Leader Length - Watertime Outfitters Tips & Tricks
For the life of me, I can't understand this cast. It's 90 degrees to the current. A simple single spey would lay the fly 45 degrees downstream and start fishing immediately. This cast rips the fly through the column. Don't understand it.
Have you tried doing a single Spey with a skagit head and heavy sink tip? Also you’d have to single Spey left handed…
Didn't explain myself very well . . . the double spey is a change of direction cast, so it necessarily has to be cast 90 degrees to the current. This creates a belly (unless it's mended repeatedly) on the swing. The belly loads up in the current on the swing and literally RIPS the fly throughout the swing. Hence the need for heavy sink tips and weighted flies. My reflection was why not swing a mid belly floater with a traditional spey fly by single speying it off the left side and downstream of the current. Slower swing, slower fly, deeper swing.

@@jessebourneau6426 Double Spey can also be cast anywhere between upstream of 90 and 45°. Its a downstream wind cast for heavy flies and sink tips. It's safe and it's easy. It's also GREAT for getting flies deep. Big aerial upstream reach mend, lift the rod high, slight tension on the back of the head, lower the rod with the downstream drift, tighten up in the bucket - on the lift and BAM!!!!
I’m afraid you’re in the dark . . . Single Spey off your left shoulder. The mouse is disruptive and only loads the rod to position the line for the forward cast. It doesn’t “load the rod” for the forward cast at all.

We have peacock bass here
great demo on how to stand where you should be fishing...
😎😎
Nice fish
Very nicely done, I like the way your fly leaves the water in a forward direction. Rather than blowing out backwards as so many of them do.
This is more important than most people know. Thanks
I’m always frustrated with steelhead fishing
I met him today at a baseball game and I wanted to ask for a hand shake because I have learned so much from him and ect I felt bad during the game but he shook my hand and just an awesome person, I watch all his spey tutorials and always wanted to but I can't wade in the water at all due to my brain injuries but I can still fish in certain places and unfortunately I can't fly fish due to injuries, but just meeting Mr Crandall made my day ,truly an amazing individual thank u
Appreciate the time and effort you took to do this instructional Video -BUT - I gotta tell you buddy the Audio is just darn awful, its hard to make out a word you`re saying as the only thing that can be heard is the running water, it over powers everything
good point!
Thanks for the tip.

Keep those tips and tricks coming Rob!
Great tip. Definitely something I've been missing in my casting.
Nice video!
Put on your fastest sinking line for where your fishing and change lines as needed.
Good stuff!! 1:04 got me especially excited!!
Do you fish this on a floating tip or a light sink tip?
I like to fish this with a floating line and a tapered leader.
Cool :)
