Party Finder clear of the 2nd Trial on Extreme. Cool fight. Not as cool as Valigarmanda imo but at least it's extremely different. The portal tether mechanic took me way too long to get. It was an Achilles Heel for me for a good while.

It's insane how much better it is compared to prior expansions. This is not recency bias, trust me. I am extremely excited to check out the Extremes eventually, and see how the raids end up.

Sorry for the dumb question, but does the positioning buff still there? I can't find anywhere written that dealing damage from flank or rear makes more damage, which was in last patch iirc.

Yeah, there was more in the past. They reduced the positionals from 6 to 2 in Endwalker.

Yeah, the rotation has reverted back to the old one. BootDK is also dead. So it's very straightforward now.
I did a minor mistake in the openers. You will want to double weave the first Perfect Balance you do with Forbidden Chakra. This is to prevent wasting Chakra you gain from potential crits, especially when doing a Double Lunar opener.

I'm leveling Monk for the first time and Six-sided Star confuses the hell out of me. Once you unlock it, why would you ever press Forbidden Chakra again?
Six-Sided Star is a disengage/downtime tool. You aren't meant to press it every time you get Chakra. The length of its GCD is the same as 2 GCDs, so pressing it while you still have uptime is a DPS loss. It consumes Chakra because it acts as a reset. It's especially good when the boss is about to jump and you don't have 5 Chakra yet to spend on Forbidden Chakra since it compiles the damage on top of its own.

I loved playing MNK in EW but I never did savage raids and the like, is there anyway you can help to better understand a rotation for folks looking to still contribute as MNK during raids or content that are totally lost like I am in figuring out exactly what they did to the job in DT? I'm so very confused >_<
At a basic level you follow the new Fury Gauge (the one with the 1-2-3 balls). If you have a ball for that form, you use a GCD that spends it (Boot, True, Snap), if you don't have a ball you use a GCD that replenishes it (DK, Twin, Demo). They removed Disciplined Fist and Demolish DoT so you don't worry about timers anymore. The blitzes work exactly the same as they did in Endwalker. It's just Elixir Field that upgrades to Elixir Burst. You also have Fire and Wind's Reply. Think of Fire's Reply as another blitz. When you use it, it gives you Formless Fist, so you shouldn't use it during Perfect Balance, or when you get Formless Fist from a blitz. Wind's Reply can be used anytime it's up, and sometimes you'll get it in burst or out of it.

@@MasterChibi In 2m burst it's usually - Use 1st PB then Blitz - Use Formless from Blitz on Opo GCD - Use Fire's Reply - Use Formless from Fire's Reply on Opo GCD - Use 2nd PB then Blitz Wind's Reply can be used anywhere in the burst.

Monk probably gonna be the easiest melee to play after this gets removed. Even easier than Viper imo. I don't think simplicity inherently bad but, not replacing the lost depth with something else defo does suck.

Hows monk at 100?
With the BootDK tech it's pretty fun, but that is likely to get patched out in 7.01. When it gets removed it'll not be as fun, but it's still good.
Definitely not a fan of the new fury charges and press the mindless combo highlight. Was unhappy about it with viper and i jump into Monk and immediately hate this job again. Absolutely hate rigidity like this. Stir it's great for newbies, but so far i haven't seen hardly anyone touch this class since DT release. For me, MNK in 6.0 was perfection (when i played as is if the positionals still existed lol), but now it's back in the can again. The other changes are great though, to be fair. I'm my opinion, they should make two versions of a job. An easier, accessible version like they've been doing for new players and seasonals. And a harder version with slightly higher damage output, but increases the difficulty such as adding more positionals, less combo highlight and buffs over charges. That way the players like me that don't suck at the game can enjoy it more, while still allowing lower skill players to still play the job too.

If you mean the BootDK rotation then yeah, I like it a lot. Probably will be patched before Savage so for now I'm having fun with it.
Can't wait to try it out. My main is samurai and ninjas my second choice. Ninja was my main in final Fantasy 11 samurai My second choice.
How to unlock expert dungeons?
Once you complete the main story, additional blue quests will appear in the cities. I forget which ones, but do them all and you will naturally unlock the two expert dungeons.

Monk doesn't feel good (to me) and the whole "new animation" feel actually a little bit behind. One of the worst iteration of monk for me.
Yeah, it's somewhere around the middle for me when I compare it to all previous iterations. Not the worst for me, but not top 3 either.

What’s your opinion on DT monk?
I would like to get it to 100 first but so far, it's OK I guess. It's defo feels worse than EW Monk imo but it's not the worst version of Monk either. Currently there's couple oversights in the rotation that makes it pretty jank, but at least they're easy to fix...whether they fix them in a timely manner remains to be seen lol.

small thing, shouldn't phantom be after armor crush, not before? Armor crush potency hasn't been changed to be greater than 600, so idk whose gonna explain why the balance made their infograph like that
Phantom comes from the clone, which is classified as pet potency, so it's actually less than 600 potency (it's around 558p supposedly). Armour Crush + Bunshin will do more damage, that's why it's used after Trick is applied.
I'll miss the on-the-fly optimal drift rotations. It was so much fun getting into the MONKe mindset. But yeah, accessibility is the name of CBU2 (or 3?)'s game.
NGL, after seeing one of the trial bosses still having a giant ass hitbox...I'm confident that we are being lied to again by the devs that things will be changing. They focused on the "combat" and "encounters" but...I'll give them one last chance. All of these non changes are really annoying. NIN is fine, because it's mostly complete so I didn't expect much tbh...but their incessant war on emergent gameplay for BLM and MNK which were deliberate makes me have a sour taste in my mouth. NIN looks fine...but it's like...the best they could come up with was an oGCD for Ten Chi Jin, further reinforcing the "potency vomit" into 2mins? Uninspired is the best way that I could describe Dawn Trail. It's..."whelming". Appreciate the coverage of these "changes"/upgrades to NIN. It was pretty good and I played it in TOP. Was pretty fine and felt good so it's not like this is bad but it's like...damn dude. Eh, I'm just an old player from Creator but FFXIV has morphed into something that I can't recognize much anymore. Healer is super boring and they've been ignored for eight years straight (seriously look at the logs, it's literally just glare spam for eight years over four expacs). Tanking has become a shell of what it formerly was compared to the Alexander days, so Melee is like the last refuge that I have lol. They made Monk..."different", I'll say, to be polite for now but I'll give it the fair treatment. Dragoon...exists, I guess. I just don't understand why SE has insisted to cater to the lowest common denominator of players being so casual when they are going to mess up rotations and not even know how to play the job in the first place...just make it complex? No matter how "easy" and "accessible" you make something, people will still suck and mess it up and not care, so at least make it fun for people who want depth. I'm just rambling but it's like...I feel like these changes are so tone deaf. I know that JP companies are notorious for pretending to listen to feedback while they bury their heads in the sand but FFXIV was a disaster before it was saved by a miracle. I feel like there's a serious case of deja vu about to hit them and the sycophants that defend SE relentlessly will have the surprised pikachu face when that happens. I took a LONG break from FFXIV right after getting a clear of TOP about a month before Anabeisos (long story). I just...don't feel hype at all lmfao. I guess that I'm just an old bastard that the game no longer wants to cater to: someone that wants a fun engaging job like old PLD with depth and nuance, but everything is now just "vomit potency into 2mins". I miss the way that old buffs worked, and the variety of opti that once existed.
To be fair, the trial boss they showed is a stationery boss. They did show a boss from the Arcadion raid that had a much smaller hitbox compared to what he have currently. As for the job changes...yeah, a lot is very basic. Like you said, they want to change how encounters work, so we just have to wait and see. Changing jobs drastically and changing encounter design at the same time isn't a good idea, so they want to stagger it. Supposedly, 8.0 will be the expansion that really shakes job design up, but who knows, it could be another false promise.

You’re probably one of the few people I’ve heard who has said making jobs more accessible is a good thing. So many others I’ve heard want the individuality to make some jobs only suitable for die hards and out of reach for casual players who may like a job for other reasons
I don't think a job being hard to play necessarily makes it more fun. But yeah, I've played Monk for a looooooong time, and it has been evident over the years that it is still an intimidating job for a lot of people. If the devs want more people to play it, then it needs to change. I understand veterans being opposed to changes that are aimed towards people who don't even play the job as much as they do but, I can only speak for myself. I think for Monk, it basically gained new identity with Blitzes when the EW rework came, so as long as that aspect stays, I'll be fine with it.

I’ve theorycrafted an opener for this that allows single weaving(for those with less powerful hardware like me), makes use of Fire’s Reply’s formless fist, and fits both replies and blitzes under RoF and Brotherhood with a little bit of SkS. No SkS will cause a blitz or Wind’s reply to land just outside of Brotherhood, but inside of the stronger boost of RoF.

I know lots of people are worried/disappointed at losing optimal drift and potential skill expression which is very fair, but all the other changes to monk are great imo. Ilove the follow ups to the riddles, gives a really nice theme to them (and now wind feels less pointless), and the six sided star change is great. Plus finally chakra overflow!

If I could ask a question, the way that I understood Optimal Drift (as it seemed like it was needlessly overcomplicated via the graphic you showed on screen) is that you basically wanted to hit RoF and PB in such a way that you'd simply continue your rotation, but in a way that would grant you the correct sequence of GCDs that you needed in that moment, and then an Opo gcd after each blitz before using the next PB to finish out the other blitz that you didnt use. For example: You need to refresh Demo and Twin going into your burst, so you'd RoF and PB just going into buffs, after your Opo gcd, do twin, demo, and your opo, blitz, opo, then PB, triple opo, blitz, opo, and continue as needed, with BH obviously used before the first blitz to catch both blitzes and a Demo refresh under buffs. That's essentially what OD was, and I wonder, isn't it very similar to what you are going to do in DT, except you don't have a dot to catch under buffs anymore? The way I understood monk was that you'd alternate DK and Boot, which you still do (or will do, when they fix potencies), do two True strikes for every twin, which you still do, and three snap punches for every demo, which you still do. I'm not really understanding how they've destroyed the concept of OD: you still enter your buff windows wanting to do pretty much what you did in EW: RoF and PB after your opo gcd going into 2mins or 1min, getting your blitz, using it, opo, PB, then the opposite blitz, of course now having Riddle of Wind and Fire's nukes to put into the buff windows for when they are available, and thus pushing out some other GCDs when that happens in favor of them. I'm not seeing how this is terribly different from what we already do, except that there's no longer timers attached to what we do, rather, it's charges/balls.
The omission of timers already makes it a lot easier than OD. All you do now is pop PB after an Opo GCD 0 to 4 seconds before ROF is up, do your triple Opo, EB, use Formless on Opo, use Replies (Wind's Reply placement is flexible), do 2nd PB window, RP, use Formless on Opo. This should work on every single 2 minute window. You don't have to worry about pre-emptively knowing whether you need to do a First Snap, Second Snap, or Demolish entry into your burst based on your timers anymore. Now the burst is the same every time, which I suppose is the case for 2 minute bursts for other jobs.
The thing that made OD different from this was that the demo/DF buffs would force you to adjust your burst so they don't fall off during it. Now there's no penalty for having 0 orbs of a given fury during burst so you can freely do lunar into solar every time instead of sometimes needing to do solar first to maintain the timers. One thing I'm curious about is will it be worth it to make sure every raptor/couerl gcd is empowered during burst or not

I wonder if it might be worth ending a Raidbuff window with a SSS that's powered up, even if not to max, let's say like 8 Chakras or something, like you dumped one Forbidden, and then just before raidbuffs end you get like 7 or 8 chakras...might be worth doing. You do get the long ahh recast time, but you essentially get like a Hyosho Ranryu level of dmg from it with considering buffs like Tech, Div (if anyone actually still plays AST lmfao rip) and like Embolden or some shizz.
While it sounds enormous, the potency gained from chakras on SSS doesn't matter as it has the exact same value per chakra as using TFC. So the only thing that actually matters when calculating if SSS is worth using outside of forced downtime is the base potency. If it stays at 780 I'm pretty sure it won't be since it takes 2 GCDs, making it the equivalent of an only 390 potency GCD, which sits just between Twin Snakes and Demolish in Dawntrail, making it one of our weakest GCDs. As for ending a burst phase, I doubt we'll have room for it considering we have the 2 replys that are much stronger + an extra formless fist given by fire's reply (so 3 extra GCDs during burst). SSS most likely will remain a downtime tool.
The way I see it, It's going to feel good when that sss managed to direct crit at the tail end of a buff window right before the boss transitions, which is the only time it'd potentially outdamage 2 TFC's. but I did do all the math and the potencies are always going to be comparable otherwise and crit gambling shouldn't be factored. If they didn't make it that way, there'd be less incentive to even use TFC. So I can't argue with the choices made there.

I've heard others say it might be, but it should also give 50 Ninki if it was a Meisui upgrade. I think Meisui is still there, but this is just another skill entirely.
