Thank you so much!!
Ty for sharing ❤
Hey girl I’m late to the party but I’ve been in the OR for 4 months and I absolutely dislike it so much. I dread always having to walk on egg shells with staff and surgeons, being rushed. I’m actively looking for new jobs ❤
I just applied for GI nurse! I’m between LD and this so im excited with my options
I've been a surgical tech for 30+ years and a OR Nurse for 2 years and COMPLETELY understand. This is why I became a Nurse , so I can have different work options. OR is tough, and I find it's getting worse over time. Hospitals are not putting enough resources into the biggest money maker in these facilities, and it creates a toxic and hostile work environment for the patient ( who are unaware of this and the staff as a whole. ) Poor management causes good people to leave, and the one who stay become cynical and give up hope. If a nurse, particularly someone new to the OR is not sure during the count I would always repeat and show what I have to give peace of mind and we can be on the same page. You did the right thing MOVE ON.
Very informative video. Thank you so much!!
Back when I started as a CNA. The nurse that was assigned to my unit made the assignments. So, essentially the nurse is the Supervisor and delegated what she needed of me to complete. There was no back talk, walking away as she/he spoke. There was a report off to us CNA’s. The sassiness did not exist when a nurse delegates. It’s taught to CNA’s what’s to be expected. In todays world just as you mentioned. The tug of war with aides is insane. A LOT of lip service and could care less about getting the things you’ve asked done. When I was a aid we would get written up. I work in LTC and it’s just as crazy.
Great content. You’re so beautiful
Med surg sucks to high hell! Who would be "passionate about it" unless they are totally lying. Good for you for moving on. BTW you look really pretty. : )
Needed to hear this ! What specialty did you end up choosing after the OR?
Hi! I ended up in PACU
Been doing Endoscopy for 9 years now including. pre-op, procedures and recovery as well as IBD infusions(biologics).
The OR has its days. But it's HIGHLY STRESSFUL most times. If you're in a surgery clinic you can be pushing out 40 to 90 patients a day and stay longer than your shift hours. Hospital OR is more stable hours longer and complex cases but the stakes are higher, and you do on call and you circulate and scrub. Im an OR charge nurse for 10 years
5-6 is good for medsurg, I typically have 5 on CV stepdown
I’m watching this video after the fact of watching the one where you said you left the OR. So when the question came up about how to deal with disgruntled surgeons, I was trying to figure out if it was ok to ask them if they had such surgeons there. 😂 Like, why is that a question to me and you’re not dealing with them? It’s called professional conduct, and when you’re asking me such questions, it leads me to believe you permit such behavior. It wasn’t the typical how do deal with conflict when it comes to another coworker. She said DISGRUNTLED. 😂 That’s beyond conflict
I literally watched this months ago when I couldn't decide between OR and endoscopy. I chose OR. Today I called endoscopy because I really regret choosing the OR. I literally had a panic attack today due to the toxicity in the OR. Everyone in endoscopy seemed so happy and I can't wait to transfer! I wish I had not wasted my time with OR. However, I will now be even more eternally grateful. No job is worth your mental health!
Currently my girlfriend word for word. But she hasn’t chosen OR or endoscopy yet

Yeah the OR is a hell hole of toxicity lol I was an OR nurse for 5 years before transferring to endoscopy. I dont miss the operating room at all
I’m an OR nurse going in 2 yrs, trying to change and considering GI. OR Is very stressful, physically demanding and yes very toxic !I have prior experience as medsurge, home health , hospice
I'm getting an interview with endoscopy today! I hope I like it! Less pay though...
How's endoscopy? Any updates?
@@wiljonguarin5866How's endoscopy? Can you tell me more? I am so stressed in the OR. Can you compare both please? Thanks
Great tips!
Stylus. It’s called a stylus.
yup. I so the EXACT same thing pre op. ha. trying to learn more from others and it sounds like its literally the same.
Excellent info!
I’m medsurge tech and u 100 right. Im looking to leave hospital overall .
I just randomly came across an endoscopy job listing and got a call for an interview same day 🤞🏽
How did it go? 😊
@@maricruzibarra798 no dice they went with someone with more experience
How long did you work med surg
WIll you please help offer suggestions to these 2 questions, I recently struggled with these at an interview. 1) What are your weaknesses? 2) Tell me about a conflict with a coworker and how you handled it?
Where did you go? 😢 Lol I need updates
I’m graduating soon and I’m running from med surg nursing like it’s the plague. I know it’s recommended for new grads, but I don’t ever see myself doing that long term.
What are the usual hours for inpatient endo? Im an outpatient pre op pacu rn now but im hoping to move into endo. Although ive only worked outpatient 😊
Inpatient endo can either be 3 12s or 4 10s. You will most likely have to take call as well
@luvnurseb5552 Thank you. I only work part time/prn so hopefully no call for me lol
How old is too old to become a nurse? I'm 52 with a BA degree but not in the health industry.
my hospital is training me as a scrub tech and circular as well ~ i hate scrubbing.
I'm so happy i bumped into your video! Thank you for the honest insight, loved it and found it super useful, I had been contemplating OR for a few months. Thank youuu <3
Excuse me i have a question , it would be great if you help me . Do we need special certification for working in Or? I mean besides RN degree.
Thanks for a true review ❤
I love this video! You address little things that we wouldn't otherwise know about just through an interview. Thanks! I'm weighing the pros and cons in case I want to get into OR nursing.
But why are you passing instruments...im a circulator and never done that...
They wanted all the circulators to be trained on how to be a scrub tech as well so you did 2 wks circulating and 2 wks scrubbing each service line
I saw your video before my GI Nurse position and I got it !! Their job posting said 1 year experience but I’m a new grad and was doing med surge for like 2 months and I couldn’t do it so I applied and got it !
Hi, I decided to move to the Endo department after two weeks of orientation in the OR at the new hospital. The reason why I transfer to Endo exactly the same as what you said..(Shift and employee attitude issues and so on) However, I have 10 years of experience in the OR(even it’s not in the US, back in my country), so I'm worried if I can adapt well in Endo. You know, the OR nurses usually don't do IV. Is there a huge gap between Endo work and OR work? I’d like to hear your experience. Is the endo job less stressful than the OR? And is it possible for Endo to work three days a week for 36 hours? I'll wait for your comments! Thank you.
Hi thank you for this video!! I actually just had a interview today for endoscopy inpatient. It's a whole surgical service so pre/post, same day surgery, PACU and you cross train in all of them. I shadow next week so I'll see how it goes. I applied for part time position so 3 8s on call weekend every 6 weeks and on call nights 5 days every 6 weeks rotation so im not sure to be honest with you. Any advice would be great!! Thanks you !
That call requirement would've been a no for me lol. Outpatient endo has no call requirement so if it doesnt work out, try to find a part time outpatient gig. Good luck!
Thank you I learned a lot from you 🙏🏻💞💞💞
Hi! Starting my journey as an endoscopy nurse tomorrow. Any advice? I worked as a plasma RN for three years and in tele for 6 months. Haven’t had a lot of practice in IV’s so a little scared lol
Hi Ashley! Congrats on the new position. Don't worry too much about it. You will get plenty of experience with them in endo lol. I would just look up common findings so you have an idea of what you're talking about when educating the patients.(i.e Diverticulosis, hiatal hernia, polyps, barretts esophagus etc) Good luck!
I am starting Endoscopy from Monday, how has your experience been, please share with me, I really don't want to look stupid not knowing common GI problems and not having much experience in IVs.
@@rajushahi you wont look stupid! Everyone is new at some point. You mainly need to know what colonoscopies and EGD's are. You should at the very least google what they are. They will teach you IV placement if you don't have that experience. Good luck!
@luvnurseb5552 Thank you sister, your advice means a lot, as I worked in ward for 2 years, I think they have high expectations from me especially cannulation but I didn't come across many cannulations as the outreach, ward doctors and CVAD used to do difficult Cannulation, this is where my insecurity has come from.
Do you have to be a pro at IV's. I'm not that great but have experience in medsurg and rehab.
I wouldn't say a pro but definitely have to be decent at them.
This was a great video and very helpful to prepare for my OR job interview. Appreciate the tips.
Nice presentation dear❤❤
Wow wow girl it feels like you’re from my Exact floor because everything you said I am currently experiencing and I’m currently applying for other jobs. This job rn is mentally draining and not healthy..my year is up 😭
Can you double mask when there’s smoke?
This is extremely helpful- thanks for sharing! Im a new grad and I absolutely loathe beside I've always wanted to go into the OR , even before school!
My only complaint or downfall is going from working 3 twelve hour days a week to 5 eight hour days a week but if you are lucky you can find some GI places that offer 4 ten hour shifts. So you have a day off a week. Right now I’m actually interviewing for a PRN job so even better for flexibility of schedule.
I'm a new grad that just accepted this position in an outpatient center and I'm really excited & a bit nervous. Thank you for making this video. It definitely helps with putting things more into perspective and your video was very thorough & informative. Thank you!! If you have any tips please share! :)
Same girl, same!! I have ICU experience as a NA II and I was offered a position back in ICU, however, I’ve had a couple of rotations in Endo from PACU to the procedure to recovery and I have fell in love with it!!!
Coming here to say I got the OR job as a new grad nurse and your video helped so much!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS! It’s true, they really love the word “advocate” 😅 thanks again girl!!!! ❤
Yayyyy glad i could help.
I am a fresh RN and want to go to OR but am confused, should i get med-surg experience first or just go for OR ?
If you are sure that the OR is where you want to be at, then go directly for it. They are two very different worlds.
R u still in esoscopy ?
yes lol my mom was a nurse at a GI office it was AMAZING, they did uppers, lowers, i want to do OR but it is VERY hard to find info on endoscopy nursing...also i didnt know it was a specialty i thought it was just a section you can work in
