories were just uninteresting. I was extremely disappointed. That for your review!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the review. This collection is definitely not John Jakes best work, I'm going to try some of the full length novels and see if Brak gets any better in the longer works.
Book was boring 😅
Read The Wizard Slayer by Franklin Roberts. You will like it. Thanks for the review. I will check this out.
Thanks, I'll check it out.
I found these books in my school library, they are basically short creepy stories that comes with a glows in dark sticker. The covers are also different and there are other books like "doctor's death" "mirror mirror" "ghostly soldier" etc. edit: forgot to note that there are also no pictures which is fine because the story is interesting
The midnight club season 2 episode 1 the listeners by amesh
The book was great. Just finished it today. I enjoyed the movie as a silly gory flick but by far the book is way better. The drama violence and sex was awesome. 🎉
I thought it much, much better than Dixon's last novel. The siege was overlong and Conan felt like he wasn't bigger than life like Stirling and some past Conan authors did in the 80's & 90's.
This was awesome definitely didn't expect the end great audiobook
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great review 😊
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
They just dropped 5 more titles in ths series at my DT this week.
Oh that's awesome, I'll have to check my local one and see if they dropped more too. Thanks for the heads up.
Pretty weird that you didn’t re-record the video to get the name of the book right. Still it’s better than not making a video about an obscure brilliant writer
Isnt that second one say cheese or die and that second one just chucky?
to be fair, we already know the overall arc of the story. boy leaves cimmeria and goes on crazy adventures and becomes king. so the one off model can work well. it is interesting how they are trying to fill in gaps, although the howard absolutists probably get sick at the thought of the waters of canon being further muddied. as a fan, i would give it a 3.5 out of 5. i could see bon fans being bored. ultimately, for me the goal is to read a captivating story, so i dont care if the sentances so much sound like howard wrote them as i do that the charachters are portrayed in a way that is fitting. the problem i would have as an author is being fresh while still being conan. thats a tricky rope to walk.
I wished for a remake of Carnosaur because the Story took Place in England with the Dinosaurs that werent in the 1993 movie but in the Book were in the New Remake.
I agree, a remake that follows the book and really dives into the over all creature feature vibe would be amazing.
@@jacobpeyton6966 Absolutely I hope in the Remake they follow The Novel's sequence whith Dr Jane Making more Carnivorous Dinosurs besides having two from Roger Corman Movie from 1993 & Put Allosaurs, Mosasur, and the plot with The Pandemic that made people sick which made women turned to incubators & some Aquatic Dinosaurs in the Remake movie
I have one hardcover bonechiller. Might read it someday.
which one?! some of them are pretty good.
Just finished The Haar. Loved the body horror elements as well as the coastal setting. A fun read!
Pretty good review. Amazing book, awesome series. Correia is my absolute favorite author
Thank for this book review!!!
No problem, glad you enjoyed it!
Hey, Jacob Peyton. English actor Sean Bean plays Sharpe in the TV series, not American actor Sean Penn. "Scriptures", when Hakeswill says it, sort of refers to army regulations. I don't want to sound too critical so that is it on the corrections. Bernard Cornwell, the author of the Sharpe books has other character sets worth reading, including the Saxon series ... TV series The Last Kingdom. Another good historical-fiction series (also set in the Napoleonic Wars period, but at sea) is Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series ... movie Master and Commander. If you review that one remember that Captain Jack Aubrey is played by Russell Crow in the movie, not Kurt Russell, who plays Col. Jack O'Neil in Stargate.
I would like to see stories set in Hyborea, but not neccesarily a Conan book. Spin off books, that maybe follow some of the secondary characters like Valeria.
I almost gave up due to how relentlessly bleak the main characters life was and how omnipotent her tormentors were but I am glad I hung in here as the comeuppance in the end were pleasing to the soul.
Agreed, I love a good revenge story and I'm glad that's where the story went
There are 38 books in the series first copies worth some money
Yeah, I wish the copy I'd had were in better condition, it's definitely a series I keep an eye out for now. Reading wise it looks like most, if not all of the series is in Kindle Unlimited now.
This comment say nothing
I just finished this book, really loved it - gave all the spooky vibes and also broke my heart too.
Yo!!! I see that Horrified Board game in the background. Love that game!
It's so good, I really want to try either the American Monsters or Greek Monsters one next. Have you played either of those?
@jacobpeyton6966 Yes, I have. I own them both. If you know how to play the first one, then understanding the next two will be an easy transition. The boards are clean, and defeating the new monsters with new objectives is fun. As for the book Herokiller, I just purchased it based on your review. Seems up my alley.
Heard it's like a Bentley Little book, getting it tomorrow. So I'm expecting good things.
Oh yeah, if you're a Bentley Little fan I think you'll like it. It's got a real The Store with a little bit of The Consultant vibe.
Thanks for the review! I am really digging your reviews for these books! I'm actually happy either way (PG-13 vs NC-17). I don't mind if they are tame or out there. I used to always read Christopher Pike books and RL Stine back in the day. I also loved Lois Duncan's books when I was younger. They emphasized and focused more on the psychological rather than the gore because they were targeted toward teens and I think they skewed more toward teen girls perhaps (before it was a known stat that females love hardcore horror just as much as guys). None of these books were all that multi-layered or made for the Ivy League - just good scary fun. Of course, today is different so I am just seeing what's out there - I don't read YA anymore though once in awhile I don't mind it even if I am much older! hehe The 80s and early 90s had some great horror books and had writers who had a string of hits, in addition to one-offs by new writers. I think the real barometer is whether they stand up to (or are interesting enough for) re-reading.
The second two books feel less like a rewite of history and i honestly think this series gets a bit better the farther you read unlike the empires trilogy that gets worse with each book.
I hadn't even heard of the Empires trilogy until now. If the third book didn't mention Cormyr in the description I'd say they look like straight up historical fiction novels. Also, having a new author for each book is always jarring, Games Workshop does that for a lot of their series. Have you read the Moonshae trilogy by Douglas Niles? That series is one of my all time favorites and maybe a little more of the style I was expecting going into these books.
Did it just kinda stop for anyone else? Or is that supposed to be the ending?
Yeah... the newer edition of this book from valancourt has an intro that spoils a large chunk of the book. DO NOT READ THE INTRO before you read the book. You will be very disappointed if you do.
Oh darn, that's a shame I really love the new cover though compared to the edition I have. I've read several of their Paperbacks from Hell releases and it does seem to happen a lot with their intros. That being said I still love their releases and am looking forward to picking up the Manly Wade Wellman John the Balladeer they just put out.
I think Hadrian grows more in the next two books
I agree he grows a lot in the next book, and in Ashes of Man.
I bought this book solely because of the cover, sounds cool too!
It is a great cover, it's a really fun book I hope you like it.
I read this book in Grade 10 English class for a personal reading project and really liked it and hugely surprised by how different it was as well.
I really wonder if there's novelizations of the films anywhere? I feel the second one especially would be a fun read.
@jacobpeyton6966 I don't know but I wish this book got a good adaptation I wish Corman didn't get it because it had potential to be a far better film series.
@@Saint3188 Completely agree, he added so much stuff that wasn't necessary for what was already a fun, pulpy story. The flu/ world take over plot was very over the top. Especially, since this movie released neck and neck with Jurassic Park. It could of been the campy Tremors esq alternative to Universals blockbuster and to your point a really good series.
@jacobpeyton6966 It would be nice to have an extreme mainstream Dinosaur movie instead of PG 13 level as well. I still recommend the book to people who like Dinosaurs
