Sally Anne Howes - Send in the Clowns from Sondheim's A Little Night Music

From the late 80s, I don't recall what the event was named. I believe this was taken from a video tape of the event. I did speak to Jim briefly at the 2013 POCI Co-vention (with the GTOAA) in Dayton, OH. We were at the Kil-Kare drag strip.
Lyrics Isn't it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last on the ground, you in mid air. Send in the clowns. Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve? One who keeps tearing around, one who can't move. Where are the clowns? Send in the clowns. Just when I stopped opening doors, finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours, making my entrance again with my usual flair. Sure of my lines, no one is there. Don't you love farce? My fault I fear. I thought that you'd want what I want, sorry my dear! But where are the clowns? Quick send in the clowns! Don't bother! They're here. Desirée, I'm sorry... I never should have come. To flirt with rescue when one has no intention of being saved. Do try to forgive me. Isn't it rich? Isn't it queer? Losing my timing this late in my career. But where are the clowns? There ought to be clowns. Well... maybe next year.
Another song that brings me to tears.
Perfect musical expression through that beautiful voice. Sally Ann Howes.
Beautiful.
TRULY, SCRUMPTIOUS. RIP
RIP Sally Ann Howes. Thanks for the memories

R.I.P. Sally Anne Howes
We lost him and then we lost her. RIP
The BEST version I have ever heard. Love her! Such a talent. I of course loved her in Chitty ..... but here she shows us her true talent!
RIP beautiful Sally Ann ❤️❤️
Perfect! Stunning!
The perfect looking woman.. David Reid.
RIP at 91
What a great singer-not many have phrasing and sound that perfect. Emotional, beautiful, but under control, completely intentional, utterly professional.
To flirt with resque when one has no intention of being saved...
Such a magnificent voice and talent.
Marveleus but too much sung.Sondheim wanted more an interpretation of the words than of the music. As Glynis Johns wasnt a singer he used few notes in the song.
Couldn’t you have stopped at “marvelous”? Anyone who has had any voice training would appreciate what Miss Howes has done here. The musical theater has a long history of casting non-singing actor/personalities in starring roles. What a joy to hear this song sung by a brilliant songstress who knows what she is doing.
That wouldn't mean that a singer couldn't do those phrases as well, and many real singers did. I'm sure Sondheim enjoyed at least some of those. In fact you can see him coaching this song for completely melodic performers, elsewhere on UA-cam.
Glynis sounded more like a quacking duck. The gorgeous vocal lushness of this production is wonderful. Regina Resnick's version of Liasons is the ultimate.
@@michaelbradley7595 What a mean thing to say about Glynis. Glynis has the Tony for her version.
@@Garsons-oq4lh So. This is the best version anyway. It was a great song. Sally just does it infinitely better. Regina Resnick's version of Liasons is sublime in this production. As with the Oscars, awards do not mean much. I love Glynis, she is just not a great singer.
My father took me to see Sally Ann Howes in The Sound of Music at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion sometime in the early 1970s. I had a wonderful time with my Dad and the show was marvelous.
