This is the UA-cam channel for the Mum Pyrotechnics display team. This is primarily used to share new effects we are working on as well as the tools and machines we use to hand build fireworks from scratch.

This is our new Sculpfun S30 20w laser cutter doing a test cut of Ram Board brand chipboard. it was cutting at full power with air assist turned on and 45 inches per minute cut speed. Exploding wedding cake

A relative of the Mum Pyrotechnics team is a cake decorator. A customer decided they didnt want to pickup their cake so we were happy to help them send it back to nature. The cake burst charge was around 4oz of TPA flash with a remote detonator set off by the decorator herself.
Pumpkin Explosions almost destroy camera. 2020

These pumpkins were in perfect heath but one day they went out in the pumpkin patch without their mask on and contracted C-19. They were both young and had no prior symptoms. In their last minutes they can be heard screaming in pain before they are eventually both overtaken by acute respiratory failure and a massive brain hemorrhage. The autopsy report concluded without a doubt these were Covid...
Testing dragon fuel mix

We came across about 250 gallons of free mixed fuel to use in our dragons breath effects and had to test it before show use. Very potent stuff, we are unsure of exactly what the fuel is. It's a mix of #1 and #2 diesel with some old gas and other additives.

Jeremiah, our newest trial member to the Mum Pyrotechnics team disposing of a failed lampare shell. The shell was made incorrectly and the liquid fuel leaked into the burst, compromising the entire shell. There was no liquid fuel left so it was safe to detonate on the ground. Of course Marley our explosives dog had to go inspect it afterwards to make sure it was all clear for us.

This was an attempt at a jewled ruby style shell. It turned out ok, the rising effects could have split sooner but it looked decent.

Minot ND 2019 4th display

2019 Minot ND fireworks display at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds. The date on the camera was not set so it defaulted to 2018. Fireworks start about 2 minutes into the video. The audio got out of sync towards the end by about a second.
6" firework close up muzzle break

Testing a poorly built 6" ball shell and it broke about 10' outside the gun. The shell was excessively misshapen and our best guess is the pressure from the lift may have caused it to come apart on exiting the gun.

Testing a 6" dragon's breath shot with 8oz of lift under 3.5 gallons of Dragon fuel. The smoke ring carried up for about 5 minutes.

They are 1 inch.
@@MumPyro thanks 👍and the top idler is exactly in the center of the two others ? True?
@@apabit3694 yes, the idlers are adjustable for different size tubes to roll to keep the top one centered.

Hey, i like the idea. Seems like parallel wound tubes come out easy. I think about winding 84mm ID tubes with such a contraption, any tips you can give me? Do i need other material for added strength? Do you keep the tubes at a certain angle after glue is applied and certain temperature?
Is it possible to make 50mm Diameter Paper Tube in this machine

I have parts cutout to make a few more of these for our own use but no plans to make them commercially. Typically no one wants to pay for the labor spent designing and building custom machines like this. The machine also doesn't scale up much beyond the current 18" wide version without a major redesign of the rollers.
How is such shell made?
The leaves on the way up were from a 3" crossette. The outer petal of the shell was 5/8" Buell red stars and the inner pistil was 1" silver pumped stars.

How big was the sound and the shock wave?
Not sure how to rate it accurately. From 150' it was a hell of a thump, I'm sure we set off a few car alarms.

The smell and the noise is his addiction. We have to hold him back from every lit fuse until its safe.

How do you transition from whistle to salute ?
With the push of a button. ;) You can't see it in the video but there is actually a wireless receiver hidden in the grass behind the pumpkin.
May I ask the brand of stepper motor or its nearest equivalent? Also if you could or will do it again, would you use the same motor or make an improvement?
I believe I have a 1800oz NEMA 42 stepper motor on there from automationtechnologiesinc.com. They don't have it listed anymore. Yes if I were to build another one I would use the next step up at 2830oz and probably use a gearbox instead of the current chain drive gear reduction. There still needs to be a chain in the system to reverse one roller and still allow for gap adjustments without getting into complicated gear boxes. Steppers are a great choice in pyro because they are brushless and sealed and have the added benefit that the slower you turn them the stronger they get.

I cant imagine how the smell that area
The formula they use is extremely high in Sulfur content so if you are in the smoke area, you need to have some kind of mouth covering or your lungs will start to burn immediately. Its really thick smoke so even a bandana will help considerably.
