Hello! Have fun. (After coffee/beer/sleep.)
This video reminds me of a certain 1990 b-side by The Fall. Welcome to the states. Hope you have a great con.
😂 tunnocks tea cakes, blahhh theyre disgusting! You both must be so tired!
Way too many "erms!". Really irritating and gets in the way of what you want your listeners to hear. Gave up on the video.
You do understand that I am making it up on the spot and that it is not scripted?
IS THAT BENJAMIN FRANKLIN?????
Contrary to some of the people's belief... No.
The price is right, but this game is just so dull. We call it Boring Fantasy Roleplaying. I can't even dislike it, because it lacks the charisma to engender a response.
I was thinking of running it. Could you elaborate on what you don't like? Maybe it's addressable via some of the additional rules supplements and adventures ?
It's just pre-3e D&D with ascending AC and no THAC0 - just like OSE, but with some of its own preferences. It's got all the basic rules and tools you'd need to run your own settings, which can be as interesting and exciting as you can imagine. This one book doesn't, however, have a setting beyond the hints at a very bare-bones D&D style world suggested by the PC professions, playable non-humans and monsters. Although all of these, for me, seem eminently reskinable and hackable to suit most fantasy tastes; from a gritty, dark ages Grimsby (with no monsters except the things that creep across the foggy wolds, slop in wheezing from the sea, and the terrible cod-headed monstrosities crossing the estuary from Hull); to the psychedelic far-future Gonzo planet with forgotten technologies, where humans are rare because they used to be the most prized food item; or just a group of young idiots from a nowhere village venturing into some caves to kill the thing that's eating their family's sheep. I've not read many of the other (free PDF) adventures and books, but the stuff I've seen looks quite generic - again, good frames to re-upholster yourself (but if the frame is for a sofa and you need a Louis Quatorze armoire, it could be challenging). Basically, I'd call this thing an old school toolbox and I'd suggest you'd probably get out of it what you put in. 'Putting in' can be time-consuming and far too much effort for some though, especially after a hard week at work and ferrying the kids to the after-school clubs! Trouble is, I guess, (and especially because it's on Amazon for all and sundry) it could really use a flavourful primer for beginners - and, nowadays, I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a first for gamers new to the hobby (even though it's a much better ruleset than many of us started with). And it could certainly use advice on creating whole-cloth, or building up your own interesting world from the simple stuff provided. @@user-bm2zb3uh7k I hope your game goes well.
Xena and Dilly, love you and your toast!
Where the heck did you get that? It's impossible to find.
Doing good work again as always. A man who confronts cosmic horror in his own garden has more faith in judicious composting than I ever did. With thanks.
I felt astounded (and pleased) when I opened this completely free book and saw that it was sixty-eight pages long.
Added it to my reading list, thanks!
Looks like a beautiful product!
Ayyyy, that's my art! Still really proud of the cover for that first issue.
I think you are the only youtuber who talked about this Module.
Thursday 23rd May?
Hey. Looks pretty. Cool. Did u realise you say 'uuhhhhm' so much?😅
Yes, and nothing that I can do about it.
Weird but I love this camera angle! Love the art for this game. Sadly if you give a intro to your game, you need to include level appropriate Pre-generated characters so someone can run it. Yes, they are giving the books away by PDF (check those QR codes at the beginning of the book), but I can't read those and build a team of characters, or ask 4-5 of my friends to read it without having a big campaign ready for them.
Interesting book. I've been quite surprised how little this subject has been covered since FATE: Worlds on Fire contained a short treatment for a Backdraft / London's Burning themed game. Considering how much the military recruitment ads emphasise the 'International Rescue' element of the job (rather than becoming Brando in a bloody cave of skulls) most modern military RPGs would benefit a great deal from having some more emphasis on emergency and rescue rules. And as one of the (post-grad age at the time) blokes who tuned back into Blue Peter to watch Anthea make Tracy Island, any excuse to do Thunderbirds is always appreciated!
Nice haul. Looking forward to the reviews. Cheers!
Fantastic spoils, always good to see LotFP getting some coverage. One small nit/suggestion: perhaps avoid colliding with your mic - thanks again!
@@paulbigbee sorry about that. Trying to find the right position for it.
That box art gives out some serious Dead Proof vibes.
It does. Playing it is not as bonkers as Dead Proof though...
At 4:49, the caterwaluling - was that a crow creature of Japaneese legend? :)
I certainly hope not!
Excellent unboxing and report. Thank you Pookie!
Thank you.
Armand stumbled upon this tonight. Thank you for your generous words and review!
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Just got into DCC. Going to Dm it soon and was looking for adventures. This was quite helpful
I have unboxed several and if you check my blog I have reviewed a whole lot more.
Brilliant thkyou for showing the inside
You are welcome and thanks for watching.
Frog Knight does genuinely look marvelous.
I don’t know why Ben Franklin unboxing books popped up in my recommended, but I’m not complaining.
July 🤣 My brain's been perforated too today. Cool book. I wonder if it exists outside of June's giveaway day?!
Yes July! Was up all night.
@@PookieUK Sadly Count Binface didn't win - Boo! 😢 - and Elmo lost to a far less charismatic candidate 😁
I think the level of organization displayed here reveals exactly why America gained its much deserved independence.
Not meant to be exactly organised, plus I am not defending an insurrection in another continent.
Happy Independence Day to you, Pookie! Been to cast my ballot too. Not Count Binface unfortunately, but the best option I could in my area. Thanks for showing us the free RPG day stuff. No chance to get to a FLGS this year until three days after - lol - picked up something for £25, turned out it was wrongly priced, paid £45! 🤦♂️
I’m not a typical person watching book videos but I hope you find success one day.
Thanks and thanks for watching.
Hi
hello and thanks for watching.
Is wargaming just as niche and unheard of as a hobby in Birmingham as it is across the pond?
Much like Dungeons & Dragons and the rest of the roleplaying hobby, wargaming is really divided into Games Workshop and the rest. Dungeons & Dragons and Games Workshop are much more widely known than the rest. It has its adherents, but it appeals to a certain audience as you would expect.
Wonderful vid!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Benjamin Franklin was historically, a very creative dungeon master. What you're seeing is live footage released from the Smithsonian of such occurrences.
Which only makes sense if the Smithsonian was in my back garden...
I will play this in a few days with my crew
I hope it was good.
@@PookieUK not yet :) but I think it will be great :)
❤❤❤❤
Love the magical realism these days 🎉🎉🎉
Just noticed the "Travellers welcome!" on top of the sign... Clever nod!
I really like Modiphius’ careful implementations of their 2D20 system; always a refreshing difference from the dominant market brand’s offer. Really unfortunate that they lost the license. 😔
Please look at the camera, not at yourself, while filming. That way, you will connect more with your audience.
Unfortunately on the the iPad the camera is off-centre so to get everything in, I am not looking directly at the camera.
I've noticed that the audio in several recent videos has been a bit muffled... Is it a setting issue? Is there fluff blocking the mic? Is there a cat who isn't yours blocking things?
Not much that I can do I think until I replace the iPad.
@@PookieUK Maybe a small external USB microphone would help?
@@Corshclaw_RPG looking into it.
We really need a good, rules-light wuxia game. There are several games out there, but even the ones claiming they're simple are burdened with too many fiddly rules, options, etc. I'm beginning to think it simply can't be done and in any case, the market is probably too niche. And FWIW Daniel Kwan is a total poser; a banana in the slang of my Chinese wife.
Tianxia: Blood, Silk, & Jade is very good. rlyehreviews.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-fate-of-wuxia.html
Unfortunate to not have any description or look inside for Arzium - that's the one I was most curious about.
Sorry, this was only an overview.
Seems like each retailer has their own rules for how to handle distribution of these items. I've been to some shops that have allowed visitors to take whatever they'd like while others restrict it to ONE item without purchase, TWO with a purchase.
I aim to try and get everything in order to review. This year I effectively sponsored my local participating games shop. The only way that I could do it.
I actually prefer the book form to the boxed set they did for TOR, but I think they wanted a reason to include the extras like the dice, stance cards etc. in the TOR release.
The book is lovely, but the bits and pieces you get in the Shire Starter Set really do bring it to life.
Bilbo is playable in one or two adventures, I think
Later adventures really, but why would you?
@@PookieUK indeed. My players did not take up the option.
Nice.
Thanks!
I have the Rocketeer game. My wife & I played it and enjoyed it. Not amazing, but fun.
But as an adaptation of The Rocketeer actually a decent game. We do live in a time when good game design and mechanics can be made to fit an intellectual property rather than the other way around.
