30 Day Compost Content Challenge - Worm Farm - Regenerative Farming a Farming Revolution.
Have a look at my worm farm. Ernie asked me if I would contribute to her facebook page and of course I love a good challenge.
I met Ernie at the #raygenerate2024 conference. This month (May) is compost challenge month on her Facebook group. Someone different will be posting something to do with composting each day. Farming Revolution will be 7th May 2024.

The multi-species side of the paddock looks saturated. What was the inundation like on the monoculture wheat side. Do you think the paddock location played a role? What about next time having multiple strips per treatment located at different locations in the paddock, to account for potential soil variation in the paddock?

Absolutely. Between plant accumulation and cycling and mycorrhizae fungi growth and support we can make P, K, Ca, and other nutrients available. Bare soil, use of synthetic fertilizers, biocides, monocultures make nutrients less available. We need to support our soil microbiology. That’s is done with plants.

I'd want to graze on really good covercrop mix or maybe a pasture crop to see if I kept the gentics I was looking for. A real nice greedy feed. Then go backwards, because the wagyu barbling is suppose to be a gentic trait in itself. It always seems like in these systems that you have to make sure you got it in what you are crossing at least a season. Because what if the problem and why you are seeing it is because that gentic trait wasn't there in the grouping to begin with. Because it's not like the double musle trait. In something like muscular hyperplasia you can see it even if you don't feed them well. I always thought it was odd to do it like this for something like waygu on grass. Because you never know if they are receive the base amount. It's one of those times I'd rather work backwards. Backing them into less feed conversion and using a drone to work it out. Maybe even putting up a camera watching how much each cow is eating for a week then pushing that math forward into genetic selection from there.

Lee bridges the knowledge gap by applying a common sense approach. Sure it would be great for all farmers to be immediately fascinated by the intricacies but that is for the future, perhaps when their child or grandchild assume ownership of the land after a preparatory stewardship. For now *an awareness of the 5 basic principles, perhaps augmented by compost amendments* (which are fairly easy to master and not too risky) should be enough to turn around most land to create the cathedral soils which may then enable as deep a dive as their level of interest demands. Science can inform but not lead, which is frustrating for them, but they do converse at a specific level. The 5+ is difficult enough when social, family, reality pressure is in play.

The carnivore diet offers a powerful message for humanity. Meat from grass fed and finished herbivores contain all the nutrients we need to thrive. E.g. Vitamin C and scurvy: a red herring as carbohydrates and the defensive toxins in plant food create an artificially higher need for that vitamin. Add sweetmeats (liver/kidneys) to boost vitamin intake. To get an interest started there are videos (look for Drs. Paul Mason, Anthony Chaffee, Ken Berry,...) I've been using it for nearly a month and the benefits started in the first week (water retention, weight loss, same same?). This ties in neatly with the goals of Regenerative Agriculture as it guarantees animal impact *and* the possibility of clever marketing by farmers.

Every farmer needs to be primarily an earthworm herder first. _Try selling that idea me hearties!_ But it's completely true. Those critters need to be able to provide additional inches of soil per year especially in Australia where some claim we have already sent metres of top soil downriver; and there is no better method to trap and sequester rain water than regenerated soil which then contributes to both drought resistance and flood control.
